I don’t think Kieren ever left Ballydoyle. According to the word, he has done a lot to bring horses on at the yard.
As was said above, it’s a business; they hired him for what he can do.When the ban is over, he’ll still be younger than Micky Joe, whom they were using last season.
Johhny M is a great guy and a very good jockey, but he’s had his problems too.
There will be room enough for all of them, imo.
Sean Rua.
January 30, 2008 at 10:25 #138875i’m glad Murtagh got the job one of my Fav jockeys hope he gets the standard of horses Fallon did……
January 30, 2008 at 10:47 #138882Does that mean he gets the rides on BJK and Refinement??? He, he!!
January 30, 2008 at 11:05 #138889Would have to disagree regarding Footstepsinthesand, i think his injury robbed us of a real star.
Not a great Guineas – extremely arguable. Horses decisively beaten down the Rowley that day –
Dubawi – Irish 2000G winner, Derby 3rd.
Oratorio – Eclispe winner, Irish Champion stakes winner (beating impressive Derby winner both times).
David Junior – Champion Stakes winner, subsequent multiple G1 winner in UK and abroad.Don’t think you can really quibble either the quality of the race, or say the hores was dragged to G1 status by Fallon.
January 30, 2008 at 11:43 #138898The effect Fallon has had on the stud fees of some horses has been astronomical. Dylan Thomas would have been at stud for €30,000 had he not won the Arc. The €20,000 increase in winning the Arc
So the narrow defeat of Youzmain was worth that was it? Great ride, but hardly great form for that level. DT’s value must surely be better judged on performances prior to that (and definately not subsequent..)
A lot of assumptions about Fallon’s return here. Its been fairly well leaked out of the PR gulag that is Ballydoyle that the relationship between AOB and KF has all but broken down and had been not so good for some time before all this blew up. That has to be a factor going forward
Comparing Spencers success with KF’s on the basis of the races won is nonsense.
January 30, 2008 at 12:00 #138905The form of the Arc race does not matter in terms of stud fee. The Arc win was a massive boost to his stud fee. But in saying that I see no reason why Murtagh couldn’t have won on the horse also.

exactly Fallon said it was the best horse he has ever sat on so if a horse is that good by his standards surly most Jock’s could have won on him??
January 30, 2008 at 12:17 #138912The correct choice in my opinion. I’m a big fan of Johnny Murtagh. I think him and Coolmore will prove a successful and lucrative combination.

I just never quite understand this. Do breeders only ever look at the headline form when spending huge sums on stud fees?
It suggests that they do less research than an slightly above average punter
January 30, 2008 at 12:47 #138926Thats a very interesting point.

Decisively beaten, yes, but those 3 horses either took a while to come to hand or were not able to perform on the road-like conditions that day, hence I don’t think the form can be advertised as you describe.
January 30, 2008 at 14:50 #138968Well put it this way. He contested a Group 1 every month from April to October, and was still winning them in Sept and Oct.
A model of consistency.
p.s. To say that any jockey would have won on Dylan Thomas in the Arc just because of Fallon’s comment is ridiculous. It’s like saying that Inglis Drever is the best stayer, so Paul Carberry could win on him.
Different jockeys suit different horses.
Fallon and Dylan Thomas were perfect together, just like McCoy and Brave Inca.
i know what you mean but a horse of that much class i think would win no matter who was on board, how many times have you heard a jockey say " if i got the leg up on some of his mounts i would do same job" great horses are destined for great things no matter who’s on board!!
January 30, 2008 at 14:58 #138972Probably not Salselon and point taken, but it is also probably a little unfair to dismiss Footsteps’ Guineas as below average on the premise all the best horses in behind hadn’t come to hand and / or didn’t like the conditions.
January 30, 2008 at 15:31 #138981I don’t remember dismissing the form in my post.
However, what does stick in my mind is FITS beat Rebel Rebel and Kandidate buy a couple of lengths.
January 30, 2008 at 16:27 #138995Differing interpretations lead to differing opinions. I wouldn’t agree or disagree and would ackowledge you have a point, although Footsteps’ was not exactly extended that day.
The negatives of the form were made by another a little earlier, thats where my comments came from.
