With a ‘nod’ to the much missed Gerald, and his 2011 thread which he had already started, thought I’d start a new thread on this board.

Synchronized probably going to be popular after his win in the Welsh National, and with the entries out soon, with the weights to follow soon after, it’ll be interesting to see what he gets alloted.

My long term fancy has been Fabalu, but his late withdrawal from The Becher Chase, and also the Welsh National, has me a bit concerned. I’ve already bet more on him than is healthy at big prices. I’m keeping my fingers crossed he’ll line up.
I’ve also bet his stablemate Khachaturian, although not sure if he’s going that route. Again, few quid chucked at big prices. 8)

As mentioned on Geralds thread, I did at one point, fancy Deutschland a lot, but the small bet I put on him a few months ago, will be more than enough judged on recent performances. :D

Of the rest, pretty obvious ones, but stablemate of the above 2 Ballabriggs, looks of interest, along with 3 old faves of mine, One Cool Cookie, Maljimar, and State Of Play.

    Any thoughts?

I`m not sure Synchronized is the ideal type for Aintree ,jumps flat at some of his fences he is turning into a class act though in staying chases .
I think the mention of Khachaturian is interesting i`ve long felt there was a big run in this horse and i`ve been following him since he fell at the first in the Triumph taking my money with him.

I like the look of Ballyvesey thought he was given a nice show of the fences in the Becher .
Also would like to see Oh Crick given an entry jumps really well and looks as though he would stay given the chance .

Hopefully The Midnight Club will be aimed for this. Ricci has bought him since his last run so presumably he has got a big target in mind after the Thyestes.

    I don’t know, Dad.

    Ballyvesey

wants a couple more seasons and a much, much bigger rating to even get in, although i would like his chances when he gets his shot.

    Midnight Chase

has been my National horse for months and months now, but it seems his connections are looking for a Gold Cup bid, which i admit does excite me, i feel it would seriously hinder his National chances running in both.

    I’ve been waiting for

    Companero

‘s return for over a year now. He’s been entered in a few chases recently, but has yet to bloody race. Hopefully we’ll see him make one or two appearances before the race itself. Hell; hopefully he gets entered.

Still got my fingers crossed for

    Keenans Future

    !

And of course my old boy

    Black Apalachi

. Sure he lands steep, but he stays forever and ever and ever as does my trust in him. Haven’t been on a horse for the National 4 years in a row since Brave Highlander some 12/13 years ago!

This National is looking amazing with some really brilliant contenders. The race is getting classier as the years go by and hopefully this years will keep up the trend.

Best sporting event in the world.

darwen…….Khachaturian would be a "nice" result for me. I’ve still no idea whether or not he’s gonna go for it. Think he’d be interesting though!

IC….as for The Midnight Club, to be honest, the horse has kind of passed me by, considering some of the races it’s run in, but I know it’s been quietly fancied by some for a while. Was well touted for it a few months ago if I remember. Think there’s a good chance it’ll be targetted for it.

Very rarely play ante-post but had a chunk of Ballabriggs for Aintree today.

No, not because he won a 2m6f novices’ hurdle at Wincanton; it was just that seeing him in that reminded me I’d marked him out as a Grand National horse when he won the Kim Muir last year.

Stays all day, sound jumper, bit of class, 10 years old, should get in with about 11 stone… can’t believe I got 25s.

As peter said above, love this race, my favourite date in the whole sporting calendar. And I agree, this year’s is shaping up to be a belter. As, to be fair, it always is…

I told you last year no one listened so ffs pay attention

Forget Synchronised, Don’t Push It will win again.

Only so much they can give him too carry and it’s certainly not enough to stop him repeating last years easy win.

Enjot youre debate but that’s it for me and the Grand national.

I’ll be having four horses, as is my won’t, and the first on my list is I’moncloudnine.

Tough, good jumper, lots of stamina, will enjoy Aintree, they should’ve sorted out the canal turn cockup in the Bechers, and should be carrying a nice weight.

Not sure who my other three are, although if it’s muddy it will be hard to see past Synchronised and Winstone Boy for two of the spots.

So don't run, just like the others always do

Don`t Push It will be put at a disadvantage if campaigned solely over hurdles ,didn`t work for Bobbyjo or Numbersixvalverdi.

Would be rude of me not to respond.

Neither horse you mention ran solely over hurdles before running in the National. Bobbyjo ran in only one hurdle race and 4 chases and Numbersixvalverde ran in 3 chases and only one hurdle race that season.

Anyway ou are missing the point totally.

It wasn’t running over hurdles that beat Bobbyjo. He carried 10 stone when he won the National and got lumped up with 11st6bs on his second attempt.

Numbersixvalverde also carried a low weight when he won and although he carried only 9lbs more 11st3lbs he had gone into that dreaded over 11 stone zone. It would also be safe to say he was probably past his best in what proved to be his last race.

Don’t Push It already carried 11st5lbs and won with ease I doubt if 5lbs will stop him and if by any chance Denman were to run he’d probably carry less than he did last year. I’ve already taken 30 28 26 and 25 on the machine for a right few quid and can’t for the hell of me undertand why he’s so big.

Jonjo now has Synchronised to fit into plans but albeit barely unnoticeable because the others were going so slow he hit another flat spot yesterday. Faster ground and a much faster pace at Aintree certainly won’t suit him but if it were to come up soft Jonjo has both covered.

Another horse I’ve been dabbling in from as high as 100 (would be something if I could outdo the 60 I got on DPI last season) is Imoncloudnine.

I backed him in the Welsh National and was very pleased with the way he ran. Neil Mulholland must be thinking he has a great chance if the ground comes up good in April. He’d be a stone better horse on good ground and already shown he can jump round Aintree. He UR Dougie Costello at the Canal Turn but it was more like something out of a Laurel and Hardy movie than a bad mistake. Dougie was very unfortunate as the horse went left after the others and his moentum tipped him over the horses right shoulder.

He should get in with a fairly low weight as he was well beaten by Jonjo’s yesterday. He can lie up with the pace which is a plus and stays forever. I fancy him big time but Don’t Push It has to be my main choice having done it before.

    It’s hard not to like

    Don’t Push It

considering his winning effort last year and like Fist said his weight shouldn’t be an issue. And because i’m such a sweetheart i’m not going to be taking jabs at the horses age seeing as most of my fancies are almost teenagers :D

    I really hope

    Preists Leaps

connections aim him for the race again. Last year was a really unfortunate race for him. He was leading over the third, but was hampered goodness knows how many times after wards and didn’t land well over the water which saw his chances end. With a cleaner round and on softer going he’d take it.

I reckon a big gamble will be on

    Ballyfitz

on the right going. Couldn’t believe his SP in the Welsh National yesterday. 9/1 third/fourth favourite wasn’t he?

    Also want to look into

    Backstage

‘s recent runs, see if he’s still enjoying himself. He was really fancied by many as a National type, but was brought down last year, so could be aimed for it again.

NOTRE PERE is my fancy for this race since the Becher.

He jumped from fence to fence without a care in the orld that day, absolutely stepping over them. He’s built for it too, a huge animal, tailor made for this test.

He was hampered and lost most of his momentum and loads of ground at Bechers when looking like he was going to be in with a shout, before finishing in a respectable fifth.

    A nice price too.

I’m glad i’m not the only one who saw all those hampers. Seems everyone else prefers jumping on the "he didn’t take to it" truck, but i’ve liked him for this race since winning that 3 miler at Navan in 2008 before he took the Welsh National. I just wish his connections would accept he’s not cut for these big grade 1’s. He is a calssy horse, just look at his Punchestown Gold Cup win, but they just need to take that and remember it; not repeat it. I was disappointed when he was withdrawn late last year, but hopefully he’ll get his chance this year.

And dad i found another one you might like for this. He’s owned by Roddy Owen and Paul Fullagar, so i guess i needn’t say anymore, but i’ll spoil you. Now he doesn’t have the trademark "Bally" name, but he does look interesting.

    Quattrocento

. Has been tested over mostly 3 miles and easily stays it. He recently finished a handsome second in a 3 mile slog in the mud at Sandown and looked good doing it. Seems to jump well having never fallen or unseated in his career, but he is a bit young at 7, but he should look better next year.

In the season following their national wins Bobbyjo ran in three hurdles and no chases and if you watch the 2000 national back looks like a horse out of practice.
Numbersixvalverse ran in 2 hurdles 1 chase.

Agree about Imncloudnine he was enjoying it in the Becher and his run in the welsh makes him the sort of toughnut that does well in the GN
