Any idea what the thinking is to get rid of the cut-away rail?
May 4, 2019 at 22:31 #1431263Presumably it was something to do with the number of runners, Chestnut. Although can’t see that 19 would’ve been too many even with a cut-away. Certainly backfired. Had there been one, the course would be narrower and front runners closer together. They seem to race more in one group when it’s there and still gives room for those trapped to get out. Last time they didn’t have one was Kingman/Night Of Thunder/Australia when they split.
Way back when Six Perfections got stuck on the rail in the 1000, having to come around the whole field to just miss out… I e-mailed the Clerk asking for a cut-away. Thought he’d listened.
Value Is EverythingMay 4, 2019 at 23:30 #1431273They seemed to think all the horses would race down the middle of the course…well horses have other ideas, it was a messy looking race. Can you try writing another letter Ginge..

Another bright spark has decided it would be a good idea to demolish the lovely hedge around the entire area of the parade ring and replace it with plastic rail and criss cross plastic netting below, about 2 foot in front of the rail around the parade ring is another rail, health and safety in overdrive
that perfectly blots out the number of the horse on the handlers arm and also today the name of the horse that was written on the saddlecloth, you had to bob up and down each time a horse went past to read it… must have looked like a mexican wave.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 5, 2019 at 13:46 #1431376Just listened to Michael Prosser and tbh what he’s saying made sense. When making the decision of where the rail would be there were 24 entries with probability of well over 20 runners. In that case had they put a cut away on the stand rail it would’ve been unfair on far side runners. ie Had horses split in to two groups those trapped in behind on the stand side could get out; those trapped on the far side can not.
Sounds as though if fewer runners in future Guineas races the cut-away will be back, Jac.
Value Is EverythingMay 6, 2019 at 00:10 #1431919If that was logical they could put a cutaway on both sides.
May 6, 2019 at 14:39 #1432607Not with 24 runners, Robert.
