He’s slower than the other contenders but if he was that slow then why didn’t they leave him for dead how was it he finished 2nd on the line behind the hot fav for this year.

Based on what? Native has been seen once this season and was behind Santini.
We all know or at least should know Santini is a Cheltenham horse. What happened at Kempton has no major bearing on things I’m my opinion of course

Nathan, you and I have made that same valid point more than once about the ‘if he’s that slow how come he nearly won last year’s race’. As he a bit of a ‘marmite’ horse the likes of FF91 and HDLG to name but 2 aren’t going to warm to him. No harm in continuing the valid points though
They kicked away from him at the bottom corner ( he was in front ) , Nico threw the kitchen sink at him and they still took lengths out of him before the 2nd last ….watch the race …same thing will happen again ….no tactical speed , to win a GC u have to be able to do everything

HDLG I know what happened in last year’s race, I saw it. But this year’s race wont be run the same way.

You watched the race , so you saw the flaw then , he couldn’t go , as he gets older he,ll get even slower , last year everything went right for him …perfect prep …this year def not , if he is to win a race then it’s aintree , also why do I think Native is better , he,s won a GC , welsh national off top weight , the GC breaks loads of horses ,he,s come back from 2 serious injuries and is still a top class horse , Jesus the last race was a flat race you can’t count that if you watch the race native got into a jumping rythem santini could only dream of

You’re talking about Native River’s past. That’s a different question. Has Native River been better than Santini. Yes he has. But the past is the past and the future is the future. Horses get slower as they get older usually as they reach the seniority of their careers. Santini is 8 to 9 age bracket. Native River who has been to the well a few times had some real gruellers 10 to 11 age bracket. If Santini flops, then Native River beats Santini, otherwise I can’t see it.
My gut feeling is that if its bottomless, Santini wont run at Haydock. Henderson works back from Cheltenham. If he was 50-50 about Cheltenham, I cant see a run on bottomless at Haydock myself.
Mike you’ve said yourself he,s a big horse that needs plenty work , a gallop won’t suffice , he had the perfect prep last year , ground was fine , in front from the 3rd out …..yet he failed , this year 2 poor runs , poor prep …. lay lay lay , native is a warrior , that’s why he,s loved , he,s won a GC , beat the best about and is still a top horse , I’ve said it before santini reminds a lot of minella Rocco ….

Trainer has said he needs work. I could be wrong but I don’t think I’ve said in a post that he’s a big horse that needs plenty of work.
If it ain’t Denman Chase I would prefer a hard racecourse gallop, or an entry and run in some low rated chase somewhere in the middle of the week where the ground ain’t bad, to a run on bottomless ground at Haydock. King George to the Gold Cup isn’t a bad omen for English horses anyway if it is a racecourse gallop.
I have backed ALP as well by the way, I’m just pointing out that I think Santini is still a contender for the crown.
I’m sure you,d put it somewhere but I’ll apologise if not , you have to admit compared to last year this year’s prep has been poor

Think we have gone a bit off topic anyway lol, my point was as your lay isnt a fav like the rest of us have done then its a nil return
Id say because they went slow last year he was able to hold a good position
But then his lack of gears caught him out at the end
If they went a good gallop hed be off his feet and one bad jump shuffles him back to a position that makes it incredibly hard to win
Thats the way I see it and is why I struggle to see a way he wins
