dos anyone know if this horse is anygood? i mean i havn’t actually seen it run yet myself but its entered for the Powers Gold Cup on the 23rd this mnth, what you guys think?
March 16, 2008 at 17:04 #151853Only run once since beating Denman and not seen for nearly two years..
March 16, 2008 at 17:59 #151865I wouldn’t read too much into the fact that he beat Denman over hurdles as Denman was always going to be a better chaser than a hurdler.
March 18, 2008 at 13:34 #152265Has Ruby Walsh or any Irish jockey ever given any horse a good ride MP?
March 18, 2008 at 13:36 #152266Beat me to it CR!
March 18, 2008 at 15:04 #152308Lets be honest about this MP – Sam Thomas is gorgeous; even my daughter noticed that when I told her to watch the Gold Cup last week….I have to admit to being slightly biased, because, to be honest racing isn’t too full of eye candy for us ladies, is it????
March 18, 2008 at 15:11 #152312I thought you ladies all fantisied about Gary Bardwell?

Your opinions in isolation are you own and your very welcome to them.
When you give the Pipes as the reason for Crack Away Jacks victory, when you blame Davy Russell for bad rides then refuse to credit him in victory, when you blame Walsh for Denmans defeat, another Walsh as part of C4’s decision to cutback on McCririck, when you have a go at "over hyped" Irish hurdlers, criticise Irish cable TV, Irish racing journalists and an Irish trainer (Noel Meade) a pattern kinda begins to emerge.
Most people on TRF just kinda love horses (me included).
March 18, 2008 at 20:20 #152414When ruby lost at cheltenham on denman he had very few outings so who would know the best way to ride him to the best of his abilitys, Also you talk absolute rubbish put some thought into what you say instead of just trying to be upfront confrontational please respond
March 18, 2008 at 20:53 #152428to be honest i think you are being more sexist by mentioning she is a female poster. I personally felt no difference I was jusr responding to someones opinions that I felt strongly against I suggest it is you that may have feminist issues
March 18, 2008 at 21:34 #152446Some interesting points from MyceneanPrincess. The whole Cheltenham Preview concept has become a victim of its own success. I am never going to one of these talking shops again.

On TRF I can read informed comment and opinion on US, French, German, Asian, Australian and Gulf racing as well as our own and its wonderful. What binds this forum together is the appreciation contributors have for great horses and great horseraces regardless of where those horses, trainers or jockeys are based or where they come from. That may not be the case elsewhere, I wouldn’t know, but it is the case here.
Your recent nationality referenced postings are something I haven’t experienced on TRF before. Whether your anti Irish or not is your own business, I really dont care, but your snide and insulting recent comments have no place on this forum imo and so I’ve pulled you up over it.
As for the points you raised…..
The Pipes obviously thought differently about Ashkazar than you did, he was a major festival gamble. I’m not a fan of Carberry but I thought it was a great ride. You seem to have great difficulty acknowledging that for some reason?
You seem to be particularly bothered about the Davy Russell hype machine, here’s a pre festival comment from the man himself…
"Anyone backing me to be leading rider would want to get their head checked – I’ve a few chances but to be comparing me to Ruby Walsh, the likes of Barry Geraghty – and Paul Carberry has some fantastic rides as well… if I were a 100-1 shot, that price would reflect my chance."
I haven’t read any Davy Russell hype on TRF either.
You mention objectivity, yet you suggest being "homesick" as a reason for some of his rides. My opinion on the rides you have mentioned……
Forpaddydeplaster – Given every chance and ran on under pressure, not quite good enough on the day but massively improved this year, connections must be delighted with him.
Zaarito – Did find trouble in running about a mile out (possibly jockeys fault) but came down the hill well enough, couldnt go with the winner when asked for an effort, wouldn’t have won regardless.
Mossbank – Connections expressed concern about the stickiness of the ground pre race and the horse was ridden to conserve its energy. Probably rode to instructions but over did it and certainly not Russells best ride. Better going right handed on dry ground, watch it for Punchestown.
River Liane – Broke a blood vessel, enough said.
As for you assertion that he couldnt hack it with the big boys when at Ferdys…..
He came home every weekend when based in England. He’s a homebird, enjoys being around his family and friends, going hunting once or twice a week and is an avid follower of GAA. He went to England gave it a go and decided it wasn’t for him. I’d call that mental strength, making a decision based on what makes you happy.
His opinion on being a big race jockey…..
"Obviously I’d like to ride big race winners and move my way up the ladder but if I keep the people I’m riding for happy and am happy in myself, thats really my target"
….no mention of big race jockey hype there either.
"He seems to crack when the pressure is on"
The pressure was on last Friday and he gave Tiger Cry imo one of the rides of the festival. I think 9 rides in the first 4, not bad going really for a "homesick" mentally weak over hyped Irish based jockey.
Thomas, Walsh, Moore, Batchelor, Thornton, on Denman, not much difference imo.
Why would you even bring Ted Walsh into a discussion on the future of John McCririck on Channel 4?
Irish Champion Hurdle Hype – John Carr…hype? Henry "Mr easygoing" De Bromhead…hype? Am I missing something here? Both horse’s merits were discussed at length on TRF but show me the hype please…I’m waiting.
Hype is generated largely by UK and Irish based bookmakers talking up the "wrong horse". Its how they make money every day, its how they make even more money during Cheltenham.
Setanta – I didnt see it, if its as bad as their other sports coverage I didnt miss much but to compare "Irish based jornos" to Stephen Hawking, is that really necessary?
Expressing your opinion as fact, calling posters "idiots" who disagree with your "facts" and providing not much but insults to sustain your "facts"…is that the big picture I’m missing?
I look forward to your input in the future MP, just leave the passport stuff elsewhere.
March 19, 2008 at 07:16 #152485Good post, Cav.

March 19, 2008 at 12:10 #152553Excellent Post Cav. I don’t think MP is anti Irish, however I don’t agree with most of her opinions, her view on Denman’s defeat in the Sun Alliance is a bit ludicrous given the fact that Nicanor was so much better over his hurdles than Denman. However I am sure MP will find some alliance with other forumites with bees in their bonnets….What’s your view on John Joe O’Neill MP?
