Entries are out
http://www.aintree.co.uk/news/102-entri … -national/
10 for Nicholls, no Denman, nor MadisondB.
Surprised to see an entry for Dream Alliance, and Hobbs has put in Fair Along (!) as well.
February 2, 2011 at 12:46 #338798Thanks for that OA, not too many surprises, looking at that lot, I’d be interested to see what weights are given to Ambobo (or f#####g Ambobo as I’ve called him a few times), and the forgotten horse Roll Along. Both ante-post selections of mine in recent years.
As much as I love Denman, I’m kind of glad he’s not going.
February 2, 2011 at 12:50 #338800Why are you suprised about fair alongs entry, stays, never fallen or unseated (i think), has a touch of class and totally unexposed as a staying chaser. I expect he will have one run over fences after the weights are out, and if he wins he will be running

All fair points, although as he’s not run in a chase for nigh on three years, I kinda thought that a National entry was slightly unusual.
Just noticed, no Mon Mome.
February 2, 2011 at 15:46 #338815Where’s the list of entries?
see my entries list post and form, when the weights are announced i’ll update it

February 2, 2011 at 17:59 #338827Very surprised at no Mon Mome and naturally very disappointed about Black Apalachi. Loads of my selections aren’t in, but some of my favourites still seem to be going; Midnight Chase and Notre Pere being two of them. This is looking like a very good National.
Roll Along surprised me big time. I hope he goes. Has some class and should stay.
I’msingingtheblues and Little Josh were also surprise entries for me.
And very funny to see Dev. The very same that "wouldn’t stay in an air plane" – Jamie Moore
Whinstone Boy is another surprising absentee.
Some good classy horses in there though. Tidal Bay isn’t likely to go i reckon.
Taranis is a good entry i’m likely to latch on to. Same goes for my Welsh National pick Giles Cross.
From Dawn To Dusk better go. If he goes; he places in top 5 at worst.
February 2, 2011 at 18:56 #338836I always back four horses each way in this and, as it stands, I have a feeling (although I reserve the right to totally change my mind!) the quartet will come from:
Backstage
Ballytrim
Bluesea Cracker
Calgary Bay
Chief Dan George
Comply or Die
Don’t Push It
I’moncloudnine
Neptune Collonges
Niche Market
Notre Pere
Oscar Time
Royal Rosa
State Of Play
Synchronised
Vic Venturi
West End RockerNice to see I’ve narrowed it down…I know, I’ll wait till the weights come out before thinking further. Hmmm.

So don't run, just like the others always do

i know, but his trainer said he will be going back over fences at some point this season early on. as he disapointed over hurdles at the weekend i guess he will be chasing sooner than later again

I can’t say I’m especially surprised. He hit the deck pretty hard last time, hasn’t raced since.
Through whatever the circumstances, Mon Mome finished third in the Gold Cup last year, I’d imagine Venetia Williams would rather take the chance on him snaffling a place at the same event this time around than go for another high weighted National attempt.
(and from a personal perspective, I don’t think Aidan Coleman is any great shakes around Aintree either)
Shame about Black Apalachi though, I thought this year might be his year.
February 2, 2011 at 21:19 #338858At first look, four horses stood out to me.
Nedzer’s Return
Becauseicouldn’tsee
Roll Along
The Midnight ClubFebruary 2, 2011 at 22:02 #338866A horse that didn’t get an entry that both surprised and disappointed me was Razor Royale. Racing Post winner and 5th in the Scottish National. Would have thought this race would be his target?
February 3, 2011 at 01:51 #338883Does Razor Royale really stay though?
I know he won a very punishing renewal of the Racing Post, where it all rather fell into his lap before he scrambled home. Still I remember all those runs over hurdles where he couldn’t get up the hill at Cheltenham. Perhaps he had one of those correctional breathing operations, but the Razor doesn’t strike me as one who would relish a marathon trip.

I saw it. Can’t grumble really.
February 4, 2011 at 00:28 #338969Probably won’t get into the race, but what does anyone know about Carronhills? In the Gold Cup betting as well. Also surprised about Fair Along. Not the biggest of horses and would surely struggle with the fences.

9 year old with Old Vic as his sire, so we’re off to a good start. I explained why Old Vic is the greatest National sire last year, only to be put down because his offspring were all heavily weighted… and then what happened?
Likes to chase the leaders, easily stays 3 miles and has won with plenty to spare. Seems to prefer the soft side of the ground, but has form on good. Been pointing, but is now racing under rules. Hasn’t been seen in almost a year, so a Gold Cup win is rather far fetched, but i wouldn’t dismiss him in the National…
February 4, 2011 at 19:21 #339046NICHE MARKET has been the horse i been betting on got 25/1 he be first winner for Nicholls in the race
