That is def not the 2 mile start at Wetherby so can’t be the first on the 27th.
Looks more like the 2m 7f with the fence in the background at entrance to back straight.
believe me its the 2 mile start and its the 12 20 on the 27th. the start of the 3m 1f is just before the 1f finish. now the course has changed. the 2m 7f is at the top corner just after the finish line. and the 2m 4f is along york road. don’t forget i work their and have to be at the starts or along york road its annoying as i know it was that race. and i no what your saying the cards got changed that day as they split the first the first was a 2m and the 2nd was a 2m 7f
January 26, 2008 at 21:05 #137964Promise you it is the 12.50.
Check the colours of the other horses in the race.
In your picture the Orange and Black nearest to you in Accepting, Denis O’Regan in Wylie colours on Wee Forbees etc.
Check the racecard it is the second race.January 26, 2008 at 21:06 #137965Richard, I’m pretty sure that’s the 2 mile start in the race photo. The gantry in the background is presumably one over the A1.
Just to complicate matters further, the St John Ambulance Hurdle, from which the above photo was taken, was the 1.00 race on the 26th of December. Front three are Ela Re (orange and black), Balyan (Wylie colours) and Speed Venture (orange and grey).

January 26, 2008 at 21:06 #137967Britches may refer to:
Breeches, or britches, an item of clothing. Also known as Pants

Hmmmmmmmmmm. Well I’ll be. That’ll teach me to bitch about britches.
January 26, 2008 at 21:06 #137968There is no fence directly behind the 2 mile start.
January 26, 2008 at 21:09 #137969From the first picture you can see the horse is cantering along the all-weather strip away from the stands and towards the start at the entrance to the home straight. So 2m it is?
January 26, 2008 at 21:11 #137970LOL – The plot thickens.
Never thought of it being the previous day !
Actually thinking about it I don’t think I have been since they realigned track so is the 2 mile start now at the entrance to home straight rather than 1/3 of the way up it ?
And doesn’t solve what the horse is !
January 26, 2008 at 21:12 #137971surely the real Hoiles would use the correct spelling breeches?
Although traditionally, and strictly speaking, spelt breeches, the word is pronounced britches and the word is acceptable to use, even if it may be a little more unorthodox than using ‘breeches’.

January 26, 2008 at 21:21 #137976If first on 26th could it be Golden Jess.
They look like the McCain colours – Ebony Light etc and as jockey could be S.Craine who rode for yard later in day maybe Carroll rep forgot them and had to borrow.
Alternatively that could also be a pile of the proverbial.
Welsh you are right, I thought it was him cantering in front of stands before turning and going down but they do go directly to the start for where I was thinking of.
BTW you should not be suprised (sic) I can’t spell !
January 26, 2008 at 21:27 #137977I’m almost certain it’s the 1.00 on 26th December.
As well as Ela Re, Balyan and Speed Venture, I can also identify Macchiato(orange and black striped cap), Hall Of Fame(maroon and blue) and Cottam Grange(blue with red cap).
I was trying to check the RP race Replay but that replay won’t run for me!

January 26, 2008 at 21:30 #137978I have that problem as well Rob so must be the site. Seems to think I am a Mac !
Certainly makes sense Ela Re lining up near front though no sign of Harvey leading him in !
Also my reasons for thinking was not 2m start are clearly out of date since re-alignment.

Once RP site back up can check on the replay as Rob points out.

yes harvey did lead him in but let go as the starter called them in thats why i think the jock’as are looking the way thay are as it took them all by surprised
January 26, 2008 at 21:41 #137984Would still guess at Golden Jess as most likely candidate but think it is just as well that unlike my colleague John Hunt I never tried the police force !
January 26, 2008 at 21:47 #137986yes im thinking that now, thanks everyone i’ll pick an easy’er one next time lol
