The BBC pretty much ruined it for me, but putting so much emphasis on colour. They sent over a black British man to interview dozens of black Americans, and the camera man was constantly focusing on black people. Here was me thinking that a good president would enhance the lives of all colours and creeds, and that Obama is half white through his mother.

I agree far too much emphasis has been put on his colour.
Yes it is a great achievement which should be recognised, especially when you consider that even in my lifetime there was racial segregation in the US.
Something that always perplexed me was the likes of Peter Hain were quick to call for sanctions against South Africa because of their apartheid policy, yet in parts of America (especially some Southern states) the discrimination was no different – yet I do not recall any calls for boycotts or sanctions against the US.
In defence of the BBC I think you will find the bulk of the pictures yesterday afternoon came from the ABC feed .
January 21, 2009 at 14:50 #205522I didnt watch any of it. I certainly expected the BBC to be race obsessed and that would have been too much to bear.
Hasnt it crossed their mind that their constant emphasis on this angle would probably greatly embarrass Obama himself?
January 21, 2009 at 16:00 #205531I just saw (on television) the new American president and the First Lady at the Inaugural Ball doing the first dance in front of the attendees.
I was shocked because they were doing modern non-touching dancing and Barack himself was ‘dad dancing’.
Oh for the days of Ronald Reagan sweeping Nancy around the room with the foxtrot and waltz. I believe that as well as being born within the USA you need to be able to do at least one traditional ballroom dance to stand for President.
I understand that they do have Strictly Ballroom on one of the television networks.
What has the world come to?

we have Michelle LaVaughn and what a snappy dresser, I love some of her outfits, and I think she has a great figure and can be quite stunning. Walks a bit bow legged and I didn’t like her shoes.
I think we shall be hearing a lot from her and possibly a little too much and in areas she is not qualified to speak. We shall see.
January 22, 2009 at 01:24 #205652Tell you one thing though, The Yanks know how to put on a show for the incoming President even if most of it was boring.
Cant imagine 2 or 3 million people lining the streets if David Cameron was to become PM over here.
It was long and drawn out, emotional, challenging, thought provoking and inspirational but most of the time it was also tedious.
At least when we elect a new Government it is all done a little bit quicker.

It’s not often something can be described as emotional, challenging, thought provoking and inspirational, yet be labelled tedious at the same time. I thought it made for very pleasurable viewing – despite the best efforts of the frankly clueless BBC – and hopefully saw the dawn of a new political era.
All we need to do now is get rid of Brown, have the French rid themselves of the greasy Sarkozy and force the EU to stop Berlusconi making laws to ensure his own freedom, and things will be looking up.
January 22, 2009 at 17:50 #205768In the news over the last 2 days I’ve seen Cubans who think he’ll sort their problems out, Afghans who want him to find them jobs, a woman in a Kashmiri village expecting him to sort out the border dispute, a room full of Indonesian kids who made a poster ¨Dont Let Us Down President Obama¨, etc, etc…….
I hope the bloke gets by without sleep.
January 22, 2009 at 19:12 #205800This is the problem isnt it?
It hasnt sunk into some people that he is president of the……. USA
I think he would be well advised to tell them the realities of life…
" Cuba? WHO? Fck off. Its US of A first second third… you commie cnt"
January 22, 2009 at 19:17 #205801Hes a new president. End of. Tough job ahead
The quicker we forget about his colour and the sooner he nukes Iran the better
My sentiments exactly.
And Obama has a white mother he’s no more black than he is white but hey its that race obsession again.

He will be the same as all the rest whether he’s black, white or green and yellow hoops.
I live in the UK I’m sick of hearing about Obama and about America. America to me is just another country.

When the USA sneezes the world catches a cold…unfortunately
January 22, 2009 at 23:35 #205870Given the choice I would rather be the 51st state of the US than part of Europe.
Although absolutely ideally I would like to be fully independent of both.
April 19, 2009 at 16:53 #10997Yes.. its all down hill from now on, Obama is letting off the people who did the torturing of innocent civilians, setting a terrible historical president and making a mockery of the War Crimes tribunal process.
SS guards acted in good faith and they got shot.
What will be his next half wit decision?
April 19, 2009 at 17:01 #222600As much as I hate to say it…the USA is the last place on Earth a "War Crimes" tribunal should converge.
Obama claimed he would bring these people to justice to win votes and now washes his hands of them when he is in power.

September 12, 2009 at 18:21 #12632Don’t worry, it is nothing to get all wee-weed up about!
The stimulus is not working. We are more in debt than ever.
The President wishes to speak to school children and vastly changes his words from the original politicizing message to one of general "Do well at school."
His approval rating is getting lower.
He appoints Czars who to say the least have some undesirable political stances, Van Jones, for example (and there’s more of those under the surface)
He casts anyone who disagrees with him as mis-informed, liars, and his hench men refer to them as evil-mongers.
His town hall meetings are a mockery where those who disagree often have their collars felt.
His health care plan has more holes than St. Andrews.
So you guys still think he is great?

September 12, 2009 at 21:06 #248523Obama is Bush with a better smile. If you go to youtube and watch ‘the obmama deception’, you will soon realise that Obama is just another president being controlled by the banks who strive towards power whilst an uncaring society miss the point. Obama is no more than a deceptive puppet. Indeed, America have only had one true president in the last 4 decades and his name was John Kennedy..need i say more ?

I agree with that entirely.
