There has been a big fuss about all the best races being run on a Saturday but for me far more of an issue is the fact that at the three premier meetings we have 16 handicap races out of 22. Easy for punters isn’t it?
July 9, 2011 at 09:30 #363985Entirely agree – the Ascot card with seven handicaps out of eight races and only one contest over further than 1M is a dire offering.
Though perhaps appropriate that one of the handicaps is named the ‘Ruddy Nursery’. I might use a stronger term myself.

You’ll love Shergar Cup day, then AP?

Life isn’t easy, you goto Cambodia and ask how many of them are worried that Ladbrokes are going 152% in a 22 runner handicap.

July 9, 2011 at 11:05 #364004Oh Dear …Mr Wilson , you seem to have forsaken your cornflakes …again shame, but you must keep your reputation at all costs IMO
As for those Handicaps …Saturdays , match made in heaven RFC and the bookies , are IN TANDEM trying to get you to lose your money
Dont be a mug , ignore it , dont even watch it , eventually the programme book will be restored to a proper semblance, keep betting on it and it will get worse , that is for certain
Boycott this horrible mess , the only power and the most terrifying power we punters have is to abstain , and boy will they react if we enforce that

July 9, 2011 at 11:22 #364009What actually do the BHA do? They seem to have no control or interest when and where race meetings take place or what races they consist of. Is there much point in continuing with the BHA in it’s present form?
July 9, 2011 at 15:49 #364069I think it’s a very good day for serious punters. You can do lots of each way lucky 15s with the odds in your favour because there are several 16-20 runner handicaps and you can do the trifecta rollover on the third race at York. And you can do the Betfair special offer multiple with a hedge back on the banker horse. What more could you want?
July 13, 2011 at 18:25 #364583Ostensibly yes, Kasparov, the day offered a plethora of options for Lucky 15ers and the like.
Light and shade is useful as well, though, and I’m not sure what harm a couple more maidens, a couple more classified contests and even a claimer would have done by way of relief.

I don’t think we need fret about the situation in Cambodia for much longer, Corm. Why, a peace envoy is on her way out there as we speak;

March 2, 2012 at 19:08 #26574Add in two sellers and a claimer and yet again it’s another quality Saturday. Special bookmakers commendation to Newmarket for staging only one non-handicap.
March 2, 2012 at 19:08 #211386 Handicaps At Newbury – Total Garbage
Are they allowing bookmakers in free as well. May as well knock the Course down and build some slot machines.
March 2, 2012 at 21:13 #394577Im unsure what you truely expect given the time of year?
A very interesting bumper, a fun Veterans chase and several interesting handicaps.

Are you a bookmaker?
What’s the time of year got to do with it?
To answer your question I exepect a degree of balance, three condition races, three handicaps (preferably not including a ‘fun’ veterans chase) and a bumper. That in years gone by would have been the norm. Increasingly it seems race planning just want to encourage people to lose money.
It is very frustrating for people like myself who take betting seriously but work during the week and are then faced with slot machine racing at the weekend.
March 2, 2012 at 21:46 #394581Why don’t you just wait for Cheltenham in a week and a half’s time?
I think the Veteran’s Chase and Greatwood Gold Cup are intriguing races, and you get one of the great’s in Hello Bud – not too bad. All the best horses have been put away, and quite rightly. There’s still money to be had though if you study the form hard enough!

I wouldn’t dream of having a bet at Newbury tomorrow. If you think you can outwit someone who has spent several hours trying to get all the horses to finish in a line on a consistent basis then good luck to you. Most of the time it just isn’t worth the effort.
March 2, 2012 at 22:19 #394589I’ll have a mug lucky 15 no doubt, seeing as it’s a Saturday. Think Ouzbeck and Araldur may have chances. Like I said though, the real stuff happens a week on Tues
