    My Murphy-2006 g Presenting (Liam Burke) 31- (rated 88)

    31st October 2011: Wexford 1.40pm 5yo+ 2m2f maiden hurdle 11-04 D Russell (soft)

€16,000 F (not sold £16,000 3yo and £9,500 3yo); sixth foal; brother to 2001 mare, Fruits De Mer, placed bumpers/2m2f hurdle for John Fowler; dam, Fine De Claire (1993 Teenoso mare) bumper winner, placed 2m1f/2m4f hurdles for John Fowler, half-sister to four-time bumper/hurdle winners Dusty Too-1998 Terimon mare (over 2m2f/2m5f for Amanda Perrett) and three-time winner Wright-1995 Broadsword g (won over 2m4f/2m6f for EJ O’Grady). Owner Simon Tindall associated with many of the above winners.

Won a Ballynoe 5yo maiden last April by a neck on good-yielding ground but there hasn’t been much to enthuse about amongst the horses to race from this race since.

The booking of Davy Russell is certainly a plus but the trainer, although he trained a winner in early October has yet to really fire this season. He has been steady at 8/1 all morning but I am not quite enthused over him until I see him run. I principally come to this conclusion from current trainer form and lack of collateral evidence from his slowly-run maiden win.

    ******************************************************************

My each-way recommendations for Barrakilla & Mount Colah both paid off although neither was ever going to win. Yet yet again a slowly run bumper saw a point winner (Barrakilla by Milan) outsprinted by a Sheikh Mo horse that, at one stage, was bound for Andre Fabre. Nonetheless a very encouraging run.

The money for Don Cossack in the Naas bumper was inspired and he won in the style of a very good horse. Mount Colad didn’t do a lot wrong and is one for the future.

The Martin horse, Benefficient, was weak in the on-course market and ran accordingly.

    ******************************************************************

Big winner missed again yesterday and it didn’t improve my mood following Shake The Bucket but, unsurprisingly, family comes before punting on bank holiday weekends.

    ******************************************************************

P.S. If anyone is interested in my 2011/12 research on winning pointers email me at the address below and I will reply shortly with my musings.

Yes Way Hosay-2006 g Moscow Society (Roy Wilson) 31- (rated 91)

    Wexford 4.25pm 5-7yo 2m bumper 12-00 Mr C Cully (7)

Evidently quite well fancied today this fellow was an impressive winner of a Limavady maiden in April. He was visually very impressive coming home 15L clear-the second, Ballywatt, joined Kim Bailey for £16,000 while Sparville, a faller at the fifth, was recently 3rd in a Clonmel bumper (his only subsequent start) giving the race some strength.

Expectations were great at the May sale in Doncaster but he failed to change hands when led out unsold at £140,000.

Pedigree wise, he is the seventh foal dam of an unraced Yashgan half-sister to useful 2m4f-3m hurdle/chase winner Minister For Fun (EJ O’Grady). He is a half-brother to point winners Ashfield Present (also won 2m6f hunter chase), Forsomeonelikeyou and Rock Captain who probably were a little disappointing as track performers.

No less than four completely unexposed Irish point-to-point winners from last season make their hurdling debuts at Exeter today in a must-watch race. The “Nicholls Factor” will mean that Rocky Creek starts at 2/1 or less. Anything better would be a tempting betting proposition. The forecast going is good which would not be the perfect jumping conditions for these future chasers. Of the sextet mentioned, perhaps Allthekingshorses will be less inconvenienced by the ground.

    1st November: Exeter 1.50pm 4+ 2m5f110yds novices’ hurdle

    Camas Bridge-2006 g Alflora (Emma Lavelle) 24- (rated 86) 10-12 Jack Doyle

Second in a good maiden at Castletown-Geoghegan (soft) last October Camas Bridge was trained by Pat Doyle for the well-known former showjumper Tommy Wade. Wade used to train pointers himself successfully in the past but he now forms a potent partnership with Pat Doyle-the nursery of choice for many of Gigginstown’s tyros. In fact, already in the new season Doyle and Wade have produced a very impressive King’s Theatre 5yo maiden winner at Loughrea.

This has been a good maiden as the winner, Trustan Times, looks very promising for Tim Easterby and there were two further maiden winners behind in Watford and Marble House (I am particularly keen on this horse and expect him to collect a handicap chase soon at big odds).

Camas Bridge cost Lime Tree Stud €27,000 as a foal before joining Lavelle in a private sale. He’s the fourth foal and a brother to 2m hurdle and 2m1f chase winner Dean´s Grange (2005 g) for Colin Tizzard; dam (1999 Bob’s Return) unraced half-sister to smart bumper/hurdle/chase winner up to 2m5f Major Rumpus (Arthur Moore) and three other multiple winners, family of Morley Street and Granville Again. Good page!

He’s had one spin in a Fontell bumper (19f-soft) last February and was expected to finish better than 21L fourth as he started at 85/40F. He ran as if he needed the run and the RP racereader was very complimentary about him. (No doubt a slow early pace was also a factor.) Two things are notable about this race: firstly, the winner, Destroyer Deployed, ran a brilliant second in the Cheltenham bumper and, secondly, of those horses that have subsequently jumped hurdles or fences they have been largely disappointing-this isn’t something of concern to me given Camas Bridge’s point run.

It looks a very strong contest and my guess is that it might be another day for Camas Bridge.

    Lovcen-2005 g Tiger Hill (Alan King) 21- (rated 89) 10-12 Robert Thornton

First foal; dam (2000 Grand Lodge) unraced half-sister to several winners Flat/jumps including useful French hurdler/chaser up to 2m5f Tell No One, 2m5f-3m hurdle winner Loom and German 7f/1m 2yo winner Last Rebel. As he is German-bred one wonders how he’s ended up between the flags in Ireland.

He was an excellent second on his pointing debut last February but was more impressive on his second start when scoring in a Horse & Jockey 5&6yo maiden. Trained by Mags Mullins plans to run this “improver” in a bumper were shelved when he joined King’s yard.
“We might go for the point to point bumper at Fairyhouse next. He’s an improving type, we don’t have him that long only have him about six months. He got a lovely ride from his jockey”, said Mullins afterwards.

A recent comment from King: A German-bred horse who came to us after winning an Irish point-to-point last March. He is very likeable and has summered well. He is not flash in any way but does the job and I would like to start him off over 2m4f in novice hurdles. We will look to step him up in trip later on.

    Allthekingshorses-2006 g King’s Theatre (P Hobbs) 10-12 R Johnson

€17,000 F TI, €28,000 Y TI; third foal; brother to bumper/2m5f hurdle winner Full Of Joy (2005 g) for Jonjo/JP, half-brother to modest point/2m7f chase winner George Travis (2002g Supreme Leader) for Enda Bolger/JP; unraced dam (1996 Montelimar) half-sister to bumper/hurdle/chase winner up to 2m7f Martinstown (C Roche/JP), family of Galmoy & Direct Route. As McManus is fond of the family this seems to be one that got away!

Colin Bowe produced Allthekingshorses to win a Lingstown maiden on his only start last March and is now with Philip Hobbs. A family full of stayers it will be interesting to monitor his progress. The second-placed horse made £65,000 at the Brightwells April Sale.

The five-year-old gelding’s maiden was won by Colin Bowe’s newcomer Allthekingshorses which showed all the right qualities under Barry O’Neill to see off what looked a competitive field. Bound for the sales, this son of Kings Theatre looks an attractive sort which should be well capable of progressing.

Recent stable comment: Winning Irish point-to-pointer who is about three weeks off a run. I haven’t decided where he’ll start, either in a bumper or a 2m4f novice hurdle.

Rocky Creek-2006 g Dr Massini (Paul Nicholls) 10-12 R Walsh

(not sold £14,000 3yo); fifth foal; brother to smart but ill-fated 2m5f-3m hurdle/chase winner Tell Massini (2004 g and winner of 4 races for Tom George) and Lord Lumey (2001 Lord Americo g)-very promising second on only two starts in bumpers for Noel Meade; dam unplaced in Irish bumper for Ger Lyons, half-sister to fair 2m hurdler Explain This (92 Hatim g) for Charlie Mann and fair chaser Sam Vaughan (stayed 2m4f) for Eugene O’Sullivan.

Winner of his only start at Carrigtwohill last February he grabbed all the headlines with the style of his victory and his trainer Michael Griffin said: He’s always looked the part and he went better than well under Davy Russell in a recent schooling bumper at Thurles. Judged by many to be one of the most promising pointers seen out in 2010/11 season.

Quote: “The newcomer Rocky Creek, Tell Massini’s own-brother, went to post with a tall reputation in the five-year-old geldings’ maiden. Michael Griffin’s homebred travelled exceptionally well for Derek O’Connor and he asserted on the run to the last to repel Paul Barber’s first-timer Rolling Aces with the minimum of fuss. The form of the race is given a boost by the fact that Bar De Ligne, who was travelling exceptionally well when unseating two out on his debut at Leadington, finished a soundly-beaten third. With this undoubtedly being one of the best performances of the season so far, the likelihood is that the giant-sized Rocky Creek won’t be in the ownership of trainer Griffin’s brother Colm for much longer.”

    Quayside Court and Ballyallia Man

Ballyallia Man is owned by John Costello, brother of the late Tom Costello. "This horse is still big and backward and he will make a hell of a three-mile chaser. I suppose that he will be probably sold now, "said Mangan of the Flemensfirth-sired Ballyallia Man that traces back to Danny Harold and Golden Freeze.
are also likely future winners from the 2009/10 points season and making belated debuts in the UK.

A good day yesterday with My Murphy (9/1), Yes Way Hosay (7/2) and, recent nominee Best Served Cold (13/8) all obliging.

    It took

    Fernhurst Lad

four attempts to break his duck between the flags but scored at Dromohane (good) at almost this time last year ("I thought that he would have won a long time ago” his trainer, Debbie Hartnett, said afterwards) and then followed up in winners’ of one at Nenagh (heavy) in January by a very comfortable twenty lengths.

Six winners emerged from his maiden win including the maiden hurdle winner Friendly Society.

Connections were keen to run him in a bumper after his maiden win but a combination of balloting and frost stymied that plan so the winners’ route was chosen instead. Hartnett declared: “This is a super horse to have in the yard and he should do really well when going over fences. I may look for a maiden hurdle now.”

True to her words Fernhurst Lad ran in a Clonmel (heavy) 2m4f maiden hurdle just 25 days later and galloped over his rivals throughout to win going away by two lengths at a tasty 10/1.
The trainer was extremely voluble in the winners’ enclosure afterwards: "He’s so easy to train you wouldn’t even know he’s in the yard. He’s won two point-to-points and today’s win was like winning the Grand National for us. Hurdling is not his forte but we thought he’d be good enough to win a maiden hurdle. He was green throughout but the pace was much quicker than in his point-to-points. We’ll go for a winners’ hurdle but he’s an out-and-out chaser without a doubt. He’s only six though and we don’t want to push him. He’ll get three miles and this is his ground. He’s improving."
Three winners emerged here: 4th won a chase, 5th won two hurdles including a handicap off 109 and 6th win three hurdles-highest rating 123 giving it a very solid foundation.
His only subsequent run came in a 2m4f novices’ hurdle at Limerick (soft-heavy) where he finished 30L 10th of 16 behind Philip Fenton’s nice horse Last Instalment. This was a fairly serious step up in class although his final finishing position was a little disappointing. Plans to run over 3m a few weeks later came to nothing with the approach of summer and firm ground.
No less than six horses have won races since including Last Instalment, The Real Article and wins for the horses that finished 11th and 14th.

    3rd November: Thurles (soft) 2.25pm 4yo+ 2m beginners’ chase 11-12 M.J.O’Connor

I am almost disappointed to see this horse running over such a short trip today. With Mikey O’Connor, who has ridden him to all three successes, back on board (the horse was ridden by Shay Barry at Limerick) you could easily fancy this fellow to surprise some fancied rivals today.
Fernhurst Lad was Hartnett’s last winner on the track but I don’t get too concerned about this as she has so few track runners.

A race to monitor closely before and during proceedings.

Finnegan Paddy-2006 g Moscow Society (Tim Vaughan)

    4-Nov Fontwell (soft) 1.20pm 4yo+ 2m4f cond. Jockeys novices’ hurdle 10-12 Michael Byrne (6)

This horse was recently beaten favourite on his first start in the UK in a maiden bumper at Plumpton. He was running on ground he had never encountered before, had only two rivals to beat, started at 2/9 (!!!!) and Richard Johnson definitely didn’t excel on him. (Neither of his two opponents have run since)

Prior to this he had won a Monksgrange (y-s) maiden quite impressively last April having ran second to Handy Andy in a Nenagh (heavy) maiden in January trained by David Harry Kelly.

His Nenagh conqueror has already won a novices’ hurdle for Colin Tizzard whilst the maiden he won has only produced a single maiden winner.

Pedigree-wise he is first foal of an unraced dam who is a half-sister to seven-time winning useful staying chaser Flashthecash, family of smart jumper Vic Venturi.

He was led out unsold at £24,000 at Brightwells in April and has since joined Tim Vaughan.

    From Vaughan’s website:

Finnegan Paddy 5yo gelding Moscow Society – Holy Easter (PersianMews)

Certainly bred for this game, being out of a half-sister to five National Hunt winners, including the smart staying chaser Flashthecash (wins include the Listed Kingmaker Novice Chase at Warwick), and from the family of high-class multiple winners On The Net and Vic Venturi.

His form strongly suggests he will be able to maintain the family tradition of winning a bumper and novice hurdle before going chasing; four runs in Irish points have included an easy win on his latest start, and he looked certain to place when falling two starts previously, a race that has worked out particularly well with the winner bolting up in a bumper on his rules debut, and the second winning by five lengths next time out.

In between those two runs, he finished a three-length runner-up to Handy Andy, who next time out ran to an RPR of 130 when winning his novice hurdle, and was sent off just 11-1 for the Grade 1 Sefton (we all know what happened there!) at Aintree.

A lovely, big old-fashioned chasing type, he is likely to want some cut in the ground and is a really exciting prospect for next season.

Assuming that the race-reader was correct in his view that Finnegan Paddy should be a bumper winner by now one can expect to see him run a big race tomorrow in what looks a weakfish field. The likely favourite, Trop Fort, has a reputation but was beaten 134L on his latest start!

Gorey Lane-2006 Oscar g (John Norton)

    4-Nov Hexham (good-soft) 3.10pm 4yo+ 2m4f110yds novices’ hurdle 10-12 Mark Bradburne

Pedigree: €15,000 F TI, £12,000 Don May 2011 J Norton; fourth foal; closely related to UK point winner Mick´s Prospect (2003 Accordion g) also placed in a hurdle for Tim Vaughan, half-brother to three-time 2m4f/2m5f chase winner Apocalozzo (2002 Michelozzog) for Tim Vaughan; dam unraced half-sister to C Swan’s 2m hurdle winner Mrs Fairplay (1997 Shardari mare).

Gorey Lane gave Waterford-based David Nolan his first ever winner when collecting a maiden at Killeagh (y-s) last January. Although it was a slowly run affair five horses won their maidens afterwards including Traffic Article who won a Tipperary bumper for Robert Tyner. Gorey Lane disappointed in a winners event on good ground afterwards.

Given what we know about his maiden win and the fact that John Norton picked him up cheaply at just £12,000 he was allowed to go off at a monstrous price of 66/1 on his only start under rules in a Carlisle class 6 bumper (good) last month. He finished a decent 6L second to Cross Of Honour. It was undoubtedly a nice run in a weak race.
He makes his hurdling debut tomorrow and, being from such an unfashionable stable, is most likely to be value until his “true” ability is apparent to punters. It’s over 18 months since Norton enjoyed a winner on the track but Gorey Lane may rectify that, if not tomorrow, in time. I think its all about his price tomorrow.

Some fantastic prospects running today. I’ll be surprised if its not a bumper day for results.

    Baldadash-2005 g Beneficial (P Colville) 331- (rated 87)
€55,000 4yo Goffs G.H. Bloodstock; eighth foal; brother to N.Twiston- Davies’ fair 2m1f-3m hurdle/chase winner Its Crucial (2000 g), Tramore May 2008 2m hurdle winner Daytona Lily (2002 m)-Mrs. J Harrington and Celtic Wish (2003 g), placed 5 times over hurdles (2m-2m3f) for G Mullins; dam, Balda Girl (1991 Mandalus) unraced half-sister to modest 2m4f/2m6f chase winner Native Ray (Noreen Hayes), out of 2m4f chase winner Narcone (1981).

Third in two maidens in late 2010 (the second of these saw Mountainous finish second-and later second in a Ffos Las bumper for Richard Lee) , Baldadash was the winner of an Askeaton (soft-heavy) maiden by 6 lengths last February for PJ Colville (former amateur rider and Ballydoyle assistant) he was quoted afterwards: “He’s a lovely horse. I own him myself so he’ll probably go to the Tattersalls Sale. He did it impressively and I think he a Welsh National horse in the making, he loves the soft ground. Gerry Hogan bought him for me at the Landrover Sale (for €55,000!).” The second horse, Fear Breaga, joined Anna Newton Smith in the UK and has shown a little form in a bumper (3rd) and hurdle (4th).
He was subsequently bought by George Baker for £30,000 at the Doncaster Sales last March-a disappointing return on investment.

    5-Nov Wincanton (good-soft) 3.55pm 4-6yo 2m bumper 11-04 Paul Moloney

Colville’s forecast about this horse’s future as a decent staying chaser would hardly suggest he is bumper material. Of his five siblings to race on the track all contested at least one bumper but none managed to place.

    Previously posted (26-Oct):
Also due to line up in this maiden hurdle is:

    26th October 2011: Punchestown 3.55pm 2m 4+ maiden hurdle

    Definite Knockoff-2006 g Definite Article (Sean Thomas Doyle) 11-12 S W Jackson

A fifth (living) foal (and the first to make it to the races) he cost current connections just €6,000 in 2009 at the Landrover. Having won his point maiden on his second start last October however, he was withdrawn from the Brightwells Sale that November. Out of an unraced Aristocracy dam who is a half-sister to five winners of thirty four races-a very prolific winning family with plenty of stamina.

When he won his maiden as a 4yo his trainer stated: “He’s a really good four-year-old, we bought him in Goffs. He had one run for us last season and he’s really strengthened up this year. He’ll go to the Brightwells sale in November.”

The second and fouth won maiden points with The Baler winning a hunter chase and Kilrush (5th) running well when second in a modest hurdle at Downpatrick.

Definite Knockoff had one previous start at Punchestown over hurdles (2m y/s) and finished a poor enough 76L 14th/24 at 33/1 (never a factor). I expect him to improve over time. The trainer runs few enough on the track but Get in There won two hurdles for him earlier this year having been placed second in a point and successfully handicapped over hurdles. She won first off 83 and is now rated 101 so we can conclude the trainer knows his onions!

    5-Nov Down Royal (soft) 12.45pm 4-6yo 2m maiden hurdle 11-04 (S Jackson)

Hope to see him continue his education today and is on target for a winning mark if he has the ability.
    Previously posted (Drumlister):
    Drumlister (Arthur Moore) – previously mentioned 16/9 18:21 & 21/9 10:05

    6th October 2011: Tramore (yielding) 3.45pm 2m 4yo+ Beginners’ Chase (Alan Crowe)

Arthur Moore stated recently in a stable review that this son of Luso had been disappointing over hurdles and that he would be tried shortly over fences. The day has arrived quicker than I might have expected. (My suspicious nature detected an effort to keep the profile very low!).

A friend, in responding to my original bulletin on this horse, suggested that Luso’s had tended to be very disappointing relative to original high expectations (and cost) and that they were " big and slow" and mostly likely to need a distance and winter ground. He also believes that anything more than two efforts on the point-to-point scene puts the horse in a less than stellar category and is also quite tough on younger horses. He wasn’t confident this fellow could ever win but we’ll see now that Drumlister tries the bigger obstacles. At 66/1 this morning not much is expected over too short a trip and a much to prove.
    Result: Well beaten at 50/1.
    5-Nov Down Royal 1.20pm 4yo+ 2m6f handicap hurdle (80-102) 10-09 D Casey
Dropped to a mark of 85 (from 88) for his second foray into handicaps, at 14/1 in early markets, bookmakers are taking no chances. There was definitely some market interest in him on Betfair when last at Ballinrobe. He obviously has a lot to prove and I will watch the market with some interest today.
    Handy Andy-2006 g Beneficial (D E Prendergast) unraced (Rated 85)
€19,000 ylg Goffs (Mount Eaton) €30,000 3yo (K Ross Bloodstock), £115,000 Cheltenham Jan 2011 (Tom Malone); fourth foal; half-brother to dual-bumper/2m4f-2m6f hurdle(3)/chase(1)winner Corkage (2003 g Second Empire) for Pam Sly & Lucinda Russell and Italian 7f/1m winner Talitha; dam, Maslam (1998 Robellino) unraced half-sister to useful Flat/jumper Masalarian (1995 Doyoun) for Arthur Moore, is grand-daughter of French 1,000 winner Masarika. Aga Khan family.
Collected division two of the 5yo maiden at Nenagh last January for J.D. Moore and Denis Prendergast of Silver Fort Stud which is owned by Terry Ryan. Prendergast said: “I’ve loved this horse from the day I broke him. He’s very good & I hope he’s not sold as I’d love to go for a bumper with him.” The connections are having a glorious pointing season now being responsible for Handy Andy, No Loose Change and Dramatic Duke.
When you read this ten months after his sole point run it makes you wince to realise he started at 11/1 on his first start in a 2m5f novices’ hurdle at Newbury (soft) for Colin Tizzard and won “going away” (nothing much has happened since with the “also rans”). He was immediately tried at the highest level at Aintree in April (good) over an extended 3miles but pulled up, one suspects, on account of unsuitable ground-wrong! See below.
    Wincanton 2.15pm 4yo+ 2m5f novice chase (Grade 2) 11-02 Joe Tizzard
It’s interesting to see him pitched in a graded level on his first start over fences. I wonder what price he is for the Sun Alliance before he runs? Answer: 110/1 for buttons
Colin Tizzard comment: He was travelling beautifully in the Sefton at Aintree but he was pulled up and it turned out he’d pulled some muscles in his gut. After the race he couldn’t walk and it was four or five hours before we could bring him home, so he had a genuine reason for not running his race there. We’ll chase him this season and wait for a bit of juice in the ground. He could be a three-miler but I’d say 2m4f will be fine. He’s a beautiful prospect. 24/10/11
    Tarlan-2005 g Milan (D McCain)
He’s a big, old-fashioned chasing type, another of Tim’s that we bought at Cheltenham. He is going to want 3m and he may want it straight away. He will jump a fence and is a nice prospect. – 24/10/11
    4-Nov Kelso (good) 12.25pm 4yo+ 2m6f110yds novices’ hurdle 10-12 TJ Murphy
£75,000 Chelt Apr 2011; Fifth foal; closely related to Allfortara, placed 2m hurdle/chase, and half-brother to point/2m4f hurdle/3m chase winner Rear Gunner; dam fair staying chaser/pointer
James ‘Corky’ Carroll also enjoyed a good day when recording a double. Carroll opened up his account aboard Tarlan when taking division two of the Goffs five-year-old maiden. The Milan gelding took up the lead travelling well approaching the second last and kept on well to score by a comfortable four lengths. Winning handler Denis Leahy said afterwards: “I was absolutely gutted the last day when the race didn’t divide and then one fell and this lad ran bad he was just so flat. My horses seem to be back to form, this lad probably wants the ground a bit softer. I’m delighted for the owners Alan Cowing and Barry Cockerell who are from Kent. We will probably go for a winners race next.” (Nothing of note behind).

    Presented-2007 g Presenting (G McPherson)
Since the previous meeting at this venue two weeks earlier the track had been re measured resulting in the start being moved back about a furlong and thereby incorporating another fence. With the prevailing dry weather the ground rode fast though there was no trace of firmness to be incorporated in the going return. As a result there were quite a number of absentees from what was anyway a rather disappointing entry.
However even if fields were on the small side there was some competitive and interesting racing, none more so than the opening four-year-old maiden. Though only six went to post only one seemed not worthy of consideration and in the event on intriguing contest ended with the game front running Presented ridden by Barry O’Neill for Sean Doyle’s yard holding off the late run of Big Georgie by just half a length. The winner is likely to go now to the next Cheltenham Sale.
This is a real, real good horse. He was beaten by a good horse the last day (Firey King-sold for £115,000) but ran green then. He’s a very good jumper and is going to the sales now.” He made £21,000 at Brightwells in April.”
His first maiden was a serious race with the winner (unraced since making £115,000) and Cross Of Honour (fell) and Finnacial Climate (4th) subsequently winning bumpers in the UK.
In his winning maiden even the 5th horse, De La Bech (beaten out of sight), won a maiden on its next start and was 3rd in the Fairyhouse p2p bumper in April.
    5-Nov Wincanton (good-soft) 3.55pm 4-6yo 2m bumper 11-04 Jodie Mogford

You have to give this horse serious consideration today and the fact his trainer had a winner recently at Wetherby gives me more confidence.

    Monksland-2007 g Beneficial (Noel Meade)

My notebook entry for Monksland was as a result of him throwing away a race at Ballysteen on 1st May last. My hoped-for “quiet” fancy was bought for €80,000 by Noel Meade just 10 days later and he is a warm order to win today’s bumper at Down Royal (soft-heavy in places) at 4.00pm. He is too short for me. He will run on completely opposite ground to his one point start (good-firm).

Remarkably, another one of my “under the radar” horses also makes his debut under rules in this same race namely Paul Nolan’s Big Generator. He fell at Inch when holding every chance on his only start. And I have just had a WOW moment checking his pedigree: he is a half-brother to Noel Meade’s Aran Concerto and he is also coming in for sustained support. It would be ironic if he were to beat a Meade favourite today
