He did call the stable lad KitKat but he did have a cap with the letter K on the peak so I presumed that was his nickname. Is it a racial slur I’ve previously been unaware of?
I think it’s used to mean dark on the outside but white on the inside. But in this case it looks like a play on his name.
December 10, 2013 at 06:18 #461355Afraid that is an Oreo cookie.Black on the outside white on the inside.
December 10, 2013 at 09:27 #461359I think too often people look for racism and find it when it’s not there.

Its not racism as such but there are certain terms which we have to be careful with.
Its fine in accepted company where the people involved are all in on the joke but I dont expect to see it bandied about in the wider media and that’s only proper.
Moore committed a bit of a faux pas, but nothing more.

December 12, 2013 at 06:34 #461528Being of a certain age, I’m not a fan of all this PC nonsense. In my day we called a spade a spade, quite literally. Having said that – it’s a bit foolish to be doing it on TV nowadays.
……and it’s comments like ‘literally calling a spade a spade’ in the context of a discussion like this albeit from self confessed dinosaurs that make political correctness still very necessary……..When will some people realise and understand why randomly disrespecting whole groups of people with outdated, lazy, ignorant or disrespectful terms is no longer acceptable?……When they do,we can all move on.
December 12, 2013 at 09:25 #461532According to the "Team List" on the Moore’s website there is a staff member called Kirat Singh, presumably this is KitKat. TBH it was nice that the lad got a name check, often the Jockey and Trainer gobble up all the plaudits for themselves.
If that’s the fellow then Kitkat would appear to be mo more than an endearing homophonic nickname
Much like the cricketer Anil Kumble being affectionately known as Apple
I’ve never come across the use of Kitkat as a racial slur either but I do inhabit an area where 99% of the populace are WASPS, admittedly
December 12, 2013 at 17:12 #461579I watched The Morning Line and did wince when he used the word "chinky" not because I was offended but because of the P.C brigade.
I visit Gary Moores yard frequently and Jamie can often be seen and is always pleasant to everyone and I can confirm Kitcat is a nickname for that memebr of staff.Jamie would be mortified if he thought anyone was accusing him of being rude to a member of staff.
Team Cisswood are a very close knit group and everyone makes you feel welcome ( I have a small share in two horses).Jamie says it how he sees it but without being rude.
All this fuss is stuff and nonsense. !!!!!December 12, 2013 at 17:14 #461580I’m clearly alone here, but I was far more concerned with Moore admitting to Jimbo that they had ran a horse over an inadequate trip to "get a good blow in to him, you know?".
Yeah Jamie, we know alright.
December 12, 2013 at 17:41 #461581I know I’m biased but I really like Jaimie
. Didn’t see The Morning Line that day but was over the moon to see Jaimie and his dad so chuffed about the win [and also hearing about how much the horse means to Jaimie]. I rather got the feeling that he regretted being on the Morning Line and probably went into the verbal diarrhoea mode that I’d go into if I found myself on national television at that time of day [or any time for that matter]. And a lot of jockeys don’t include the horses lad in the post race celebrations so I found it rather touching.

Yeah Jamie, we know alright.
They don’t even pretend to be trying these days, the public, poor suckers, are so docile and trusting.
December 12, 2013 at 22:18 #461595A subject with differing opinions twixt young and old… ish.
’twas ever thus, me old chinas
December 14, 2013 at 08:16 #461731A fuss over absolute nowt, some folk want to get a life. How many have ever been for a "chinky" meal?
No, but I’ve been for several Chinese meals.
Reminds me of the exchange in I’m Alan Partridge:
Alan: "Can you say Chinky these days?"
Michael: "Oh aye, you’re alright with that man. ‘Cos it’s a race of people, and it’s also a type of food!"
December 14, 2013 at 11:03 #461772Ryan won the race, by the way:

from a HK perspective, there would be no hesitation in describing him as gwai-lo.
in terms of HK approach to such matters, consider the popular local toothpaste Darlie:

or the tale of Mosque Street:
