Well the day started off so well, nice profit in running from Jon Ess, and it ended with stakes back for Foxy Jacks.

Unfortunately The Irish National did the damage, and it was a sore race for me.

That’ll definitely be it till Aintree.

Aintree is always feast or famine, and for every good day, I’ve had some really tough ones.

    Manifesto
Got to respect the market leaders here, and I’ll be pretty cautious with him stake wise, but I have to say loyal to Umbrigado here. He really does have to step it up a notch, but not out of the question, and I just think he could be very good. I like him long term for The BetVictor Gold Cup, but I think that could be scuppered if he wins here.

    Betway Bowl
I’ve went with Tiger Roll here Antepost, and my hands are always tied with him. Best horse in the race by a mile, but he’s eleven now, and common sense says he could be vulnerable, but as much as I like Waiting Paitiently, he’s short enough here. Aso is the one who looks ridiculously overpriced at 50’s, and considering that EW. All about Tiger though, and I hope he does it.

    Aintree Hurdle
I missed the 7’s for Jason The Militant, but happy enough with 11-2 for a horse who I like for The Stayers next year. I’ve opted for Ballyandy EW over Buveur D’Air, but no surprise if the former champ prevails. Ballyandy should run his race here, and I think he’s way overpriced.

    Hunters
Killaro Boy was a notebook horse I thought would’ve landed a big one a few years back, but didn’t really happen for him. Ran well in The Grand Sefton a couple of years back, and very promising return last time, where he was very unlucky.

    Red Rum
Went with Joke Dancer and Ain’t My Fault Antepost. Small enough bets, and was just going to leave them at that, but topping up anyway, particularly on Joke Dancer.

    Manifesto – Umbrigado
    Bowl – Tiger Roll 16’s
Aintree Hurdle – Jason The Militant 11-2
Aintree Hurdle – Ballyandy EW 4pls
    Hunters – Killaro Boy 25’s/18’s EW 5pls
Red Rum – Joke Dancer EW 6pls
Red Rum – Ain’t My Fault EW 6pls

    Quick summary of Day One……

Moving quickly on, and we have Day Two

    1345
He’ll probably come up short, but I have to go with Dans Le Vent here. Seven places is crucial. Monte Cristo looks a big player.

    Mildmay
Disappointed that Remastered doesn’t go, but we’ll hopefully see him at Ayr. Empire Steel is the outsider, but he should run with credit here.

    Marsh Chase
Easy decision here, going with old friends Dashel Drasher and Master Tommytucker.

    Topham
Adding Outlander (Non Runner) and Relentless Dreamer to original selections of Livelovelaugh and Morning Vicar

    1640
Rachel Blackmore gets the leg up on Cape Gentleman, and hoping for a big run. Non Runner

    1715
Blakeney Point with Jordan Gainford claiming is too big a price here.

Dans Le Vent 16’s EW 7pls
    Empire Steel 22’s
    Dashel Drasher 15-2
    Master Tommytucker 8’s
    Livelovelaugh 14’s
    Morning Vicar 20’s
    Relentless Dreamer
    Blakeney Point 22’s EW 6pls

Relentless Dreamer was so close to getting the 6th spot there

All good Ista, took the seven places with Hills, and I got the 100’s. Good race for me for a change, The Topham

    Thanks mate.

Much better today, Livelovelaugh a real highlight, and Relentless Dreamer the bonus.

Delighted with Dans Le Vent in the first, and got my usual entertainment from Master Tommytucker

Already did my National preview, so not want to ramble too much here, but for what its worth……

All about Any Second Now for me, and would be a big winner. Would mean a lot to me if he won, after rabbiting on about him. The Long Mile and Sub Lieutenant bets are obviously for even bigger amounts at those odds, but surely unlikely. Wouldn’t surprise me if The Long Mile is a Non Runner on this ground. Haven’t fully bet Tout Est Permis yet, but started at 125’s. Obviously be doing him Max EW

Burbank makes a lot of appeal in the opener, and one eye on Champagne Platinum and Polish as backup, but not sure.

Dreal Deal is worth a go in the next, smashing horse.

Not a horse I’ve really taken to, but I like Vinndication in The Liverpool Hurdle, while Johnbb has the right profile in the 1615

Adding Decor Irlandais as per race thread.

    Burbank EW 7pls
    Dreal Deal 6’s
    Decor Irlandais 40’s
    Vinndication 20’s
    Johnbb 14’s
    Any Second Now 32’s
    Sub Lieutenant 330’s
    Talkischeap (pays for race)
    The Long Mile 530’s
    Tout Est Permis 125’s

No really wanting to go over yesterday’s, still reeling from The Long Mile. It was Invitation Only all over again.

Burbank – Really disappointed, thought he’s be better.

Vinndication (what was he doing, Decor Irlandais (EW), and Johnbb, money back for all of them.

National – Got my stake back for Any Second Now, but still a crushing disappointment. Would’ve won obviously, but it’s swings and roundabouts. Tiger Roll swerved a faller at Bechers and The Chair three years ago, another couple of inches, and it’s a different story for him too. Got to take it on the chin, and the winner is a good one.

Love this Cheltenham Card every year, but always really tough, and generally a losing one for me.

I’ll try and get a winner before it though, with Trees Valley running in the next at Fairyhouse.

Very progressive last summer, and though she’ll need this, she’ll like conditions, and is a big price.

Trees Valley 18’s EW 5 Places

For all she finished way down the field, happy enough with Trees Valley for this summer. Wasn’t asked a serious question, and reckon I should get a couple of wins out of her.

As mentioned, decent card Cheltenham tomorrow, and plucked four out. I’ll probably bet No Comment and Storm Rising EW as well.

    1440 Proschema 6’s
    1550 No Comment 22’s
    1625 The Mighty Don 10’s
    1700 Storm Rising 14’s

Really happy with that performance from Proschema today, very impressed, and few options next year off the back of that.

No Comment was bitterly disappointing again, but made profit on the other pair comfortably.

I don’t think The Mighty Don would’ve won, but different story with Storm Rising, and think he’d have got caught.

Well done with Livelovelaugh Bob, now that’s what you call a long term plan. You couldn’t have had a moments worry.

It was more or less a disaster of an Aintree for me, as I obviously couldn’t get on really, and the winner I did have, was at odds way short of SP. It was the wife who put it on, so I couldn’t even complain

Cheers mate, yeah, two long years, but what a buzz in the end.

Sadly not too many others to go with him over the three days.

What did you think of Cloth Cap?
