Paul – ‘Paki’ has a long established usage as a derogatory or demeaning term. Taffy and Jock do not.
January 12, 2009 at 19:30 #203456It has amused me that the BBC have seen fit to utter the word ‘paki’ in their broadcasts but do not allow ‘nigger’ which is hushed up as ‘the n word’.
Relishing the stirring up of a storm in a teacup?
Personally I find the near-ubiquitous post-watershed warning ‘contains strong language’ i.e the seemingly de rigeur and copious use of the word ‘fu*ck’ far more tiresomely offensive than a silly boy mouthing off mildly racial slurs to his mates.

True
Some people have them as their names, Taffy Thomas, Jock Stein etc.
Now what was the name of that Celtic & Scotland goalkeeper….um surname of Bonner…

But that is the point , he’s not just a silly boy – he’s 3rd in line to the throne.

I would say his role is irelevant – he is still a yound lad and like all young lads he needs to learn from his mistakes.
January 12, 2009 at 21:11 #203483One things for certain given his previous form in this area, he’s not a bloke endowed with oodles of cop on.
January 12, 2009 at 21:33 #203489I think the problem is that most people mistake non Political Correctness with racism, phobia etc. Being non PC does not mean that you are being racist. Indeed being non-PC can in fact be anti-racist e.g. a coloured person using the word nigger.
Racist comments are usually deliberately malicious. Unconscious non-PC comments or comments innocently made that cause offence are not racist. More often they are just ill thought out, ignorant aimed to impress or amuse.
This is another example of the press making/deciding the news rather than just reporting it.
January 12, 2009 at 23:09 #203513I saw the video today an now blame the sad person who has dragged this up.
H said. "and heres our paki mate, Ahmed."If he had said "and heres our Aussie mate Bruce". Where would this situation be.
Was this so bad?
It will be interesting to hear what "his mate Ahmed" has to say about it all.
Apparently Ahmeds father wants a full appology not only to the family but the whole Pakistani army!!!Now that is rude!!

Agree – and have they been sitting on it for a blank weekend, or it’s xx weeks since they had a go at one of the Royals, or Harry in particular, or have they only just got their hands on it? Really does not reflect well on standard of journalism if nothing else.
I have heard first hand non complimentary things about Harry, but he can’t help who he is and who his parents/grandparents are, and he’s not the only person in the world in the last three years who have used either terms.
If I was him, as soon as I could get my hands on my mother’s money, I would take it and run.January 14, 2009 at 21:43 #203963This type of thing happens every day, everywhere and it will never stop. Usually its just part of human banter. I have black and Asian friends that call me Pinky do I complain? No of course not it really isn’t important.
A huge fuss about absolutely nothing. The media and politicians don’t help by making a big deal out of it if they treated it the way they should and treated it as non offensive then it would largely cease to be.
People are obsessed by race. By highlighting it you are only emphasising the differences when people should be being brought together not driven apart and that may not be the intention but that is the reality.
There are terroists, murderers and rapists out there – all far bigger crimes than calling somebody a name in jest whatever that name is. Some people need to understand, realise and accept reality IMO and some just need to grow up a bit.
As for the press – well it sells papers doesn’t it?
January 17, 2009 at 04:13 #9997There’s a rumour that two deaths occurred as a result of friendly fire and the conspiracy behind this was to take the heat off Harry and gain some public sympathy in view of his recent deployment in the same area of H. Province.

I am sorry but that is the most ridiculous and bad taste post I have ever seen on this forum.
January 17, 2009 at 05:05 #204566I agree. But then again the friendly fire incident under investigation is a fact. The conspiracy theory is a fact, but not necessarily true. Please do not shoot the messenger. If you were offended, what can I say to aleviate this for you? I imagine nothing. I am sure similar posts occurred relating to conspiracy theories about Diana, Kennedy, Luther King etc. It’s the nature of being human that these sorts of issues are both discussed and disgusting but I understand where you are coming from.
January 17, 2009 at 05:13 #204568I can assure you Ken that there were no posts on the forum when Luther King or Kennedy were assassinated.
January 17, 2009 at 05:51 #204580It does sound completely ridiculous Ken.
The MoD are out killing squaddies as part of Prince Harry’s PR schedule?
No doubt the fatal shots were fired by Lord Lucan on his trusty steed Shergar, both of whom, as everyone knows, are in cahoots with the Dark Prince.
As conspiracys theories go, that must surely be one of the most retarded "theories" I have ever heard.
I realise that it is not your own opinion Ken, but it is so stupid that it is hard to get into a serious discussion about.

Most ridiculous, possibly. As for bad taste, I didn’t think we worried about that sort of thing on this forum anymore. After all, is it in worse taste than the Thalidomide joke on the other thread?
