It takes an exceptional horse to win the bumper the way he did – especially as a 4yo. Are they likely to stick to 2m4 or will they drop him back in trip now?
Anyone know when Last Instalment is likely to be out? His win in the p2p bumper was freakishly good.
October 24, 2010 at 21:07 #324360Not sure about Spanish Treasure IC, nor Last Instalment for that matter
However, and this horse touches on Last Instalment and Philip Rothwell, Rathlin is meant to be a very high class horse too.
He got stuck in the mud behind Last Instalment at Fairyhouse, but Jamie Codd was extremely impressed with his point win at Tinaheely.
And your right about Double Double too. If I remember correctly he only came into shot up the straight in the last half furlong!

Glad to say I backed him at 40s in the bumper and have been looking forward to his hurdling debut ever since.
The plan is get three Nov Hdl races in before Christmas and go from there.
I think anything is possible with him and it’s hard to say on the distance side of things at the moment.
CT has said he wouldn’t worry about dropping him back to 2m as he has the pace for it. Yet his dam ran in the Grand National.October 25, 2010 at 17:11 #324510Who was his dam? Can’t think of many mares that ran in the GN, apart from Dubacilla and the Whalley Cohen mare whose name escapes me [oh, and Ebony Jane, but not sure if she ever ran in at Aintree].

Wicked Crack – fell at the first in 2002 for Eddie Hales and Conor O’Dwyer.
October 29, 2010 at 19:48 #325318Ebony Jane did run in the National (think she was third circa 1994)
Evangelica
Auntie Dot
Liberthine
Musica Bella
They’re other mares who’ve run in the race recently (last 20 years) off hand.

How about FIDDLEDEDEE, impressive Irish point and bumper winner now with JohnJo?
I’ve mentioned her elsewhere CS but she should be unbeaten – she was very very unlucky to tip up in the Mares Final at Ballynoe, only problem is the trainer
Is there anything Jonjo can’t ruin?
Having already failed miserably to extract the best from Fiddlededee, Rock Noir, Sway and rules debutant Valley View, O’Neill is now running second-season hurdler Get Me Out Of Here under top weight in a competitive Ascot handicap.
Is he mad?
He’s already cited the horse’s lack of size as a reason for not sending him chasing, so why stick 11-12 on his back when his contemporaries won’t be going near races like this? Why risk bottoming the horse by asking him to carry that sort of weight on such a demanding course?
It’s about time JP cut him loose.

You can’t be serious AJ? Sway is a complete rag of a horse who won’t do at ap when she puts her mind to it. Who the hell backed her at Cheltenham for the mares must have been bonkers and Jonjo never made her a short priced fav the other day either. He would have been delighted with her getting a place and only 3 finished If he can get her to win it will be nothing short of a miracle.
JP and Jonjo go back further than time itself and that is never going to happen.
These remarks about Jonjo make my blood boil he traines hundres of horses and very few never win a race and a couple go wrong and it’s get him out of there.
He just won the Grand Naional and fullfilled a dream of a lifetime for JP McManus and gave the man the biggest thrill of his life since Dawn Run saved his bacon with Jonjo on board.
Jonjo never ruined a horse in his life he absolutely dotes on his horses and treats them better than most people would treat their kids. You could eat your dinner if the floor in his yard and that was the same when he trained at Skelton.
Horses go wrong and punters should learn to live with it not blame trainers who have been in the game all their lives and won just about everything there is to win.
As far as Get Me Out Of Here goes where else can you run a class horse like him? Jonjo has no illusions about what he is. He’s hardly going to send him hunting up the likes of Binocular as he knows that would be a waste of time. He can’t jump fences so he can’t go there so where exactly should he send him.
He has 1 horse to beat today and will be straight enough to do himself justice then all being well will go for the Greatwood.
I’d say that is the best plan anyone could have come up with.

Here here! If only you could pick winners as well as you write!
November 1, 2010 at 22:50 #325830Anyone got a view on Oilily? Won a nice grade 3 at Tipp on Arc day. She has met and beaten some decent opposition, granted that she has not faced anything from the top yards as yet. She won very handsomely from the consistent Ballyadam Brook on her latest outing, and could be capable of more improvement being lightly raced.

Neither Oneeightofamile or Takeyourcapoff did the form much good last weekend.
I’ll reserve judgement on her until she runs up the north in a few weeks (presumably she goes for the mares novice hurdle at Down Royal?). That race usually throws up a decent mare. There’s a good programme for these mares over here – an old favourite of mine, Grangeclare Lark, cleaned up in them races a few years back. Oilily has a similar enough profile to her. I wouldn’t be a huge fan of the jockey though.
IC,
Oilily among the entries for Down Royal on Friday, as is John Kiely’s mare Araucaria, should be a decent race.
On a separate note, Dessie Hughes introduced a very decent winner of hurdles at Naas on Saturday in Si C’etait Vrai, had some smart bumper form. The RP suggest that he may go over fences, personally I’d enter it in the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse.

November 2, 2010 at 00:40 #325840That mares race on Friday could be quite decent alright. Model County Lass gave Auracaria’s form a nice boost at Mallow on Friday.
I was impressed with Dessie’s horse too. I’m not overly surprised that chasing could be on the agenda. Gigginstown have a plethora of potentially very decent novice hurdlers this season – First Lieutenant, Last Instalment, Rathlin, Ferris Bueller, Zagman, Far Away So Close (probably a few more you could add to that). O’Leary doesn’t appear to have as strong a hand in the novice chase division though, especially after Mr Cracker bombed last time out.
November 7, 2010 at 12:34 #326813Staying Article goes hurdling tomorrow at Limerick.
Interesting maiden upcoming at Navan. Ballyburke and Our Girl Sally both could be anything.

Very progressive mare that Our Girl Sally. Could be a hell of a race between herself and Macville if they meet in a mares novice in the near future. Ballyburke blew up after turning in and looked like he needed the run. Pity Jetson didn’t stand up but I doubt he’d have beaten the mare anyway.
November 7, 2010 at 13:26 #326831Have to agree on Our Girl Salley IC, sluiced up there. Could be a force to be reckoned with in mars novice hurdles this season.
November 8, 2010 at 18:53 #327039She looked extremely good, I was surprised how well she won, I think she’ll come on again from that run. I liked Hanlon’s winner in the 2m Grade2 Hidden Cyclone, looks decent also.

November 9, 2010 at 16:51 #327153Shot From The Hip (now in JP’s silks) and Staying Article go over the sticks for the first time at Naas tomorrow for EJOG.
November 9, 2010 at 20:08 #327187Visually both Our Girl Sally and Hidden Cyclone were impressive, HC probaby in the stronger race. Both worth keeping an eye on
