Sorry Grayson but…
Value Is EverythingFebruary 27, 2021 at 22:21 #1525722A real shame imo
Hard work and broken dreamsGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
February 27, 2021 at 23:12 #1525730Horse racing once again trying too hard to win over the press. No one would have bat an eyelid had amateurs been allowed to take part. No one seemed too fussed about Marine taking part in the FA Cup game against Spurs, despite being a from a “grass roots” league. If they were genuinely concerned about limiting numbers, then surely they’d ban the Irish coming over in droves? I’m not suggesting this be done of course, but what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Unless it doesn’t suit.

Barmy Covid unwarranted and unwanted restriction.

So they should do it every year then?

Hopefully the amateurs will be ok for Aintree
February 27, 2021 at 23:34 #1525739Yes, should be every year. They can’t judge pace well enough to be involved in this festival.

That clueless Victoria Pendelton bint managed to get round unscathed
February 27, 2021 at 23:45 #1525742Sometimes they will get it right, Tank; but imo they get pace wrong at this meeting (finishing tired and/or tired falls) far too often… And then there’s the fact amateurs don’t judge the fences as well as professionals – all putting the horses at a greater (unacceptable) risk. Therefore amateurs should not be at the Festival.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 28, 2021 at 00:25 #1525749It is a farce to consider Patrick Mullins and Jamie Codd as amateurs…….
February 28, 2021 at 00:39 #1525750What about the other Jockeys? You’re surely not justifying large numbers of runners (jockeys) in an amateur race just because there’s two or three good jockeys? Codd often stays towards the back, lets the others go too fast and then comes through to win. Judgement of pace is precisely why Codd is so good in this sphere. But Codd is just one rider; damage is done by the others going too fast.
Unfortunately Jamie Codd can not ride all the runners.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 28, 2021 at 00:44 #1525751I should’ve added that amateur riders are also more likely to be whip happy and/or persevere longer than they should without pulling up.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 28, 2021 at 00:45 #1525752What I’m saying is that Patrick and Jamie should lose their amateur status, they are too good for the rest…. Of course, they’re not the only two “real pros”…
February 28, 2021 at 08:58 #1525772Cannot say I am bothered. The top amateurs are shamateurs anyway.
Not a fan of any of the amateur rider races at the festival. The NH chase two seasons ago was a disgrace. The Kim Muir is like a worse version of the Ultima and a race I would drop. And the Foxhunters is an anti-climax after the Gold Cup.
Some of the riding is indefensible. I might be talking through my pocket because I backed Pendra in the Kim Muir one year (I had always liked the horse after seeing him win a novice hurdle at Plumpton). The horse who beat him was ridden by an amateur who paid no heed to the whip rules whatsoever. It was one of the most disgraceful rides I have ever seen. I felt cheated to have lost in that manner.
Amateur races. Who needs them?!
February 28, 2021 at 09:27 #1525783That is definitely some nonsense coming out of your fingers ginge
Suspect your talking about one race in particular here with one especially bad running of it.
Theres as many professionals get the pace wrong at the festival as there is amateurs, if your point of view was taken seriously it questions all races in which a bunch of horses finishes tired, how many pros get the GN wrong ?
Utter drivel.
