Think it is worse than evens Denman even getting there.
The Gold Cup Kauto Star won was not just slow it was very slow (for the conditions.
Looking at the first four home.
Kauto, Exotic, Turpins and Monker all had form at 2m4f. With the stayers nowhere.
If a 100m sprinter and 400m runner race at 400m, the 100m runner will probably win if they walk the first 300m.
I am speaking as someone who backed Kauto Star to win that race. As I thought he would stay beforehand. But subsequant races have changed my mind. Not saying he definately does not, just there is significant doubt in my mind.

Value Is EverythingOctober 13, 2008 at 21:52 #184655As far as I’m aware, Neptune Collonges will not run this side of Christmas. He is a part of the re-think after Denmans set back. He will be targeted at the Lexus, as Irish Stamp says, and then on to the Gold Cup. But his main aim this season is as the last two seasons, The Irish Punchestown Guinness Gold Cup. Nothing is ever written in stone in this game…and this is already plan "B" but all being well that’s the campaign.
thanks for that david.c
fist of fury, nowhere on my post did i use the gold cup form with kauto star as a reason to back neptune collonges in the king george, i thought that at 33/1 there was value as imo the horse is improving and has shown a liking for right handed tracks, and should he line up would be a single figure price, however, should someone not agree with you i really don’t feel they should pack in racing.
October 14, 2008 at 00:58 #184681If Kauto Star shows anything like his old form pre Xmas he will be odds on for the King George. Neptune isn’t even quoted for the King George with leading bookmakers so I take it the guys are right he will head for the Lexus.
Anyone who takes his form with Kauto Star in the Gold Cup seriously should pack in racing now IMO.
How many times have we seen horses like him run a big race like that then the form being ridiculed later? Monet Garden being a classic example.
Neptune is a good horse but he is no Kauto Star and never will be IMO.
>>>>>>no fof he is a cleaner jumper if nothing else lol..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 14, 2008 at 01:09 #184683yes neptune is set to have his first race will be the lexus chace in ireland, his main aim will be the punchestown gold cup, also doing the cheltenham goldcup along the way,we think he runs better in the second half of the year, hes in good order at present, and if the conditions are simular to this years goldcup he has every chance of beating kauto star, as for a fully fit denman i think the best we can hope for is a very good 2nd………………..
