I thought I’d have one bet today to get into the spirit of the week and stupidly backed The Graduate in the 19.40 without looking to see who trained first reserve. Declared NR this afternoon due to “change in going” despite the fact that he has won on soft before. Hmph. More fool me. Good luck with yours, hope they all beat Sweet Wotsitsname.
July 31, 2017 at 19:15 #1312096Having fun backing the steamers at Galway, but unfortunately ignored the winner of the second race.Very late money for Dinky Inty!
July 31, 2017 at 19:41 #1312101Last minute money for Powersbomb but my computer was too slow. Good luck with it VtC.
July 31, 2017 at 19:45 #1312102…Late money for Whiskey Sour….missed that one, too….
August 1, 2017 at 09:23 #1312168NG4August
Wish I had been on the other “money” horse moe. I think Whiskey Sour will be a horse who could we worth keeping in mind for the big NH Festivals later in the season, and he’s on my radar for Cheltenham.
August 1, 2017 at 09:31 #1312170Not much doing last night at all, though Le Richebourg did it easily again, and although he’s not the slickest over his hurdles, that can be worked on, and as he was the horse who interested me the most last night, his performance made up for some of the other runs.
Very happy with Riverrainshine, and got a few quid back in running from him. He looks worthy of another chance, and he was certainly trying.
Swamp Fox ran well, and just bumped into one, and I couldn’t rule him out, if he appears later in the week.
August 1, 2017 at 10:32 #1312179First day dealing with both meetings, and it’s actually not too confusing, as as much as the racing is great, there’s not as many races screaming “bet” to me.
At Goodwood, nothing too appealing in the first, though considering Bravery, as a back to lay, while I managed to nab 4’s for Seahenge a couple of days ago, and that looked value, he looks a nice horse. In the Lennox Stakes Home Of The Brave looks a massive price at 15-2.
I had a few quid on Prince of Arran each for The Goodwood Cup at 40’s. I’d love him to make the frame. If he can’t do it, I’d love to see Big Orange win again, and after deciding not to bet Sheikzhayed Road so far, I still haven’t ruled him out.
The most interesting betting heat of the day is definitely the 1645, and there’s no fewer than 6 of them who really catch the eye, and in the end I might just have to side with my old pal A Momentofmadness, while a massive nod has to be given to El Astronaute, he’s just too big a price.
The most interesting horse of the night for me at Galway is Aspen Colorado. He is clearly a long term plan for connections, and he quite simply hasn’t been asked a question yet. He’s a big price, and although this might not be the plan, he’s one to watch closely. It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest to see him taking in The National Hunt Chase, or The Irish National, later in the season.
Maysonette really caught the eye last time, while in the 1940, Hibou, with conditions in his favour, might just surprise against loftier opposition than last time. In the 2010 I’m torn between Usa, Zippy, and Essenaitch.
In the last, Beau Satchel has been getting a lot of attention the last few days, and I could see him and Midnitemudcrabs taking a real hand here.
Smashing days racing, and like last night, I won’t be spending much, but looking forward to it nonetheless. No idea how I’m going to play them, probably a few singles, but mainly perms.
August 1, 2017 at 23:02 #1312343What a day, the each way returns on Home Of The Brave, A Momentofmadness, USA, and especially Hibou, were very welcome, but that 33’s El Astronaute was fab. Easy to say afterwards, but I did top up on Hibou at the 18’s, and only found a WPM/Ricci hoptot too good.
I was also very happy with a couple of the losers. I also topped up a couple of quid on Midnitemudcrabs, and he ran a screamer, though that couple of quid extra was Moe’s fault (kidding Moe). I was also very happy with Bravery. I’m on holiday just now, so I was down Ayr Beach with the mutt, watching the race on the phone, when the signal cut out. It was maybe a couple of furlongs out, and I thought Bravery was shaping really well, and once I caught the result, I was surprised he hadn’t made the frame. I’ll definitely consider him again this year.
Finally, the least said about Prince of Arran, the better.
On to tomorrow, and it’s a surprisingly quiet day.
I can’t believe my old pal Lancaster Bomber is available at 28’s, and I have to have a go each way at that price, but apart from that I might just sit it out. I might considering perming selections from Nathans Comp, but it will depend on Network Coverage wherever I am tomorrow……….I hate having a bet, and not being able to watch it.
As for Galway, it will probably be The Plate only for me. Already on Sandymount Duke, and Alelchi Inois, but it is a nightmare of a race for me, with so many old favourites, and shortlist horses running………I reckon though it will be win savers on A Toi Phil, and Slowmotion.
Away from the two festival, there are 2 horses jumping out at me at Perth. Yes Tom surely has one last hurrah in him, and I had to have a go at the 16’s, especially with Richard Johnson on board, and at 5’s with Johnson on board again, the 5’s looks big for Mountain King.
August 2, 2017 at 10:42 #1312405El Astonaute was another horse that Ken Pitterson said looked particularly good in his paddock picks so that left me a bit sore, too, given that I was following his paddockside comments. Not going to make that mistake today, although it does mean I have to spend the whole afternoon glued to the computer. I’ve also been backing Will Kennedys rides but chose to ignore them yesterday. Plus missing another Galway steamer as I was at my daughters feeding the bloomin’ guinea pigs! And not backing Jacobite Uprising at 16/1 [why???]. You can’t ignore Lancaster Bomber, what with Dunkirk being the film of the moment! The racing is just TOO GOOD at the moment; from being out of the loop for a while I’m thoroughly enjoying it.
August 2, 2017 at 12:40 #1312440Oh, El Astronaute is a new favourite Moe
Yeah, the racing is fantastic this week, loving every minute of it, well every minute I can catch on my phone lol. Yup, The Bomber has been so good to me, and I can’t possibly leave him alone at that price.August 2, 2017 at 14:48 #1312480Londinium was the only horse to have won on heavy so I was surprised to see it’s price drifting . Apart from that, betting has gone a bit pear shaped today. Did you hear of the woman who won 1/4 million yesterday? Alas, it wasn’t me…
August 2, 2017 at 16:12 #1312509Half day after a couple of long days at work so gorging on replays and getting itchy betting thumbs. Will keep it to 50p E/Ws, starting withLogical Song in the next at Galway.
August 2, 2017 at 16:31 #1312511Thorpe 10/3 50p win Perth
August 2, 2017 at 16:40 #13125121645 Goodwood Lady Perignon 50p e/w 25s
August 2, 2017 at 16:51 #13125131700 Galway Decision Time £1 win 5-1
August 2, 2017 at 17:16 #1312519A net loss of £1.50 over the past hour and a jolly good laugh. I’ll stop now and just enjoy the Plate. Decision Time looks a good mare though, she was off the pace and wide all the way over this sharp track in what looked like not a very fast run race but made good ground at the end. I liked her last couple of runs and I’ll bet her again.
August 2, 2017 at 17:18 #1312520Does anyone remember when no one knew about Gordon Elliott raiders at Perth; oh for a time machine!!
