The little gamble on Monarch of Egypt really dried up quick, back out to nearly 10s again on Betfair. Can’t be fancied by ballydoyle that much you’d think.
September 28, 2019 at 14:44 #1463275Cashed out half the MOE bet and put it on Siskin! Bit risky but would expect a better gamble on MOE, come on Siskin, can’t wait for this one!
September 28, 2019 at 14:56 #1463276Not had a bet but would like to see Mums Tipple blitz them.
September 28, 2019 at 15:02 #1463277Cant be bothered just nothing going my way atm hahaha
September 28, 2019 at 15:03 #1463278God how disappointing is that?!!! What an anti climax
September 28, 2019 at 15:18 #1463280Not sure what to take out of that. Well done to Earthlight but nothing really screamed out
as one to put into the book for the future with the winner less than 2 lengths ahead of a
100/1 shot. I was disappointed with Mums Tipple, some suggestion that he got upset in the
stalls with siskin going down in the adjoining stall, but that may have had nothing to do
with his run. I’m confused
September 28, 2019 at 15:31 #1463281Shame for siskin! Delighted with the second, gives the form some substance atleast
September 28, 2019 at 15:32 #1463282It’s weird as siskin had been very professional and very calm throughout his other 4 races
Wonder what caused it
September 28, 2019 at 15:34 #1463283Very underwhelmed by that if I am honest – fully expecting Earthlight to put some distance into the rest when he hit the front but the runner up was coming back at him in the last few strides which makes me wonder whether he is more of a Commonwealth Cup type over 2000g.
You could put some of the below par runs of the other fancied horses down to just being over the top for the year – Mums Tipple travelled really well until asked and then cut out very quickly, the effort of winning at York (where for some reason Moore continued to use the whip on him all the way to the line) may have taken the stuffing out of him.
Connections of Siskin said he was fine as they were walking back up the track and I just wonder whether they will risk coming back over for the Dewhurst (ground permitting) now or just pick up stumps.
September 28, 2019 at 15:37 #1463284I would share that view LD, it was a very underwhelming renewal for me.
There was obviously a lot lost with Siskins bad fortune, but still doesn’t look a race to get too excited about.
September 28, 2019 at 16:00 #1463291Dont understand why its underwhelming? The 11/4 unbeaten group 1 winning fav won on ground firmer than he would have probably liked with the horse he beat LTO in 2nd on ground he would have favoured? Sure the 3rd @100/1 running a place throws doubt, but only to those in behind, wouldnt have went near sunmer sands myself but he has a habit of staying on late and he had the best position in the race (not something i would have predicted but i can see why it could happen) bar siskins mishap, id say it was a good race and will prove to be.
September 28, 2019 at 16:29 #1463294WD anyone with the trifecta
September 28, 2019 at 20:05 #1463299There’s a draw bias on the Rowley Mile, 2nd and 3rd in stalls 8 & 9, earthlight managed to get himself over but his class took him through anyway but there’s definitely a draw bias towards the stands sides on that track. Very unsatisfactory for a leading race track.
In time next season that will be full of winners that race
September 28, 2019 at 23:29 #1463308Have to say that Earthlight won that race through pure determination and guts, I was very impressed with the run of both 1st and 2nd.
Seeing Earthlight in the pre parade he has a determined look about him like he was eyeing up the opposition before the race he’s a pack leader and he fought hard to win this a real battler I loved him…
Bad luck to Siskin backers but at least he still has his unbeaten record in tact
he could have been spooked by the wind rattling the stalls it was blasting down the course today and a few 2 year old records were broken.
Hefty rule 4 took 25p in the pound
Well done Earthlight backers
He’ll keep winning.

I don’t mean to run Earhlight down ham, he looks a decent sort, but I kind of get what LD73
is getting at when he said he was underwhelmed with the race. Before the race I had hoped
that either Mums Tipple or Earthlight or Siskins, all unbeaten and very promising sorts,
would turn out to be a bit special. If perhaps not quite in the Pinatubo mould, hopefully
at least one would have firmly cemented themselves as different class to the rest of the
field and with serious classic aspirations. Eathlight may yet be up to that, I’m definitely
not ruling him out of having a serious chance when the 2000 Guineas comes around, he is talented
and has a great attitude but I don’t think that it was unfair when it was pointed out that that
there was only a couple of lengths between the winner and the 100/1 3rd. In fact there little
more than that between the 1st 4 home, which included a 100/1 and 66/1 shot. It was run in a
good time, but the weather and conditions had a lot to do with that with the 1st 4 races on the
card all beating the juvenile course records. I do think, as Jac pointed out, that it was a really
gutsy performance, and that may bode well for him in the future, I just think that in a race that
was being billed in the Racing Post as “the greatest Middle Park Stakes for a generation” that it
didn’t quite live up to that bill. That’s what I was getting at, and I think that is all LD73 was
getting at too.September 29, 2019 at 07:26 #1463313I can see where you’re all coming from with these thoughts Graham and LD73 and the disappointing run of Mum’s Tipple has surprised many, but this race was too big a step for him when you look at Roger Varian’s Molatham, 2nd to Mum’s Tipple who has progressed at a slower rate to win another Class 2 and lately a Class 1 Listed…
‘Media hype’ has a lot to answer for here with opinion certainly split over the 3 main contenders yesterday and, as Graham stated, with The Racing Post billing this years running of The Middle Park as ‘the greatest for a generation’ I can in no way understand why a talented horse such as Golden Horde was not included in their evaluations (obviously not fashionable enough) and was left to go off at 16/1 when he won the Richmond Stakes at Royal Ascot beating Threat and Royal Dornoch, who was victorious in the opener beating Kameko.
Later Golden Horde went to France and ran 3rd behind Earthlight and Raffle Prize in the Group 1 Prix Morny. His form is working out very well and he could be the most progressive of them all.
Hoping to see Earthlight turn out for the Dewhurst but his trainer may decide he has done enough for his first season.
Either way the stars of the future are now beginnng to shine and give out pointers for next years Classics.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 29, 2019 at 10:52 #1463322I think you hit the nail on the head with your evaluation Jac, let’s just give them
a chance to show show how good they can be
