If Finsceal Beo wins the Nassau I will not post again and declare myself a horse racing dunce.
She has absolutely no chance she barely gets a mile.
I´ll hold you to that if she does
August 2, 2007 at 11:30 #110139In my humble opinion the race revolves around Mandesha. The horse is unbeaten on good ground (not raced on faster) having won all four starts on good ground (though it was subsequently disqualified in one of those). Its also won one of two starts at 10f. However its defeat over 10f is readily excused as it was its debut.
Which also leads onto another interesting point. Unraced as a 2yo, Mandesha was beaten on her first run as a 3yo and was also beaten on her first seasonal run as a 4yo…. leading to suggestions she hasn´t trained on? Could it not be that she needed the run? Other than her two seasonal debuts backers have collected everytime. She is proven at the trip and distance and looks a good thing to me, though I won´t get rich backing her.
Maybe Light Shift can chase her home, and I´m still convinced Nannina´s got a big run in her so there´s my 1-2-3 for a laugh
August 2, 2007 at 11:59 #110142Mandesha won her 1st start this year,it was her 2nd race that she was beaten in
August 2, 2007 at 13:12 #110165A fascinating contest and surely one to savour. However, it throws up a few imponderables and is not a race in which to bet like a hero – but no doubt the Coolmore "mafia" may take a different view.

August 2, 2007 at 14:10 #110174Finsceal Beo out. Shame. Don’t know if she would have stayed, but I would have liked to see her try.

Indeed it was! Thanks for that.
That changes things a little, but it still doesn´t put me off the bet because it was 12f Gd-Sft it lost last time, though it wasn´t the storngest race. Think my 3pt bet is now a 2pt bet lol.

With Ladbrokes longest on Peeping Fawn, (As they were on Scorpion), it looks as though they already have.
It wouldn’t count as inside information though, as bookmakers are part of the establishment? For what it’s worth I think, over this sharp 10f on fast ground they’ll go to fast for her.
Likewise Mandesha, who would be better at 12f, and with Nannina probably better over a stiff 1m, the gp1 flag could be flying again at Warren Place tonightAugust 4, 2007 at 09:34 #110432To honour my final competiton nap of the day, I shall have a small investment on Light Shift.

August 4, 2007 at 09:56 #110440peeping Fawn may of done most of her racing on soft ground, but i wouldnt worry 1 bit about the trip or ground for her on pedigree she will relish the faster ground and she has a very good turn of foot, remember she was 3rd in the irish guineas on fast ground. So im expecting her to win today in good style
August 4, 2007 at 10:07 #110445Blue Square has Mandesha for 3-1 now. That’s a good price,
she’s the one to beat imo.August 4, 2007 at 10:57 #110452Ia m flumoxed here. Was a bit disappointed with LS last time and wonder if Epsom was her absolute peak? PT was very impressive indeed but been quite a busy season so far for that one and certainl;y looked to me like one that comes into her own when staying on. Think i will swerve the French filly at the price. The runs this year cant be seen as satisfactory
I suspect Nannina will stay ok and the stable is firing. Might have ago at 11/2
August 4, 2007 at 11:07 #110454Great race in prospect no doubt.
But I’ve read a few times now that we have a great crop of outstanding fillies. Is that really the case, or a slight over exaggeration?
Light Shift has beaten Peeping Fawn, Peeping Fawn has beaten Light Shift. Peeping Fawn has lost 5 out of her 8 lifetime starts.
Finsceal Beo (though no longer a runner) wins, gets beat, win by a head, gets hammered etc. Nannina has won 1 out of her last 7 races. Speciosa hasn’t won a race since her Guineas triumph, and probably never will unless dropped in grade. Yaqeen had to be dropped into Listed company in order to add to her Maiden win, after been significantly found out in Group company. Mandesha looks ok, but some very narrow victories in some sub standard Group 1’s/2’s (though you can do more than win) is hardly the form of an outstanding filly – that opinion surely supported by her subsequent defeat by Mountain High.
Sorry for being negative as today’s race looks a cracking prospect – but to say we have got a bunch of top class fillies is way off the mark in my opinion. I think it could be a long long time before we have the likes of Ouija Board and Soviet Song racing in the same seasons for 2 or 3 seasons on the trot. I hope I am wrong.

August 4, 2007 at 15:22 #110497What a filly!!!!!!!!!
Pure Class.August 4, 2007 at 15:30 #110499She’s something special. Murtagh just couldn’t hold on to her in the straight.
August 4, 2007 at 15:33 #110500I can’t believe the post-race comments of the RUK pair. Not a mention of the fact that Light Shift was boxed in until it was far too late!
"Ran a brave race, Light Shift to come third". Oh, really?
I’d be excited be excited if I’d lumped on Peeping Fawn, but for crying out loud! Surely, they have some responsiblity not to be so one-eyed that they misrepresent the way the race unfolded. Or rather, apparently, not notice and comment it.
