Hi; haven’t been able to post for a while but did have internet access on my ipad and was able to read stuff and listen to racing radio [it’s back; woohoo !!]. Wanted to thank you for your Ascot selections; followed them along with tips from ‘theotherplace’ that were also on fire so had a brilliant Ascot all round [£3 up with my 3 pence ew bets although have lost most of it since with mugg punting]. Devastated about Liam; still can’t get my head round it and still well up whenever I think about him. We really felt that he was ‘our boy’ and checked the racecards most days to see if he had a ride. Will be away from my computer for a while again but will still be able to read stuff so I’ll be trying to claw back my £3. Well done on the big race on Saturday; I got some placed horses but had far too many bets to make a profit.The winner was too short a price for me. There’s a girl on racing radio who’s tipping is second to none. Her names Kate and someone told me her second name but I haven’t got it to hand. They have just a skeleton crew but Steven is on most days and we’ve known him since he was a nipper so it’s good to hear him; and Ken Pitterson is back doing his paddock picks. So it brings a sense of normality to these uncertain times. We were going to get the holiday cottage up north ready for summer rental but there are 25 pages of covid safety things we’d have to adhere to so we’ve transferred all bookings to next year and will just use it for the family whenever we’re allowed to. We didn’t feel we could make it safe for people without stripping it of everything that gave it character. Stay safe x

Yeah, another good day Saturday, don’t often get The Northumberland Plate right, but went like clockwork.
Can’t wait to get back to normal, bo change for me, I’ve worked right through it, but just waiting to get the all clear to head back down the Ayrshire Coast with the mutt, I’m starting to really miss it.

A quiet enough Saturday for me, and I’d probably sit it out if Dolphin Vista wasn’t running.
I was going to say that he doesn’t really belong on this thread anymore, as it should be actual fancies, rather than sentimental selections, but I give him a squeak here. On his best form, off of 95, he wins this. Was his abysmal run at Ascot, merely to slice his mark? If so, it worked a treat. If it was his true running, then he’ll get lapped here. All comes down to the price really. If it’s a plan, then 50’s for a horse who’s ran really well here before, will like the ground, has a fair draw, and has seen his mark plummet, will do for me. Every chance we’ll see a repeat of Ascot as well though.
This time last year, I fancied Toronto to run well in The Classics. That didn’t work out, and instead of The Derby, he’s running in a Handicap at Naas. I think he’s overpriced here.
In The Derby, I really couldn’t see much of interest, but as I follow the Jessica Harrington yard, I couldn’t leave Gold Maze alone. He wasn’t that bad last week, and in a field that’s bereft of star quality, I took the big price.

Very pleased to have had a quiet day today, and I really should have just sat it out.
Thankfully three smaller bets, and only Toronto was an actual fancy. That didn’t work out too well, and he’s quickly off the radar. I’ve never claimed to be very successful with 2yo’s, and as he caught my eye last year, that just confirms it. I can’t see me betting him again.
Gold Maze a fun bet, and Dolphin Vista a sentimental bet, and at least I nearly called Dolphin Vista right, as he wasn’t far off getting lapped.
As much I found Saturdays Racing uninspiring, the same can’t be said for Sunday, what a days Racing, just superb looking cards.
The problem that brings though is one I’ve mentioned regularly on here. The more fancies, the messier it gets, and if it goes wrong, you can have a bad day. That’s certainly what’s in store tomorrow, and there’s been a fair bit of head scratching, and few scratched from the list.
First two out were old pals Snazzy Jazzy and A Momentofmadness. Both have won me a fair few quid, and Snazzy did me proud at the 33’s a few weeks back. He’s unpredictable though, and though he’s got everything in his favour tomorrow, he’s just far too short for me, and I’ll hopefully cheer him on anyway without a bet.
Madness has been a stalwart for me for a few years now. I’m not mad keen on him tomorrow though, and I’ll leave him for when the odds appeal a bit more, later in the season. It won’t stop me cheering him on though.
If they two have paid their way, then so has another old stalwart, Euchen Glen. He’s in The Old Newton Cup, but I’m obviously hoping Ebor for him. I’m not sure he can do both, for all he’s best horse in this race. Problem then, not to mention that I also like The Trader. Ground is a worry for him, but he’s untested on it, rather than having a proven disliking for it, so hard to pass over. I was close to sitting it out, but can’t desert old Euchen, and I’d kick myself if The Trader won.
I’ve a few others from “Big Races”, and I’ll tag them on at the end.
1710 Sandown, I thought Blue Skyline was really worth the risk on Handicap Debut. Thought he shaped better than overall results last year, and happy to give him a try.
I said last week that I’d be happy to stick with Smash Williams, and back up to 7f, I’ve got to side with him in The Ballycorus at Fairyhouse. Split stakes with Surrounding though, who’s also a very fair price. She’s a smashing horse, who’ll always interest me at a price.
Potential carnage, been a long time since I had as many selections on one day, so goes without saying I’ll be clawing back Stakes where I can. Either in running or before the off….

Had a long look at my list today, and as much as it’s a fabulous days racing, I just couldn’t justify so many.
If I could get out of A’Ali, I would, but he’s drifting rapidly.
Chatez has hit 40’s, and I’ll only bet him in running now, if challenging, and I’ve laid back Blue Skyline, with a view to betting him later. Really depends how the earlier ones go.
Really got away with that today, and really can’t complain.
A’Ali got me off to a flyer at a nice 12’s, and Surrounding turned into my biggest bet of the day, and I comfortably got it all back. She’s a cracker, and I’ll continue to bet her. She’s been good to me.
Less so Smash Williams, that’s three times I’ve bet him now, and he just looks hard to win with. Very definitely one for chunky double figures only.
Delighted with the runs from The Trader and Euchen Glen, though was a bit peed off at not getting my money back. Not half as I was with Subjectivist. I actually put a lay in to half my winnings, and I just assumed he’d hit it. Was about ten minutes later before I realised.
Really happy with Euchen Glen today, and finally bet him for Ebor.
Best result of the day though was leaving out the quarter of Snazzy Jazzy, Blue Skyline, A Momentofmadness, and Chatez, finally listening to my own advice, and it worked out perfectly.
Got away with it then, and happy to come out of a day like that ahead, for all I’ll be back at work tomorrow.

I nearly made it to Thursday without another bet, but drawn in at Newbury.
Old pal Tralee Hills is back out. I’ve had some good days from him, and four decent paydays from the five times I’ve bet him. I want to keep that going, but one of those ones that potentially could make me look foolish. I’m very careful when I bet him, but happy to take a swing today.
The trainer switch is a concern, but perhaps some fresh ideas could’ve improved his tendency to start slowly (he was miles back last time). Certainly a slow starter the time he won for me at huge odds two years back, but there’ll always be the worry about backing one that could potentially be a Furlong behind before they’re even went a Furlong.
He’s good enough on a going day though, and 25’s is decent if that’s the case. Ciaran Fallon a decent booking, and I’ll take a chance.
Next up is Isomer. Only bet him once, but that was when he was a Non Runner in The Cambridge on the day, so I suppose he hasn’t cost me anything yet. They at least thought him good enough for a race like that. He was a Notebook horse for me last year, but he never justified my interest. I’ll give him a rare bet today though, as his mark has fair slipped, and they’re certainly persevering.
I’ll bet the pair of them at bigger prices again if they drift.

Just love that Tralee Hills. Waited till last minute to top up, as he wasn’t fancied and took the 40’s. I was surprised not to get my lay in on him, he didn’t go as low as I thought he would, far from it, but he was a fairly big bet for me for a a Wednesday night, and chuffed to bits.
I also got money back comfortably from Isomer, who I topped up at crazy odds, so good night all round, which might be a good thing, as next few days could be messy.
Great days racing, but the big problem here is the same as Sunday. Probably too many selections, so have to be careful, but Tralee Hills is paying for the next few days, so pressure off, but still got to be careful.
In The Dante, I’m already with Cormorant, though form hardly franked by Russian Emperor the other day.
Elsewhere on the card, I think it’s safe to say looking at the market, that things might be tough for Mister Carpenter, but he caught the eye last year, before blowing up at Chelmsford, and I’ll probably have an interest at the price.
Biggest fancy of the day is in the last, Kylie Rules. I said I couple of weeks back that I’d bet her again, and the 33’s looked way too big.
Great card at Newmarket too.
Poyle Vinnie looks a mad price in the 1245. I thought he shaped well the other week, and this trip should suit better. His runs at Goodwood last year give him a squeak.
Dancin Inthestreet was a proper eyecatcher at Newmarket, and though perms only at current price, if I had any joy earlier in the day, I’d go with her in The Bet365 Handicap.
In The Sir Henry Cecil Stakes, I can’t really desert Ropey Guest after Ascot. Probably just the EW on him, but if he happened to drift I’d top up. Fairly consistent type, and should run his race.
Finally in the 1610, I think that Communique could be the forgotten horse, and I’m hoping he keeps drifting.

I was about to congratulate you on your selections yesterday. Congratulations! Today, I intended to follow your lines and thought I had done so, until I found that I had somehow missed out Mr Carpenter! What a fantastic selection. I passed over the selections to Mrs Sungold who is far more careful than me and she bets in 25 pences…so she was literally quids in when she found the starting price was 100-1. Surely that must be one of your best ever? Anyway many thanks and I hope your betting bank is overflowing. Tom
