I understand the NOTW is going to be running a big "race fixing" story tomorrow.
Anybody know what it’s all about?
April 16, 2011 at 08:13 #350494Five jockeys losing races for money I beleive
April 16, 2011 at 08:52 #350498If the News Of The World get any credibility for stories about corruption after what they’ve been up to, then the country is truly populated by morons.

For once we agree Anthony
April 16, 2011 at 09:44 #350510From the Racing Post.
"The newspaper report named none of the five jockeys it believes are involved in the BHA investigation, rumours of which have been rife within the racing community for several days".
I think Anthony and Phil, despite your assertions about the NOTW, it would appear that they are on to something as the BHA are already investigating.
This however is what is wrong with racing and until there is a radical overview will never change.
I was not aware of the rumours circulating in the racing fraternity as I am just a punter who follows racing. I have read nothing about this scandal which is going to break, however the "racing community" were.
My point being that the "racing community" are well aware of who these 5 jockeys as are as is the BHA and I may well be backing a horse that they are riding. Personally I would never back anyone under investigation and so I may well be at a disadvantage.
If these are found guilty they should be banned for life, however as we have seen before that will not happen.
And so it will continue.
April 16, 2011 at 11:00 #350520Agreed , life bans are the only deterrent , and that includes Trainers as well
then see how many turn up for your 1500 quid races …ha ha
Corrupt it certainly is
Ricky
April 16, 2011 at 11:07 #350523Not only have some found them guilty before any investigation, they are apparently guilty before anyone sees what is alledged!
Priceless.

Value Is EverythingApril 16, 2011 at 11:19 #350525My guess would be that a couple of the bigger name jockeys who have been riding around Wolverhampton,Lingfield etc. this winter, when they could have been racing for better money abroad are involved.
April 16, 2011 at 11:20 #350527Be very sceptical of what you read in the
News of The Screws
. One of the jockeys rumoured to be under investigation has only had the prefix ‘Betfair’ added to his first name, in common parlance, for several years now.
Does anyone seriously believe that The Rabble would move that swiftly to investigate?
No, I expect any talk of an investigation is made up nonsense and I wouldn’t be surprised if Scotney sues.
April 16, 2011 at 11:57 #350536Whats the odds that this will all centre around handicap racing on the all weather. Its generally absolute dross being run for pathetic prizemoney and acts solely to line the pockets of the bookmakers.
The timing of this however could hardly be worse for the racing industry after the National furore. This needs to be investigated properly by tha authorities / police (if appropriate), and IF there are guilty parties then justice just doesn’t need to be done but also be seen to be done.
If examples are made of guilty parties then racing can use this as an opportunity to turn a negative into a positive. There must be life bans for trainers and jockeys and no fudging over the issue e.g. allowing other parties to front for training operationsApril 16, 2011 at 12:21 #350542

I agree with Coggy.
The fact that the News Of The World are breaking it is irrelevant. They look squeaky clean compared to the racing industry.
Bans for all please, time for feet to be put down.
April 16, 2011 at 13:38 #350554I bet it’s not race fixing on the all weather y’know.
News Corporation aren’t going to put effort into an investigation if the story ends up being, ‘races fixed at Southwell’ because the response from the public is likely to be ‘where?’
No, it’s going to end up being somewhere like Ascot or Epsom (one of the lesser meetings though, hardly the Derby) just below the top level but not so far away that there isn’t the connection.
Not that I really know, if you ever catch me buying a copy of NOTW or The Sun then feel free to shoot me.

Yep, +1 for this man. NotW are an effing disgrace, they cannot talk about corruption from a morally high position whilst they act like the law doesn’t apply to them. I’ll read the story elsewhere thanks Rupert.
April 16, 2011 at 13:54 #350557The NOTW obtained information illegally via phone taps , that much is true but the information obtained wasn’t false. I don’t see how something the NOTW prints can be discounted based on this. There is nothing to suggest that the info will be false – quite the opposite . They may have used immoral and illegal methods but they have certainly eliminated all the guesswork. Wolverhampton mafia , trainers and jockeys alike , WATCH OUT . We all know who you are , maybe the news of the screws do too .

For a race to be ‘fixed’ all of the jockeys, and probably most of the trainers, would have to be in collusion, and each one risking their entire future in the game.
It’s just too daft to even consider.April 16, 2011 at 19:05 #350616Reet Hard
Where money is involved nothing is impossibe or improbable.
