did I mention Binocular would win the Champion Hurdle?

Good luck with that, think you’ll be needing abit more than lady luck to be collecting there.
January 31, 2010 at 16:01 #273263He’s been trained differently this year Gord, face facts he gone and most likely won’t run….did I mention Binocular would win the Champion Hurdle?

No i didn"t realise you fancied Binocular!!!!!! I thought you were on Muirhead?

OAMARU STONE 9/2F , Pulled up, gassed with 2 miles left to run.Probably fair to say that’s the slowest horse Nicholls has ever trained.
February 2, 2010 at 14:31 #273610TAUNTON 2.10 Toubab anothe Nicholls/French flop, not that expected anything else looking at it’s form and build
February 2, 2010 at 15:55 #273621Watergate and Valentine Vic another two to struggle, Rock on Ruby is drifting like a barge in the bumper too with Hobbs’s Karasenir coming in for support.
The inocculation process is obviously affecting all of the stable’s horses at the moment (excluding Taranis) and consequently all runners are probably best watched for the time being.

Taunten 210 – Toubab 4/6F (REMOTE 5TH)
Taunten 310 – Watergate 11/4 (REMOTE 4TH)
Taunten 340 – Valentine Vic 7/4F (TAILED OFF)Am I the only one profiting from this, gotta spot these things early.
Still got Rock on Ruby in 440, 11/8 another great lay!
Hope everyone is making good laying profits, cant wait for tomorow its going to be great!
February 2, 2010 at 16:56 #273632Rock on Ruby won the *******, I was on Karasenir big time as he’s highly regarded by Hobbs.

Ignoring the fact that Toubab wasn’t a remote fifth (but nevertheless disappointing), Watergate wasn’t a remote fourth (but nevertheless disappointing) and Valentine Vic wasn’t tailed off (but neverthless disappointing), Taranis proved that the odd one still runs well.
Hopefully your fail-safe system didn’t fail too badly.
As I said on the Triumph Hurdle thread you’d have to be extremely brave – else crazy – to place any faith in Nicholls’s horses at the moment (which is strange given how well Twist Magic, Ghizao and The Nightingale ran recently), but the failure of his lesser-lights at least indicates that the likes of Pistolet Noir and Royal Charm are still potentially decent.
February 2, 2010 at 17:14 #273636This thread seems to often do the rounds, not all Nicholls runners are superstars, though they will almost always start at prices that don’t reflect their form purely because they are trained by the great trainer. The two Stewart horses that ran today are far from top class, escpecially Oamaru Stone who is almost certain to be sold on to a lesser stable I imagine.
That 3 mile novice race was a competitive race for change for a Tuesday novice event, the winner will almost certainly turn out to be the better of the two I expect, so on balance, I would say all nicholls runners today were beaten on merit.

Omarau Stone certainly was, tbracing – he’s shown absolutely nothing in his career thus far – and Watergate too was likely overbet and/or underpriced, but Toubab and Valentine Vic were just beaten too easily to believe that they have run even remotely close to their best. The same has been true of a number of Nicholls’s horses of late, with many apparently failing to see out their races.
All I’m saying is, two performances aside, Paul Nicholls’s form has been poor and with the dip not being limited to his supposedly better novices it would seem to be an environmental issue (such as the innoculation of every horse in the yard, though what sort of an effect that would have I don’t know).
February 2, 2010 at 17:43 #273644Maybe MG, you could have a fair point. Personally I prefer to cry stable meltdown as a very last port of call as there are many reasons races are won and lost and in todays case and some of the recent, I just don’t think Nicholls runners have been the best in the race.
Can’t overly comment on the Toubab race I didn’t give it much time and not watch the video back yet but Valentine Vic race was a very good race, (I apologise profusely for the aftertime) but I backed Bally Sand, Voramar Two and An Accordion in the race as I felt it was very competitive and open and he was no way gaurenteed to turn out to be the best of that field.
Restless Harry should have been favourite at Cheltenham the other day not Royal Charm, horses like Tatenen, Takeroc, Five Dream, handicapped to the hilt, Inchidaly Rock taking on Grade 1 and 2 winners as a novice, even Oracle Des Mottes today ran ok but finds it impossible to win now on his mark, the opportunities have just been slim recently.
I would be happy there is no concern over the runners right now, but I suppose we’ll have to agree to disagree mate

I am seriously struggling to define the reasoning behind your logic of there is nothing to be worried about, I may not have 30 years expierance behind me like some forum members but I like to put my money were my mouth is and some people will always hate you for that, nevertheless im strong in my belief that the yard are not going right, horses are coming of the bridle too soon and finding nothing – I wont bring up the demise of Master Minded because people probally seem to have forgotten that and put it down to something silly.
I would like to apologize to anyone offended by this thread, time will tell but I wont be around to say I told you so because humble pie isn’t what I serve.

In all fairness, MRW, Master Minded ran with a fractured rib at Cheltenham and has been recovering ever since – hardly the beginning of the end for him.

Valentine Vic tired after taking on a much better horse (rated 25lb superior on his chase rating – yet rec’d 7lbs today) for most of the race, after which they both capitulated to a horse P Hobbs is kicking himself for not entering in the Albert Bartlett. Shocking innit?
Mr Wilson – you got lucky. Take the money and run; it won’t last.February 2, 2010 at 19:45 #273668Media Gecko wrote…..Toubab (was) just beaten too easily to believe that (he) has run even remotely close to (his) best.
His Best? His only previous form was last of three, how good is that?
Nicholls has plodders in his yard like anyone else, I do hope nothing is wrong apart from anything spoiling the spectale of Denman v. Kauto Star and Tidal Bay v. Big Bucks, maybe even Sizing Europe v. Master Minder, I’m banking on Denman paying for our new sash windows
February 2, 2010 at 19:50 #273670Reet Hard….I wouldn’t get too carried away with the form, Cappa Bleu is a decent Hunter Chaser, no more, no less, he beat a below average field in the 2009 Foxhunters, he’s not the "Second Coming" that the early hype would have us believe. No more than Long Run is this year
If An Siorrac had turned up at Cheltenham last year he’d have won The Foxhunters by 25 or 30 lengths
