Always like an Antepost in this, and I’ll have an early one again this year. Hopefully he a better turnout this year too.
Gailard Du Mesnil is the obvious one, and supported again after reference to this target by Mullins during the week. It’s another from the yard though, in the same ownership, Ramillies, who I think might be overpriced. Looked a bit tapped for toe at times in The Albert Bartlett, but thought it a decent enough run. No news on him, and not mentioned much, but he’s the one I’ll take an early swing at.
I’d already bet Banbridge for this last season, but I cashed in all bar a couple of my Cheltenham Anteposts, so I could start again, and he was one of them. Still on my radar though, and very likely I’ll bet him Antepost too.
Call Me Lyreen is a proper notebook horse for me from last year once he seen a fence, and he remains so, even with the jumping issues. This was the race I had in mind for him, but perhaps a decent handicap might be the plan. Could even see him being a Brown Advisory horse too. Stablemate The Goffer I do like for this though, and I’ll definitely be keeping a watch on him for this.
Thedevilscoachman makes his debut over fences today, and this is a horse I really like. This could easily be considered for him if things go well over the larger obstacles, but he’ll have a ton of options. The same applies to Beauport today, though I’m considering him for The Brown Advisory. I think he’ll be a really decent chaser, and I’ll almost certainly bet him Antepost for something.
I really like The Goffer and Beauport, but with Banbridge getting bet at some point, no choice but to hold back just now…

Banbridge
Ramillies 50’s EWOctober 30, 2022 at 12:22 #1621010I’d have thought Banbridge was more of a Turners type – certainly didn’t look short of speed at Gowran Park earlier in the month.
Would be an intriguing target for him as he’s never won beyond 2m5f in four attempts.

October 31, 2022 at 01:05 #1621095Agree Ian about the Turners being an option for Banbridge, and definitely a factor in me not betting him for this yet.
Very happy with the winning starts today from Beauport and Thedevilscoachman, though no rush to add them off the back of that.
November 7, 2022 at 19:27 #1622173Banbridge entered for a 2m4f Novices’ Handicap Chase at Cheltenham on Friday AND the 2m Arkle Trial on Saturday.
CAS drew my attention to him LTO, made all, quickish time on Good ground over 2m4f, looks a Turners type to me, but never say never and I like to keep an open mind.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 11, 2022 at 17:16 #1622562Banbridge runs in the Arkle Trial. I did not really expect that. Nor did I expect to see him in this thread either!
I will back him tomorrow and hope he wins but I still think the Turners is the race for him.
Ruby Walsh gave him a good mention on the Road to Cheltenham on RTV last night.
November 11, 2022 at 18:17 #1622569I’m a bit worried and I’ve backed him for the Turners!
If I’d backed him for the NH Chase I’d be very worried!

I will probably just watch him tomorrow now but with mixed feelings. I would like to see him run well but my 20/1 for the Turners does not want him to win by too far!
November 12, 2022 at 07:36 #1622651I’d quite like Tommy’s Oscar to do him for foot at the end, actually!

December 5, 2022 at 11:28 #1625922Galliard Du Mesnil confirmed my thinking yesterday, Ante-post bet at 7/1 from earlier in the year will do for me.
December 5, 2022 at 12:16 #1625934Has a huge chance yogi
Hopefully Willie has a couple better for the BANC and he comes here
December 5, 2022 at 12:24 #1625935Agree FF, this is the year for GALLIARD over this 3:6 trip. Back in the day a good prep run for an extreme distance race in the future is a “blow the cobwebs away” over 2:4 ish. Yesterday’s Drinmore was a top race and was he staying on very nicely and that screams the NH Chase.
I will even be as bold to say Galliard will be around the Evens/slightly odds on mark come the day, huge chance
December 5, 2022 at 13:05 #1625943Rathvinden finished 2nd in the drinmore before winning this so hopefully GDM does the same
January 13, 2023 at 06:48 #1630722Added Chemical Energy 8-1
January 13, 2023 at 13:12 #1630741I’ve barely had any antepost bets this year as the market has been pretty disgraceful since last March. Most horses will be bigger on the day than they were several months before.
One i did bet early was Gaillard Du Mesnil for this race at 16s. It’s becoming an increasing concern for me that he is more likely to go for the BANC as the 3 mile division looks poor this year. If i were to bet on this race now it would be his stablemate, also owned by the Donnelly’s, Ramillies. He is tailor made for this sort of race and is looking more likely than GDM at this stage.
