Having frequently beaten Hydrangea, is there any chance that Rhododendron is as good as Dahlia?

June 2, 2017 at 10:45 #1302965Putting aside Dahlia’s record as a 4 & 5 yr old, I would suggest that you have a look at the races she won as a 3 yr old https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dahlia_(horse) and then ask yourself the same question.
June 2, 2017 at 10:58 #1302967Rhododendron will wilt and could well suffer rapid-onset alopecia approaching the two-pole on free-draining chalk
It’s unlikely that Hydrangea will encounter it today but if given a chance on bottomless going she would fulfill her undoubted potential and blossom profusely
Dahlia was campaigned superbly: kept in a dark shed covered with straw during the winter months, then given a careful airing in the Parisienne Spring followed by blooming marvellous shows during our short summers and finally showing-up the otherwise lovely North American Fall with spectacular late-flowering
A rose by any other name…

Are you casting nasturtiums on my judgement?

June 2, 2017 at 13:09 #1302989Or will they say of her Oaks performance that she only beat trees?
