Going to the Grand National for the first time this year. Just wondering what other races are on that day and if there will be any big name horses there. Heard there was a couple of grade ones

As always more than few that win or run well at Cheltenham will be turned out at Aintree, so big names will be plentiful. Word of warning though very few Cheltenham winners win at Aintree as the course is very different and many of them who were spot on for Cheltenham are over the top by the time they get there.
Last Year Big Buck’s, Alberta’s Run and Peddlar’s Cross did do the double but a couple of years back I think Tidal Bay was the only horse to pull it off.
Others like Sanctuaire, Menorah, Somersby, Osana, Zaynar, Gizao had all won or run well at the festival but were beaten at Aintree.
Just go take 24 on the Machine about Don’t Push It and cover your win bet on the place market like I’ve done and you won’t go wrong
Only needs to stand up to be involved in the finish again.February 8, 2011 at 18:58 #339530Fist, i have to agree with you on Don’t Push It, it should be involved in the finish and i’ve been putting a little each week for a while now whilst exactlty as you put it, covering my bet on the place market (at 6.2 on bf, this is a steal)
anyway, best of luckFebruary 9, 2011 at 09:48 #339575Notre Pere has moved to Barry Potts’ yard up the north. I think a lot of Conway’s horses have made the same move from Dreaper’s recently.

Must be expanding his milk cart business 1 from 11 in 2 years he’s definitely lost his way which is a shame as he was a very promising horse.
From an outsider looking in Jim Dreaper’s record is shocking and it’s hard to believe it’s the same yard who housed Arkle, Flying Bolt, Fort Leney and gawd only knows how many other great horses.
Wise move if you ask me.
February 10, 2011 at 18:50 #339774becauseicouldn;t see only 50/50, but trainer says should hopefully make it there with 8weeks to the race, he had an operation apparently on his foot after he was hit by another horse in his last race over christmas

Plenty valentine dates have been cut short by the irresistible need to know what weight your fancies have been allotted. They couldn’t pick pancake day, eh?
February 12, 2011 at 12:30 #340047I’ve put together my early days shotlist…
Notre Pere
Carruthers
Deep PurpleFrom Dawn To Dusk
Giles Cross
Midnight Chase
Neptune Collonges
One Cool Cookie
Roll Along
Royal Rosa
Vic Venturi
Hello Bud
Chief Dan George
Le Beau Bai
Saddlers Storm
TaranisThe three in bold are my definite’s provided they get the go ahead. With the withdrawals and weights coming up; i’m hoping my sizing down to 5 will be made easier over time. PLEASE
February 12, 2011 at 13:25 #340062Can’t see Midnight Chase running, although I’d love to see him over those fences. Hoping for a huge run in the Gold Cup from him. Lovely horse.
February 13, 2011 at 00:56 #340376Iv backed the midnight club 20/1, ballytrim 40/1 and tidal bay 50/1. How many of these do you think will run? Tidal bay probably won’t but liked the odds. Think il also back ballybriggs but was just only 14/1 at hills, il wait till im near a coral to get 16’s
February 13, 2011 at 18:57 #340527I’m with Character building. He completed last year and I think he’ll go closer this year.
Synchronised… not a Aintree horse, I’m afraid. Midlands national yes, Aintree no. Think he’ll struggle over the big fences. Why not try him in the becher chase then aim for the national?
Niche Market… another class horse. He’ll run a big race this year, gave harry skelton a dream ride last year, got a feeling he’ll do it again.
Such a shame about Black Apalachi… he could’ve won it this year. He’ll be back next year. As will Mon Mome.
Big Fella thanks… he’ll improve. Will do well.
BecauseIcouldntsee.. race against time after tendon op. Has 8 weeks to get fit, missing a vital warm up race. I’d say it’d be a miracle if he lined up. Fitness would be a question.
Hello Bud.. another horse who gave Sam Twiston Davies a dream ride. One to watch.
February 13, 2011 at 22:00 #340570My list comprises of the following at present ;
Niche Market
– Brave little horse who will run his heart out,McCoy last year maybe Nicholls this year?
Merigo
– Proven stayer, bold jumper and likely to have Timmy Murphy on board, one of the best jocks over extreme distances
West End Rocker
– Versatile ground-wise,thorough stayer, potential low weight and the fact Alan King runs him speaks volumes
Calgary Bay
– Touch of class needed of a National winner, good recent form franked, lovely big horse who could take to the fences

I backed Merigo at 25/1 last week and, at this stage, am happy to stick with that.
