Not one of them have had a finishing effort, take it he’s left plenty to work on and some good prices to take advantage off!

I struggle to believe that Nicholls would send so many undercooked horses to the racecourse this close to the Festival, especially for owners such as Andy Stewart. Either there’s something affecting the majority of the yard or the hype horses are being proven to be just that.

Royal Charm will hopefully offer more of a clue as to the state of play at Ditcheat.

Nycetos running in the 2.05, very short at 7-1 considering his form in 2009.

Someones confident, we’ll see how he runs.

I’ll be laying Royal Charm if this is well out the frame especially after Five Dream in previous race.

Royal Charm well beat, came with every chance but not good enough.

Here, Tatenen could this be a day for the unfancied Nicholls runners after Taranis display.

Wouldnt put it past the horse, good each way.

That may be so, Corm, but were any of those mentioned (Big Buck’s aside) prominent in the Festival markets on the back of apparently impressive victories?

With only his public utterances to go by, I’ve always said Nicholls is a better leader, organiser, PR man, gatherer of good people then a man with any great knowledge of the racehorse. His opinion of his own horses on any given day can almost always be discarded. Amazing how often he gets it wrong given he’s the Champion and so successful. Unless he’s putting us all away, but I’ll give him the benefit on that one.

Excellent trainer no doubt. But anyone that tries to make money by following his coumn in the Post would be potless by now. Clivexx will be along soon to tell me how wrong I am soon, unless he’s had to flog his PC! :)

Interesting that Ruby Walsh is only 1/17 for Nicholls since last Sunday and being beaten on 3 odds on shots at 8/15, 4/11 and 2/11.

Take The Breeze and Celestial Halo were both very dissapointing at Leopardstown last week.

    Gullible Gordon 5/4 pulled up.

Taranis apart another all round poor showing from the yards horses today.

    A very poor week!

Before this forum buries Paul Nicholls completely, it might be worth recalling that he invariably inoculates the majority of his string in early January, and consequently they are often behind in their work for a couple of weeks.
Something he regularly informs us of in his RP column DJ, as he did only recenly.

I think you have to ask yourself how many of PN’s Cheltneham horses would be 100% 3 or 4 weeks ago. Not many. When the snow hit they are bound to have taken a further step backwards so it’s hardly suprising when some get turned over. BUt overall yesterday they ran ok IMO.

Pistolet Noir is a class act but totally resented being out in front. He ran very green and looked like he was little boy lost for most of the race. Not saying he was 100% fit but he came up the hill like a tiger after nearly falling over sideways at the last. Just one of those races and the winner would never beat him again.

I don’t know if anyone fancied Five Dream but for me he’s run as well as could be expected.

If Nycetos 7/1 was trained by Brendan Powell he’d have started at 50/1 on what he’s achieved lately.

Tyranis won enough said his other runner fell or he may well have ended up with the first 2 in the big race of the day.

Royal Charm’s form o very heavy ground with James De Vassey was very suspect and was beaten by 2 better horses, Tatenen is Tatenen and Taceroc ran a decent race for an 11/1 shot.

Can’t really see a problem with PN’s horses yesterday just another day at the races.

Maybe we’ve come to expect too much from Nicholls and his horses? It doesn’t seem long ago at all that him and Ruby seemed to be having trebles and fourtimers nearly every Saturday afternoon..

There’s obvious excuses for most of them, but I just thought 5 or 6 of his better horses have ran a long way below par in the last week or so.

One thing I am pretty sure of though, is they will all be in peak condition come the middle of March!

Fist I think you’re the only person who isnt concerned by Nicholls form, I dont think its just yesterday we should be concerned about its getting worse by the day. The trainer even admitted entering a horse in the wrong race and was quiet upset about this, Nicholls certianly looks to have taken his eye off the ball lately.

I’m not concerned by Nicholl’s horses. Every trainer, every year has a dry spell where things don’t take off like they’re supposed to. He’s always good when the time is right, and nobody wins the majority of races. He can still win as many at the festival as he did last year, what more can be expected ffs ?

Why would anyone be concerned? He has a 20% strike rate over the last 14 days which is about 3% down on has overall average for the season. He’s won 2 grade 1 races and 50% of his horses have been placed.

The fact Celestial Halo seems to have gone back wards and Tataniano, a bubble waiting to burst, have been beaten ut’s highlighted things but that’s racing…Saying PN has taken his eye of the ball is man on the moon stuff……….PN is the complete professional.

That would just about sum it up! We will know very early on at the festival what form his horses are in,when Celestial Halo runs in the Champion hurdle! 20/1 about the horse that was beaten a gnats cod last year, Xmas is but twice a year!

He’s been trained differently this year Gord, face facts he gone and most likely won’t run….did I mention Binocular would win the Champion Hurdle?
