Wish him all the best on Monday too
One thing Reet couldn’t the fact he was under the cosh for a long way be more down to the type of horse he is. He gave me the impression of being a bit backward both times I saw him run……….it could conceivably be he will travel better now he is more mature and don’t forget 2 miles over fences is a far cry from 2 miles over hurdles……time will tell

You probably wouldn’t know this without having today’s RP, but Paul Nicholls has also expressed some doubt about the Arkle being the ideal race for Noland. Has also entered him in the RSA.

January 19, 2008 at 19:22 #136462I spoke to a totally independent body (trainer) on the subject of Noland.
Asked him "what would you do if you trained him"?
Answer: all you can do with a horse who has been off as long as him is keep an open mind.
I am doing just that
January 20, 2008 at 10:53 #136514Declared for Folkestone with three opponents.
January 21, 2008 at 14:21 #136764He’s been cut to 8/1 for the Arkle by most bookies although William Hill & Blue Square are still 14/1.
Only Bet365 quote him for the RSA Ch (20/1)
January 21, 2008 at 15:44 #136785I never saw the race as was travelling today, was noland any good, I see theyve trimmed him to 8s but bookies love false favorites and damage limitation so I always like to see a race or get a general consensus at least.
Hales appears to be acting a bit of a buzz kill, from what hes been saying about taking it easy with noland this season and bringing him out again next season. Fair play, he is the owner and thats his right but a horse can get injured in any race at anytime, especially over jumps, and probably more so chasing, but surely the novice chases this season should be easier to win than the grade 1 races next season and if anything they should bring him on towards next season. I respect that he has lost horses in the past but you cant wrap the rest in cotton wool because of it, nicholls seemed to be genuinely livid in todays racing post as he had not been told anything and had been training him for the arkle, and has obviously put a lot of work into getting him back to fitness.
Of course, my opinion is in no way biased towards seeing him run at cheltenham, and more specifically in the arkle.lol
January 21, 2008 at 16:33 #136791I don’t think many of us can comprehend the dilemma of being a racehorse owner, especially one that thinks so much of their horses – my interpretation is that they just hoped for more than just one run before tackling the Arkle, even one more race could give the amount of experience that could mean the difference between success and failure . Good to see the horse come back safe and sound today, anyway.
January 21, 2008 at 16:48 #136794Apparently Hales wants to swerve Cheltenham because of the Granit Jack fatality. Although Nicholls questions the alternative of Aintree as One Man died there. Maybe Hales is trying to make a public stand to force Cheltenham into re-siting the 2nd last which causes a lot of fallers?
Anyway job done well today. As we saw with Twist Magic it could have all gone wrong today, but he won as he liked and never looked in trouble. Jumping technique impeccable – nothing flashy, economic and effective.
January 21, 2008 at 17:27 #136801I done a little antepost lucky 63 the other week on sublimity for the aig, khyber kim who was 9-1 at the time, money trix at 20s, noland at 16s, the grey berry at 25s, and butlers cabin at 16s, as its stands all bets look to be live contenders (sublimity looking ropey with the current weather though) and those that have run have generally shortened, Id love it if all made it to their races, win lose or draw, but thats the risk of antepost.
PS- keep an eye out for the grey berry this week (entered wed and fri), 340,000 guineas (bought by hobbs agent aiden murphy, i think) at the october sales is a lot of money for a horse with no stud potential and he also recieved some solid money in the triumph market around about the first week of january. He should hit 2 miles perfect and has some decent form on various levels of cut. Interesting runner at least.
If he goes well and noland goes to the arkle, then I dont think I’ll have another bet the whole of chelto, sublimity perhaps.
January 21, 2008 at 17:29 #136802Bulwark, read the RP today. A big row between Hales and Nicholls. Hales will not permit Nicholls to run Noland in the Arkle.
January 21, 2008 at 17:33 #136804Yeah, I seen it, am just hoping that nicholls can talk him round, apparently hales was impressed with noland today, so its still early doors, that may just have been a rash decision.
January 21, 2008 at 17:40 #136806Hales should run Noland at Cheltenham. If you’re going to own jumpers you have to accept that there will be the odd tragedy. We all know the nature of the sport you can’t wrap them in cotton wool. I’ll be not happy if Hales continues with his stance.
Noland did as I expected him to do today. Bound to have been a bit ring rusty he’ll come on from that. Not sure he won’t be better over further.
January 21, 2008 at 17:46 #136811as mentioned on a new topic the racing post story today was twisted round words and prittymuch bullshit nothink is definate or decided weather he will or wont run at chelt… thankfully he ran n jumped amazin today which was brilliant… however hes been of long time with injery so all depends how his legs are 2moz……! ground was heavy today so time will tell… he definately didunt look lacking jump or travel today, so things are finally on th up lol……………
January 21, 2008 at 17:51 #136814Flash, from how I am interpreting what Hales is supposed to have said, I dont think he is saying the Arkle is a bad race as such, or even Cheltenham for that matter.
I think he is trying to give the horse more time to gain experience before pitching him into the Prestbury Cauldron so I would imagine he would run him in the QM next season if all goes well.
After all Noland is only just back from injury and a failry inexperienced animal. Having spent a lot of money on the horses recovery I guess he would rather look after him for a season and go for the QM rather than finish him in an Arkle. Lets face it, you would rather your horse goes down in the history books a QM winner than an Arkle wouldn’t you?

flash flash we dont give a damn if you are happy or not..the only thing that matters to us is the horsewellbeing notthe pyou the public or any1else… .
if nobby has other run then and if he runs like he did today then there should be no reason why he shouldent run in the arkle.!
by the way how many racehorses do you own? and how many have you lost??????????????????January 21, 2008 at 18:28 #136829This is just a gut feeling but watching him over the last few today I’d be surprised if he has the toe for an Arkle. He wasn’t coming away from Pipe’s horse, who was well inferior over hurdles. He may fall between two stools in that the perfect trip might be about 2 1/2…. if they ran him in the Ryanair he wouldn’t have to jump the dreaded second last on the Old course….
