I would be very, very surprised if he didn’t make it. He should be around the 11:00 area i’d imagine and his connections were equally gutted to have missed the cut last year. He’s bound for an entry…
Another horse perhaps worth taking an interest in is Offshore Account. He ran a great race in 2009 after a long absence (bar his trial run the previous month) and his fourth in the William Hill at Cheltenham last March is certainly noteworthy. And with connections putting him in the Topham; i reckon he could be aimed for this one again…?
January 26, 2011 at 22:17 #337826I’m backing Calgary Bay. I said last October I thought he should be aimed at the national, and now they’ve said they plan too, that’s where my moneys going.
I`m with you if thats the case ,straight to the top of my shortlist always fancied him as a national type.
January 26, 2011 at 23:15 #337843I’ve followed The Chief for what seems like forever. He disappointed at Cheltenham the first year, but I think he got hurt during the race. Then I didn’t back him when he won at Aintree. More than made up for it when he won at Cheltenham last year. I’ll be a wreck watching him in the National this year
. The thought of him fighting out the finish with my other favourite, Niche Market is the stuff of dreams [or nightmares]. Other than that, I rather fancy Oscar Time and West End Rocker [the latter of which I know nothing about; he seems to have appeared from nowhere, and I don’t think of Alan King as a National trainer; never seems too keen on the race]. And, of course, I can’t miss out Character Building, as I have backed him ante post for @ 20 years [or so it seems…]
January 29, 2011 at 22:08 #338269Thought Calgary ran a nice race today so hope he is entered.
Looks a bit ungainly at a moderate pace but jumps really well at speed reminds me of a Party Politics type not quite top class but a nice big sort.January 30, 2011 at 17:41 #338390entries close on tuesday 1st february, then not long till we will find out hte weights its usually mid february

January 31, 2011 at 20:54 #338540What do people think about Ballabriggs performance today?
Does it warrant being backed further into favouritism at 16/1?
Has an obvious chance based on his performance in the Kim Muir, but I can’t help feeling there are much better chances at much better odds with Aintree from in the book?
I appreciate he’s not much of a bigger price, but the more I look at Big Fella Thanks the more I like him. First run last year in the national and finishes 4th? Was due to have Ruby Walsh on board but due to injury he couldn’t ride him?
Ran twice this season so far, decent run after the break at Carlisle, just a length down to Hey Big Spender, and then ran in the Hennessy Gold Cup, falling at the third.
What are peoples opinions?

January 31, 2011 at 23:17 #338551Hey JoP, it was actually his 2nd run in The National, he was 6th the year before, but he was just a 7yo then, with very few races behind him. Don’t think he disgraced himself on either occasion, so if you’re backing him, good luck, there’s certainly worse ones out there (at least he’ll be going, which is more can be said for my selections at the moment ). As you said, the Henessy won’t have told you much, but, who knows what the change of scenery at Murphys will have done for him.
As for Ballabriggs, I think it was clear at the start of the season, he was always going to be near the head of the betting. I’ve missed both his wins recently, but he’s clearly impressing a few punters. I’m a big fan of the stable, but I still wouldn’t be backing him at that price just now though. Serious contender though I think.

February 1, 2011 at 18:34 #338688A shame on both accounts. Really like Black Apalachi, through and through stayer.

February 1, 2011 at 20:25 #338716Well, as expected, Fabalu doesn’t go , but glad to see Khachaturian getting an entry, now just to see whether or not he can sneak in or not. Still think, if they can sort his jumping out, he’d have a real chance.
February 1, 2011 at 20:43 #338719Where’s the list of entries?
Twitter=@PGHenn
So don't run, just like the others always do
February 2, 2011 at 00:15 #338757five, sorry, havent got the full list of entries yet, read elsewhere about those 2.
Hopefully the full list will be out early tomorrow, so I can waste more money
