Bob Bob Bobbin could well be one of the 3 greys jumping the last in front in this year’s Welsh National. That is providing Tizzard hasn’t fallen off by then. In case you are wondering, the other 2 are Neptune Collonges and The Listener. Iris’s Gift could be just a couple of lengths behind them if Jonjo can get him right.
September 13, 2006 at 10:56 #76845On the flat it has to be Desert Sun who won a 7f Doncaster maiden for Henry Cecil in October 1990 by 6 lengths.
On the back of good reports I backed him 50 quid each-way for the Derby – my biggest bet to date.
He ran 6th in the 2,000gns but only won one more race -a graduation stakes at Doncaster a year on from his maiden.
Over jumps the most impressive horse I’ve seen, both physically and ability wise first time up was Cornish Rebel. ÂÂÂ
On his debut he won a Newbury bumper by no less than 11 lengths from Cloudy Grey.
In the great scheme of things he hasn’t been disappointing, having been placed in the Welsh National and Hennessy but I just wish he’d won a big one. Hopefully there is still time.
Also I see that Three Valleys, still Juddmonte/Frankel is engaged in the Bell Woodbine Mile (Gr.1) this Sunday against Ad Valorem and Vanderlin. He won the Oceanside Stakes at Monmouth last time out.
September 13, 2006 at 12:02 #76846
Cornish Rebel was cantering in this year’s Gold Cup until making a howler at the top of the hill.
Like you say, I hope he can still put it together one day and win a big one.
September 13, 2006 at 12:51 #76847I`m pretty sure there`s a blatant reason for Johnny Ebeneezer`’s form tailing off. ;)
September 13, 2006 at 21:30 #76848Challenger Du Luc proved a really frustrating beast for martin pipe – time after time coming to the last cantering only to fold on the run in – even tony mccoy got fed up with it in the end…….
September 13, 2006 at 23:10 #76849The Bajan Bandit and Frantic Tan were two who had some decent wins between them but never went on.
Not to lay into Twiston Davies but Shardam didn’t really do that well after some promise either.
I’m sorry but I’m going to have to plead ignorance here! Watcha on about dandan?
September 14, 2006 at 11:58 #76851I`ve PM`d you Burroughhill!
September 14, 2006 at 19:18 #76852and I have PMed you back
September 15, 2006 at 16:56 #76853I’ve noticed that classy sort of horses who won middle- distance or staying handicaps apparently very easily under 10 stone (at least, when the bottom weight was 7.7) were often never the same again. Well, that’s true, I suppose, of a lot of horses who bust a gut, sometimes to be cruelly pipped.
I think Captain’s Table was once such horse.
Interesting time this arvo watching RUK. I seemed to be watching different races to the race caller, though I suppose they must have been the same races, only with a time lag of several seconds.
So, I’m thinking Whirling Dervish for instance is tearing home in the lead, and it turns out it’s 33/1 shot who wins. Similar thing with Shot to Fame earlier. Senior moments are happening to me ever more frequently.
Probably referring to change of trainer and previous trainer’s problems but we’d better not elaborate.
Talking of Three Valleys, TRADE FAIR was another bitter disappointment for Charlton- Abdulla. I remember Charlton being rude to Claire Balding when she pointed out to him the glaringly obvious that his charge has lost the race in the paddock!
