Whatever way you look at it, the lack of runners from Mr O’Brien’s yard cannot be regarded as positive for the merit of his 3yo or the international standing of the Goodwood fixture. Once upon a time Ballydoyle sent over a good representation but since Age of Aquarius they have had very few runners at the course.
August 1, 2012 at 21:21 #408633I had noticed that too EF. I imagine he will have one in the Nassau but even so. I was wondering if it was because of the weather in Ireland. AOB said the other day he had struggled to get his team out on the gallops. Maybe he is just giving them a mid season break?
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
August 1, 2012 at 21:29 #408635Quite possibly, I read about the problems with the gallops too. They have been using the all-weather since the Guineas and there is probably room for a natural break. He has had respectable number of runners at Galway this week and I dont think he had many runners at Goodwood last year either.
August 1, 2012 at 22:15 #408642Good.
August 1, 2012 at 22:22 #408643Good that one of the world’s foremost trainers regards the meeting of little importance, or good that his 3yos are not up to much given that he has carried off all four English Classics this season with such a poor lot or good because you have some sort of irrational xenophobic tourettes?
August 1, 2012 at 22:39 #408649He was never going to have a runner in the Sussex now was he ?
I wonder why ?
Having said that, I do take your point, and wonder why that is.August 2, 2012 at 06:05 #408658He had a number of 5day enteries, but get the impression that either the races don’t really suit the horses he has at present or (more likely) that his horses aren’t where he wants them so unlikely to win, so why send them over.
August 2, 2012 at 06:57 #408659It doesn’t matter, maybe they prefer to have a quiet week at Galway.

Yes. That’s exactly right. Not liking every single Irish person on the planet obviously means i have ‘xenophobic tourettes’. What other illness will you diagnose me with now that i think you’re a silly old moo ?… sexist epilepsy ?
August 2, 2012 at 10:00 #408677Eclipse , its hard to gauge the merit of your post , as this Goodwood meeting is really enjoyable , attended by thousands , watched by loads , appreciated by many
Fair enough the group races may not be stellar in quality , but still very competitive
I suspect the dearth of prize money may be linked to the lack of international class , but then again thats where we are , long gone are the days when British racing was the flagship …now we are the poor relation
I think we have to enjoy what is presented , or give up
cheers
Ricky
ps who gives a damn about A O B . or his runners
