I find the discussion over whether Winsili would have won if Sky Lantern could have gotten out of Jail, to quote an article in the Manchester G, most interesting.
Surely this discussion would be moot with one simple rule if applied to all .It has to do with all horses being required to keep a straight line and not be allowed to wander or be ridden into the line of any other horse.Simple as that.Is that too difficult to do? Are jockeys able to keep their mounts running in a straight line? If disqualified often enough they would learn or be required to seek employment elsewhere.

Probably not too difficult to keep a horse in a straight line if just riding it but not so easy if you’re trying to get it to go as fast as possible and having to manoevre it through other horses [or, in Buicks case trying to stop it veering towards the rail; is there quite a camber at Goodwood as well? How bad a jockey is Wiliam Buick, by the way? RH seems to blame him for everything these days [even though he got a ‘careless riding’ ban as well]. Can’t help but feel that Sky Lantern has had too many races in a short space of time, though. I’ve never really watched Goodwood so closely and was surprised at how difficult a track it is to ride.

Sounds incredibly boring, maybe you should watch athletics or swimming instead.

Sky Lantern had plenty of daylight but Hughes made the mistake of trying to keep Sky Lantern covered up for as long as possible for a late burst and ended up with nowhere to go.

    Yours truly

The simple answer is to extend the starting stalls from the start, all the way to the finishing line. That way every horse is forced to stay in its own stall/lane and cannot interfere with any other runner. Not such a good system if you have a horse who doesn’t like the stalls but a Monty Roberts rug, liberally greased up, should prevent chaffing on the sides of the stalls. Of course Elusive Kate will be slithering along one side of the stall the whole way and may need a self lubricating system fitted to stop her catching fire due to the friction. I’m open to suggestions regarding refining my patent on this system which I am calling:-

The Easy Greasy No Interference Starting Stall Lane System

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I thought Richard Hughes was unsporting in the way he bitterly referred to "Mr Buick’s horse" as if it was some personal vendetta William Buick had regarding himself. Richard Hughes has had a magnificent week and you can’t win them all. Many a jockey would be over the moon with one Glorious Goodwood winner and he should remember that, although he is a top jockey, he is priviledged to be riding for a stable armed to the teeth with talented horses.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Connections state that Just The Judge spread a plate coming out of the stall and it got torn off, along with part of her hoof, after a couple of furlongs. She will have a break possibly until the Prix de L’Opera where Secret Gesture may also run. The trainer of Secret Gesture seems to think 1m 2f will be plenty far enough for her at the moment, so I would forget the St Leger, where she is as low as 16/1

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
