Any thoughts on how this one will do at Punchestown on Wednesday?
April 20, 2008 at 13:25 #158888On his victory there last season, his run in the Gold Cup and the fact that he’s been allowed time to recover (maybe Kauto Star is suddenly third in the Ditcheat pecking order), nothing should get near him.
April 20, 2008 at 18:41 #158928Thanks, LGR.
I don’t suppose this will produce as much interest on this forum as did Kauto Star’s post- Cheltenham run.
April 20, 2008 at 18:53 #158931I can’t imagine it, Sean, but he’s a lovely horse nonetheless and the 13/8 on offer at present looks fair enough. Mossbank can be the only real challenger on anything achieved this season, but I’d still expect him to be held comfortably by Neptune Collonges (the fact that New Alco is close to third in the market speaks volumes).
April 20, 2008 at 19:09 #158937We shall see, I’m sure.
Whatever happens, I’ll not be starting threads full of excuses.
The Cheltenham run was very good.Who will ride, I wonder?
April 20, 2008 at 19:11 #158938Difficult to see past Neptune winning it again. Mossbank going right handed again on drying ground would be interesting at a big price.
April 20, 2008 at 19:23 #158944I can’t agree with LGR NC is far from being a god thing. He may well win but this race will put everything back into proportion and show how much of a fluke his gold cup run was. He’s not gping to have an easy time and it will expose him as being nothing special…..for me he wouldn’t live with Kauto Star or Denman when they are on song.
I much prefer the chance of Mossbank who ran a cracker behind Our Vic and Denman……..he will be much better suited by this distance than he was in the Ryanair.
NC will be very short and Mossbank could start at very generous odds and is much more likely to run up to his best form. I will have no hesitation backing him to turn NC over.
April 20, 2008 at 19:33 #158947I agree it looks between the 2 but I’m in the Neptune camp, though I’d want a bit bigger than 13/8 to have a bet. My worry about Mossbank is that his form seems to tail off every season after the Autumn: he’s never won after November and may need to be fresh to give his best.
April 20, 2008 at 19:36 #158948Who will ride, I wonder?
What, Neptune Collonges? I’d be surprised if Ruby wasn’t riding him, since he won on him last year. The only other horse I could feasibly see him riding is Pomme Tiepy, but I’d assume she’s more likely to line up in the novice chase. The rest of Willie Mullins’ entries are either unlikely runners or no hopers.
April 20, 2008 at 20:12 #158955Not agreeing with me, Fists, surely not

Mossbank has run well in defeat this season, there’s no denying that, but Neptune Collonges has improved on the previously smart handicap form he had shown and we know that he can win at Punchestown. He’ll go on any ground, is a sound jumper and has all the requisite qualities to retain his crown.
No, he isn’t anything special, but who said he was?
He is however a worthy favourite and by far the likeliest (comfortable) winner.

April 20, 2008 at 20:22 #158960oh alsofor everyone ruby is infact riding neptune as he always does unless he not there or on kato as funny enough fist but ruby thinks he is a very good horse but i presume you know better than ruby aswell do you????????????????? lol
April 20, 2008 at 20:24 #158961To be fair he was only offering an opinion, beckster, even if it is going to cost him a fortune when Mossbank doesn’t win. The point he makes about Neptune Collonges not touching Kauto Star or Denman is fairly pointless though, given that Mossbank wouldn’t either (and don’t try to convince me that Denman was ‘on song’ in the Lexus).
