Truss is the nightmare result for the country for the next two years but the dream result for Labour come the 2024 Election – she’s thick as mince, and as right wing as they come in the Tory Party.
And it might happen.
Tungendhat’s toast, Badenoch has had a good run, but needed a massive break through in the debates and didn’t get it, and Braverman has endorsed Truss, which doesn’t help the MP for Saffron Walden.
The Tory media attack on Mordaunt has been horrific – right up there with their treatment of Corbyn.
I’ve never seen the Tory press attack a Tory like this, not even Johnson on his darkest days.
She hasn’t really shone in the debates either, apart from her closing statements – that kind of unchallenged oratory and one-on-one interviews work best for her.
It could be Sunak v Truss.
You think that would be a definite win for Sunak, but none of the polls of Party members so far suggest this.
Truss had a slight edge on him in the last one.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 18, 2022 at 12:08 #1607519Been looking into the Badenoch surname
Kemi’s husband is Hamish Badenoch, a banker, who appears to be of Northern Irish and Scottish descent
Somewhat intriguingly, one Alec Badenoch (relative?) was an eminent Scottish surgeon who performed an operation on Harold MacMillan
The ‘Wolf of Badenoch’ was Alexander Stewart, 1st Earl of Buchan (1343-1405)
The title ‘Lord of Badenoch’ still exists and is currently held by the Marquess of Huntly
Badenoch is a district in the Scottish Highlands around the towns of Kingussie and Dalwhinnie
Fascinating, I hope you agree
July 18, 2022 at 12:12 #16075202.04 Sunak, 3.2 Truss, 5.6 Mordaunt, 22 Badenoch, 200 Tungendhat – Mordaunt still drifting like the proverbial.

As for corbyn. If it was so bad does anyone here recall (without looking up) the coverage of his long term association and support for Paul Eisen? And what that was about?
Did his extreme left wing advisors who are strongly and openly opposed to human rights and freedoms get sufficient scrutiny?
Pat McFadden had it right when describing this truly disgusting foul individual
July 18, 2022 at 12:27 #1607524Tories now cancelling and deplatforming themselves. What a ****show.
July 18, 2022 at 12:31 #1607526Not really richard
Three Debates was too much anyway and no one is going to remember this.

It’s quite incredible, Richard.
And they are being open as to why – they don’t like their divisions being laid bare.
No denial the divisions exist.
In the same way the removal of Saddam Hussain left a power vacuum in Iraq, Johnson’s departure has left the most unsightly scramble for power here.
Johnson’s Cabinets were appointed based on: devotion to Brexit, devotion to Johnson himself, and lack of calibre to challenge him.
All new PMs change the composition of their Cabinet, but this one might see a near 100% clear out.
I’ve never seen anything quite like this in British politics.
Sunak and Truss (likely to snap up Braverman votes) may feel they’ve got the numbers now the media has done a hachet job on Mordaunt – they may feel they had little to gain and plenty to lose tomorrow night so they were happy to accede to requests from within the Party to cancel.
They could even have instigated it.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 18, 2022 at 12:42 #1607529Got to say, Although I am centre-right myself, when it came to Labour Party politics I wanted rid of Corbyn and the Corbynites. Seen as “unelectable” true, but only “seen as”. Always a possibility of him winning so I was delighted when Corbyn lost the Labour leadership; even if it gives Labour under Starmer a far better chance of winning a General Election.
Am surprised those claiming to be “centrist” want a Truss (right wing) victory. Actually wanting two years and a fair chance of 6 or more years of Truss. If truly Centrist it would surely be better for the country to be neither too Left or Right.
Value Is EverythingJuly 18, 2022 at 12:49 #1607531Lol. What utter crap here.
They are not appearing on a tv debate. One which is frankly one too much
And this is the equivalent of Suez.
Drone said this thread was entertaining and it certainly is. It’s satire
As for the Tory press the Mirror is screaming about Liz truss using “taxpayers” jet travel over the past year. Clearly they don’t know what her role is…
July 18, 2022 at 12:53 #1607532It’s like Iraq.
F***** hell!
Keep them coming
July 18, 2022 at 13:01 #1607534Agree about the debates. Why does there have to be another one? Don’t blame Sunak and Truss for saying enough.
They never used to happen anyway. I was not a great David Cameron fan but he was very astute in only taking part in one in 2015 and then not saying very much. Instead, he allowed all his opponents to fight amongst themselves and look a bit shrill.

Read the rest of the thread.
It’s Hobson’s Choice for any Labour voter who believes that, while Truss would inflict most damage on the country 2022/24, she’s the one who would be easiest to beat at the next Election.
I wouldn’t have blamed any Tory for wanting Corbyn as perpetual Labour leader if, that is, they really did consider him truly unelectable.

Personally I thought it was three too many.
July 18, 2022 at 13:27 #1607542Truss knows she’s a poor debater and believes she has the votes so does not want another debate putting her position at risk.
Value Is EverythingJuly 18, 2022 at 13:31 #1607543I agree with GT – she’s in third after the last vote, but could be the prime beneficiary of the Braverman vote and be second tonight.
Mordaunt rallying a bit in the market, but she’s heavily dependant on getting Tungendhat’s votes in the next round following today.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 18, 2022 at 13:34 #1607545Yes, a Truss win I’d welcome because, as things stand, it would give Labour their best chance at the next election; but in the short term it’s certainly Hobson’s Choice because a Truss government could cause any amount of damage to the country over the two years remaining
However I suspect (wish?) that an early election will be called – despite them all saying no – before the faeces really hit the fan; that is, before the energy and food price hikes and/or shortages during the looming, glowering winter
The grain harvest is early this year, underway already; let’s hope it’s a bountiful one
