Death Duty and Invitation Only entered here. I haven’t heard running plans but it would seem crazy to me to have the well supported favourites for the Neptune and Albert Bartlett facing off against each other. As I see it Invitation Only should be ideally suited by 2m4f and Death Duty by 3m. A stiff 2m4f isn’t obviously ideal for either of them, unless of course Mullins is seriously thinking of the Albert Bartlett for Invitation Only. I am hoping he gives this a swerve and looks for something more obviously suitable for a Neptune preparation around Christmas. If he was to give it a miss it wouldn’t surprise me if Monalee gave the favourite plenty of trouble. He was very slick on hurdling debut.
December 15, 2016 at 23:34 #1277312I’ve been very impressed by Monalee since we discussed him when he ran at The Punchestown Festival, and I think his last run suggested a lot more to come. I doubt I’ll have a bet on this on Sunday, regardless of the bigger names going, but if Monalee was a big price, I could be persuaded. Either way, I’ll be keeping him in mind for bigger prizes later in the season.
December 16, 2016 at 10:47 #1277342With the novices I try to restrict my bets to those where I would be fairly confident of the target. At this stage I wouldn’t be sure if Monalee would go Neptune or Albert Bartlett. My preference at this stage would be the longer race. I don’t think a faster surface would be a problem, in fact it would probably be an advantage. I have a nasty feeling that Death Duty might be exposed on quicker ground.
I have a very good record in the Albert Bartlett and a reasonable one in the Neptune. The Supreme on the other hand has long been my worst race of the Festival.
December 16, 2016 at 11:21 #1277344Well, they have all stood their ground so we are left with potentially the best novice hurdle outside of the Festivals. A race not to miss and likely to trigger a big ante-post shake-up.
December 16, 2016 at 12:43 #1277352Looks a cracker stilvi, and yeah, definitely the best Novice Hurdle we’ve seen so far this season.
December 17, 2016 at 18:48 #1277657THE GUY ON RACING UK SAID INVITATION ONLY IS CERTAIN TO GO FOR THE NEPTUNE. HE THINKS HE IS THE NEXT BEST THING
December 18, 2016 at 12:56 #1277750Death Duty won it easily.
I’m more curious if anyone here knows something more about Blow by Blow. A month ago I heared he was injured. Does anybody know whether he will be in action this season? He is the one responsible for the only defeat of Death Duty and Moon Racer.
December 18, 2016 at 13:05 #1277752There’s no chance Invitation Only ran to form there.
December 18, 2016 at 17:02 #1277813got to be something amiss with invitation only. he was beat a long way from home. forget that run. im not sure if death duty is as good as they all saying. i wanted a battle today and never got it. but he won well enough but was entitled to if the only other danger dont turn up. ide like to see monlee other 3 miles and see how he goes. just no gears to faster horses

I have flagged this up on the main section. If there was something wrong with the horse why didn’t he pull up, and if there wasn’t anything wrong why make so little effort? It appeared as if he was sitting and waiting for them to come back to him and considering the lack of pace that was never going to happen.
From a distance Invitation Only doesn’t exactly fill the eye. He will do well to bounce back from this setback.
December 20, 2016 at 15:52 #1277926Lol that’s a pessimistic view, it’s only one bad run!
