Genius Which it seems u are. One question, i have a dabble, and even opened up a betfair account as they seemed to offer better odds on certain races, my question is this tho, laying horses, if the horse wins can i only lose a certain amount, or can i be hit for a bundle
Hi there
Betfair I feel do offer the best odds, and in answer to your question, you can only lose a certain amount if the horse wins when you have laid it.
This will be displayed when you enter your stake in the "lay box" It will show you your liability. For example, i’ve just placed a lay bet for 4.2 and therefore my liability at £100 stake = £320
So basically whatever the odds are, just deduct it one point down…. so 4.2 is 3.2 times your stake.
5.4 would be 4.4 times your stake.
Hope this is clear?! (it’s getting late!) Any more questions, feel free to ask

November 25, 2010 at 20:02 #329891I don’t know what I was doing wrong but when I went to betfair I couldn’t even find the race, went to other sites to make sure the time date horse etc was right, i notice FIST never puts times and courses for his selections. And being new to laying thought i had got it wrong, was I looking at the wrong page. Any ?
As th ehorse was pu, does that count as a win?
November 25, 2010 at 22:13 #329914Hi all
No Selection for tomorrow unfortunately. Seems to be a very quiet week.
In response to your question berko, when you click "horseracing" on betfair, on the menu on the left hand side, you will see which country to click on, ie: "GB" "IRE" etc and all the races are listed there.
In answer to your question if PU means that we won, yes it does

November 28, 2010 at 10:25 #330271Hi All
Selection for today is:
5.20 – Kempton(A.W) – Delaware Dancer – LAY
The price is rather static at the moment at around 6.8 and we never lay above 4.8 at the max, so unless the price drops, we can’t bet as of yet.
Feel free to place an unmatched bet at 4.7/4.8 and see if it gets matched. That’s what I’ve done!

EdwardNovember 29, 2010 at 15:51 #330409Edward (or Lewis for that matter)
A couple of questions re. Sunday’s selection……..
5.20 – Kempton(A.W) – Delaware Dancer – LAY
1. Out of interest, at precisely what time of the day did your bet get matched?
2. Was your £100 lay matched at 4.7 or 4.8?
Thanks in advance.
November 29, 2010 at 17:02 #330412Hi Discretedata
I admit I was a little naughty and did set it for 4.8 instead of the max of 4.7. However, this is a risk based approach, so when I say a max of 4.7 it can be around about that figure. It depends on your risk approach as an individual.
Im not sure at what time exactly it was matched, and as I said I’m not sure even how this happened myself as the charts showed it didn’t move from around 6-7 as it was quite a static horse. I dont sit around and watch the screens all day, just place the bet (either matched or unmatched) then check later in the evening to see if the horse won for me or not.
Hope this helps

Edward,i wont call you Genius just yet!
A lot of people reading this post will be suspicious of just how true the above actually is. If the Betfair Charts are 100% accurate then the horse never did get laid at your price!
However i can assure you that i spend an awful lot of time watching in running betting and i see some amazing prices flashing up briefly, sometimes for only a second,a recent example was watching last weeks Hennessey! Diamond Harry was solid at 8"s on the machine before the off, after he jumped the first he goes 4"s,thats after 1 fence! He remains solid at the price all the way round,Denman went to 4"s 7 out and all the way down the straight the pair of them were virtually joint favs at 3"s. jumping the 3rd last though Diamond touched 12"s for the briefest of moments, now i dont know if that was matched or not but straight away he goes 2"s which is actually Even money approaching the last he"s 1/5 and i could have hit the lay button there and then to guarantee me a healthy profit but me being a Genius!
was confident in my horse! The rest as they say is history but i will certainly give you the benefit of the doubt about the price you laid yours at! Keep up the good work! For what its worth i only bet in running at 2"s and less, anyone who lays at double figures is commiting financial suicide!December 1, 2010 at 19:06 #330729Hi Ante
Thanks for the comment. I know what you mean about the charts and that’s why I couldn’t figure it out myself as, like I said in my previous post I dont sit and watch the screen all day and according to the chart the price didn’t go below around 6-7.
However, it could be as you said and most probably that I got matched at those odds by chance and was therefore quite lucky!
However, whilst the internet is a brilliant place for making wild claims( think of all those dodgy racing systems out there!), I can assure you I would simply say if it hadn’t been matched!
Just as I have stated when there are no selections rather than just randomly picking a horse just to save "face".
Personally, I would never lay above 5, maybe 5.2, something like that as I feel that your morale can be kicked in the guts when you think that you have to win another 7/8/9 bets just to recoup a loss that you made by a horse winning a race you laid at ridiculous odds.
Hope that helps!
It’s not looking like there are any selections for tomorrow but still looking at the moment. It’s like the whole country has come to a standstill now!
Edward
