Strange, the bookmakers cut Ballabriggs for winning a couple of hurdles and then leave him unchanged when he gets beaten over fences? Even allowing for the winner having a new lease of life, he found disappointingly little off the bridle and I think there are big doubts about him staying the trip and even if he did whether he is good enough.
I was at Kelso and i wouldn’t read anything too much into it. They went no pace early on. The front two are nice horses. Whether they have the stamina for the National is guesswork. One thing that strikes me about the National these days is that apart from Amberleigh House, nothing has come from a mile back to win. If the ground is quick you need a horse with a bit of pace to keep up in the first half of the race. The winner is usually in the front group by Beechers second time. These two could cope with that. Not sure the likes of Silver By Nature would be within 25 lengths at this stage on decent ground.
March 7, 2011 at 19:28 #343643Yeah Aintree is a front runner track best suited for those who like to stick up with the pace for a long way out…
Though Mon Mome is a hold up horse, but the incident at Bechers was the difference maker that year, so really we can stick with front runners to stay safe, but we can’t forget the one indeterminable stat in the race: luck.
March 7, 2011 at 22:16 #343672Synchronised is actually by Sadlers Wells, KC; not sure if any more are as I haven’t looked at all of them.
March 8, 2011 at 08:08 #343696Has Notre Pere been scratched, then?

So don't run, just like the others always do

She’s got style, she’s got grace, she’s a winner.She’s a Lady. Whoa whoa whoa, she’s a Lady
Talkin’ about that little Lady, and the Lady isours

My work here is done!
March 13, 2011 at 11:58 #344543Has Notre Pere been scratched, then?
No he is very much still in the lineup…
March 14, 2011 at 00:43 #344753Looking at everyone’s list I’m surprise at Bluesea Cracker not mentioned.
Here’s my list for the national
1 Don’t Push It
2 Niche Market
3 State Of Play
4 Arbor Supreme
5 Northern Alliance
6 Tricky Trickster
7 Ballytrim
8 Oscar Timeand not forgetting the fairer sex
9 Bluesea Cracker
I’m hoping the winner is amongst the nine.
March 19, 2011 at 15:15 #346216Phil Smith aught to keep an eye over his shoulder, because the connections of Ballyfitz are going to want to shoot him… many times. Can’t believe the form he’s in and that he is pretty much guaranteed to miss out on the National…
Course with that said the connections of Merigo, Giles Cross, Junior and Regal Heights are probably all coming up on strategies on how to murder him…
No… no i’m not wrong i am very much correct.
March 19, 2011 at 19:42 #346253reading news on sportinglife website about denman staying on in training next year, and commenting on other gold cup finishes, its reported that midnight chase will go to aintree but for the betfair bowl and will do the national next year, if im reading it right?
and tidal bay goes straight to aintree, as they think he has a good chance the way he is running his races lately

March 19, 2011 at 20:05 #346258Good news about Tidal Bay; it means that, if Don’t Push It didn’t run the weights wouldn’t go up much, so we know where we are, weight wise with most of them. Ballyfitz’s jockey said he took to it very well last year; such a shame that, with the bad weather some horses din’t get a chance to improve their OR. Would have loved the old boy to have won today; he deserves a big race..jumped beautifully. Just imagine, DPI, Ballyfitz and Tidal Bay in the National..what a parcel of rogues. Maybe next year for the Twisters Fitzer.
March 19, 2011 at 22:20 #346286removed trocky trickster and midnight chase
as well as snowy morningvf
March 19, 2011 at 23:07 #346292Did Snowy run in the Foxhunters in the end? Don’t think he did. Does anyone know if he’s ok?
March 20, 2011 at 01:13 #346306Some bookies are beginning to go NRNB already. I will be doing mine now to save the drama of going into the bookies on the day (stopped by the protestors outside and then a queue of 10 people in front who have never placed a bet) Anyway, back to the point you often find the winner is linked to jockeys/trainers that have done well at Cheltenham.
Im going for Backstage at 14/1 Best odds gauranteed bet 365 and Oscar Time 14/1 likewise.
The winner will come from one of those two in my opinion.
What does everyone else fancy at this stage?

March 20, 2011 at 13:31 #346355Backstage as my main hope, then Merigo and Hello Bud if either get in, not sure on how the list of weights and who gets a run works. Info will be much appreciated.
March 20, 2011 at 13:39 #346358Decided to add Our Monty to my shortlist. Hasn’t run in almost 2 years, but he’s only got 10-3 and has good staying ability, winning the 3, 4 Cork National in his last appearance.
Notre Pere
Deep Purple
Giles Cross
One Cool Cookie
Roll Along
Royal Rosa
Vic Venturi
Hello Bud
Saddlers Storm
Our MontyRemoved Midnight Chase due to the 3 miler at Aintree and i’ve ditched Le Beau Bai and Chief Dan George. Neither one is in any convincing form.
March 20, 2011 at 13:41 #346359Current longlist from the top 55 in the weights:
Ballytrim
Big Fella Thanks
Bluesea Cracker
Calgary Bay
Frankie Figg
Killyglen
Niche Market
Oscar Time
State of Play
The Midnight Club
West End RockerShaping up to be a cracking race with bottom weight around 10-2.
March 20, 2011 at 13:56 #346364Oooh interesting call on Frankie Figg. I never figured he’d stay the trip, but stranger things have happened.
