Good to hear Madonna sent the Jackson family her condolences this morning. She then asked them how much they wanted for the kids.

Promoters AEG confirmed they have cancelled all upcoming Jackson dates. Thomas aged 9 and Dylan aged 6.

Let’s not mince our words, Sony must be glad that Jackson is ‘no longer with us’. He didn’t even get on with them after a fall out and they own all his music. Now all of a sudden Jackson fans have seen to it that a 3rd of the top 40 singles in the charts are his songs. Sony must be absolutely raking it in. If these people who are buying Jacksons records and making Sony rich are actually fans, then why didn’t they already have these records they’re buying all of a sudden ?

Is anyone watching the memorial service on BBC2? Thought he was going to be in a glass casket like Snow White, so a bit disappointed….Actually; half an hour into the service and I have to say it’s very moving..especialy seeing Stevie Wonder perform and sing with such genuine emotion .

One went on ebay or £170 – face value £60.

This is going to drag on for months and months. I really pity the children.

Sad that he’s died at such a relatively young age – but the coverage on the TV news is WAY OVER THE TOP and it just adds to the delusion of those sad souls shown out weeping in the street, tying flowers and tributes to railings and gazing dumbstruck at pictures of the dead star that this is somehow the right way to show ones’ sadness. It isn’t – they should all grow up. What’s happened to people since Lady Diana died? Aren’t we capable of grieving with dignity?
Some gobsh1te on the radio even said Jackson was a "genius"!!!! How devalued does that word get with the passing of the years?
    Beethoven – genius
    Mozart – genius
    Handel – genius
    Puccini – genius
    Rachmaninov – genius
    Chopin – genius
Michael jackson – er, I think not. You get my drift.

A top-class showman no doubt, but genius?
I doubt any of his songs will be sung in 20 years time by those not alive during his lifetime. How many kids in primary school (or high school come to that) go around singing "Jailhouse Rock" nowadays?
When a "top" performer dies – and I grant MJ was a top performer, it seems the media have to try and outdo one another with their hyperbole.
A dignified minute or two to precis the deceased’s career/life should be adequate.

Insomniac you missed out Mahler his first symphony, The Titan is a work of supreme brilliance

not sure why people wheel out all these classic composers as examples of a "genius."

How many children in 20 years will be singing Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, op. 13 (commonly known as Sonata Pathétique)?

For me, MJ was a genius in his field – I do think his music will traverse the eras.

As I’m sure you know, I am a right uncultured git and don’t ‘ave a bleeding clue what that Beethoven thingy sounds like. I do, however, retain wikipedia sourcing skills par excellence.
