Yep……mentioned before xmas think that might be the plan for Foxtail Hill.

Was half expecting the duck egg, currently 145,couple off for yesterday would put him on 143,a lovely mark for the grand annual. He reminds me of Next Sensation, similar run style, that horse won the GA off….143…
He went off pretty short last year at the fez,get the feeling he might be one of those horses that prosper early/late season, not just the ground, but weather wise,no surprise were he to leave his winter form well behind once spring beckons, remains very much on the radar.

Going back to the January thing, lots written re nichols and others vaccinating their horses at the start of new year,I would imagine Skelton would follow his mentors regime, will be watching both stables closely.
Plenty now will be minding their horses mark, sometimes moving away to the midweek lesser class appeals this time year, second guessing trainer plans difficult game.

Following certain horses is a difficult one,not often discussed,I think its really important to remain open when analysing all races,if a certain horse has been profitable, will that affect rating it ?
I know there are plenty you follow, thats not a criticism, the problem being when they do oblige minus an investment, annoying would be the polite phrase.

Plenty to look forward to,be having a look at some entries later, and catching up on some replays from the last few days,as you know, can,t trust any race reports, time consuming but neccessary.

Think I might have one for the Coral Cup,lips sealed until initial entry stage, nothing worse than seeing your plot end up in a different race etc….

    Take it easy B-)

Yeah, I reckon he’s miles better than that mark, and I have said before that this winter ground ain’t for him, so I’m not giving up hope. I’ll be with him in The Grand Annual for sure, and that run at Cheltenham in October over 2 Miles, is probably the best race to judge him on.

Interesting view on Skelton that. The Nicholls vaccination schedule is well documented, but nice angle there, and despite being obvious, had never thought of it. Good chance it might apply to Harry Fry as well.

Yup, have more than my fair share of “Cliff” horses, but happy I’m managing them a lot better than I used to. Classic example would be Flaxen Flare. Had him down as a plot horse at start of season, but on all evidence so far, that’s just not the case. Crucially though, only lost a few pounds on him. I’ve been very careful, whereas last season, Captain Von Trappe was the exact opposite. That was a blunder, and I lost a good few quid on him. The annoying one yesterday was the one I actually bet, Frodon. Wakanda I can console myself with, as I had a long hard look at him, and I knew he was due, but I just liked that run from Valtat last time, and it was just one those things. Frodon however, I’ve been mentioning a few times, and running there to get his mark down, isn’t really Nicholls MO, and he should have been more than a saver. Love this horse, and that’s two seasons in a row I’ve had him in The Gold Cup “book” at 1000’s, but not to be. He won’t be 1000’s next season.

Oh yeah, softly softly at the moment, and although a rather dismal run just now, I haven’t squandered the winnings from Jun to Dec. Lesson learnt from last Jan, and very happy with that aspect anyway. Feb will be quiet as well, with more focus on NRNB bets. Love The Coral Cup, and Supasundae I/R last season was a rare win. Already on Tigris River, and I suppose Ex Patriot would be interesting too, but the really dark one I have in mind is……….Cause of Causes. Tiger Roll looks Cross Country bound, and with his hurdles mark, I just wonder, could they try to win four different races at The Festival. That would be some feat.

Looking over figures from last year, I’ve staked 58% less this season, that’s an incredible reduction, very happy with it. Slashed my Tote bets, and bar The Gold Cup, all my “books” have been for seriously less stakes, and some races I haven’t bothered with at all. I’m also more inclined to lay off more than ever, and slowly getting that side of things right more often as well. Love my handicap bets for The Festival, but drastically, and I mean drastically, cut down on that. Mentioned it before, but it’s important enough to remind yourself…….an 8-1 winner on the day, is better than an Ante-Post 33-1 loser. My Ante-Post betting in general has been majorly reduced.

Looking forward to Leapordstown next week, but by all accounts, ground is currently desperate, which means little betting for me, though Prince of Scars might get some attention lol

Off to Musselburgh on The Sunday for Trials Day, and might save my pennies for there.

    Evening

Just checked the BHA website….Foxtail been dropped to 143,workable.He looked a little muleish last weekend, thought I would look at his pedigree, thought he may have entered the trf/ pricewise comp
His sire was dr massini,OR 112 on the flat mainly with aiden o,brien, best form top of the ground. The interesting end to his career….he refused to race 2 of his last 3 runs….has a little of that rubbed off on his offspring?

Longshot maybe…..wonder if Nige has stuck any headgear on him at home?

Tiger Roll….not involved on his x country run, apart from the armchair ride, something else not quite right, both know he,s not the best of jumpers, but he hit loads of those obstacles.
Took me a while…..elliot ran him without the blinkers…..is he just sloppy at his fences,he whinged some of those in the 4 miler, think they knew he needs the blinkers.

Stuck one up on the x country thread who interests me, should he get entered.

    Feb soon :yahoo:

143 is very workable, and I’d be happy with that. Fair shout on the old temperament, and you could be on to something, though before Doncaster, I hadn’t seen any hint of it. Can’t get away from that October run though at Cheltenham, and 143 would make him a huge fancy for The Grand Annual.

Yeah, Tiger Roll would never be the best jumper, and it’s never going to be pretty, but he’s a machine when they want him to be, and a nice set of blinkers should do the trick…………….fences permitting lol

Yup, nearly there, and I will not be sad to see the end of this month.

    @Darren83
Apologies Darren, I just seen your post. Shame that Spades Are Trump misses it, as I’d have to agree, he would have ticked plenty of boxes for me, and certainly a horse to keep an eye on. Still a cracking looking race, and as much as I hate putting a “Midnight” up on this thread on the day of a race, I’m even more reluctant Ante-Post, but had to have a bit of the 16’s on Midnight Stroll. I really like Minds Eye & Ben Dundee as well, but I’ll stick with Midnight for now.

Works been hellish this week, so no time do threads on them, but they’re big enough races to deserve one, so I’ll try to squeeze them in. In the big handicap, I’ve a shortlist of six at the moment…….

    Vieux Morvan
    Oscar Knight
    General Principle
    Jett
    Couer Joyeux
    Drumacoo

….and I’ve had a small win bet on Vieux Morvan at the 10’s, but the 33’s on General Principle, and the 20’s for the JP Pair, has me tempted. I might manage another before final decs.

Morning……That stayers book should cover the whole week B-)

Great days racing in prospect across the water, plenty putting their reputations on the line.

Handicap hurdle interesting,Master Of Irony travels over from the quinn yard, see how the market goes later, his form ties in with poppy kay from hobbs yard, who we both seem to have on the radar.MOI still has entry in betfair, which I quietly thought he might have a sqeak,if the handbrake is off, reckon he might go close later today.
Stable also have Project BB for betfair,he might be of interest nearer race day,but from the dreaded green/gold,who are a law unto themselves.
Tiger Roll….me not being clear,he had been wearing them……they left them off last run.

Keep an eye on yours today…….GL

Oh yeah, very happy with that Stayers book, and wish it was always as straightforward as that.

My Champion Chase book would have looked just as good, but for that last fence blunder by Ordinary World there. Jumping is obviously the name of the game, and I’d have to see it again, but I had Ordinary World the winner there. I’d rather be betting Ordinary World each way for The Champion Chase, than Min Win.

Wee change of luck though so far for me today, as Jetz, Forth Bridge, and Ordinary World were all nearly bet. the three of them would have been hard to take with cash on them.

Enjoying the excellent racing today, with not too much cash down. I always do desperately at Musselburgh, so with me heading there tomorrow, I have to be very careful this weekend. Minimum stake each way perms today for me.

Still no money down for me in The Betfair, but the two you mentioned Poppy Kay & Project Bluebook are way up the tof my list, but I’m getting keener on Kayf Grace by the day, and on the verge of betting her, and I’m going to bet her for The Mares as well, not that I have much interest in that race.

Best of luck with todays pick mate.

Thanks Grass, I did bet him, but not that big a bet unfortunately, as just dusting the betting boots off after January. Not off to Musselburgh until today sadly, as if I had been there for the Saturday I might have had more on. Can’t complain though, as he was very fortunate winner.

    T-Shirt weather up here lol.

A few winners would be nice, few strokes of luck yesterday, and the January Blues were certainly blown away. I’ll no jinx myself though, as last time I went to a meeting and stuck my selections up here, they all got stuffed FFS. I do like Beyind The Clouds though, and at 11’s, he’ll be my main bet on course

Loads of good action at Leapordstown today as well, and I’ll be making a point of watching that, and I’ll have a pound or two there, well it is February lol.

My main hope in the big one is Edwulf at 125’s, you never know, and I’ve taken General Principle 20’s EW too

    William Fry
Taglietelle, Delta Work, Phil’s Magic, Oscar Knight

    Leopardstown Chase
    General Principle, Dromnea, Jett, Kylecrue
    20p Exactas, 10p Trifectas

    Irish Gold Cup
    Edwulf, Alpha Des Obeaux
    50p Reverse Exacta

    -£274.07

Good luck with that VtC; just about to see how Adam gets on on Lady Buttons in Ireland; they’re certainly persevering with running her over there, although there is a steamer in the race called Just Janice…]

Thank you. I backed Edwulf at 100/1 !!! So that’s the 100/1 winner that I’ve been searching for ever since I backed Mon Mome at 33/1 for the National and then didn’t top up my bet. Can’t boast about it cause I have loads of 3 pence ew way bets each day if I’m at home, but I do back horses where I think that there must be a reason why connections are persevering with them…and I’m still fed up about not backing Josephs horse in the Melbourne Cup. This has been my raison d’etre for so long; I always said I’d implode if it happened. Only heard the race on the radio; reckon if I’d watched it I would have had a heart attack; then, when I looked at my ‘open bets’ it wasn’t there, so I thought the bet hadn’t gone on; but it had. Won all of £5…..[sorry for aftertiming….] oh, and Lady Buttons got placed; I do want her and Adam to win a big one one day….

Get in Moe, very well done, and no need to apologise for the aftertiming, you know you’re allowed to on this thread lol. Standing watching the big screen at Musselburgh today, and as Edwulf gets up to win, deadly silence………….except for me, desperately trying to keep it together, and only just managing it. Had a “couple” of pounds on him, and cherry on top, a big winner for my Gold Cup Book, and could be an important runner for me now. Absolutely chuffed to bits with that today.

Decent day all in at the track, with Beyond The Clouds doing the business,
