Hope to welcome all old friends back to Meydan Thursdays where the Dubai World Cup competition kicks off on Friday 6th January.
So far the decs are not showing up on the Godolphin site but hope to have them here tomorrow or Wednesday.Good luck to all for a brand new start in 2023 good health and happiness and a healthy return on all the horses we back.
Jac
@John..hope all is well as haven’t heard from you for a bit and know how much you love these comps.
Looking forward to seeing you back here soon.
JacLeaving the year off the name of our Thread so that we can just carry it through year by year.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 2, 2023 at 00:27 #1629370A cunning plan Jac with the year left off, it had me thinking before
I opened the thread
Anyway, it all makes sense now and it’s just days to the Meydan off.
Best of luck all this year, and I’m sorry to here you’ve got the Flu too
Jac. There’s a lot of it about
January 2, 2023 at 05:25 #1629376Thanks Graham
Glad you did open the Thread and come in. I was thinking of renaming it in case they raced every Friday this year at Meydan but I think Meydan Thursdays has a certain ring about it and it would feel a bit strange renaming it now. This Flu is a really horrible strain as you and Marjorie know and I think Ive given it to Dave now as he has woken with a sore throat. We ‘re just staying indoors as dont want to pass it on.
Looking forward to our Godolphin World Cup compy and hoping to get some idea who will be running later today.
I’ll post the decs as soon as they appear.Best of luck to us all and great to have you back.
Jac

my goal will be to use all my swaps this year…
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
January 2, 2023 at 11:04 #1629400Hello to everyone and a happy new year and I hope for
most of you a better one than 2022 was.I have lost touch a little with the day to day happenings
and I hope that BigG and Jac have some good news on the
health front. For myself I have given some thought to my own position
and have decided that as far as the Godolphin Competition
is concerned I do not have the focus and concentration levels
needed to take part this time around.I still hope to be able to keep my interest in the run up
to Cheltenham and will follow your posts on this site.Once again
All the best to everyone
January 2, 2023 at 12:18 #1629408Hello John..so nice hear from you and thank you for your concerns.
Thankfully I”m feeling a bit better today and hope it is now on it’s way out.
After reading Graham and Marjorie’s encounters with Flu I was a bit worried where it was going at one point but thankfully it just needed the the Day and Night Nurse treatment which I have to mention took my son on a road trip around 3 village pharmacies to find…it’s like goldust at the moment everyone is ill.
Sad to hear that you won’t be joining in our competition but fully understand your reasons .. but do keep in touch and let us know how things are going.
All good wishes for a healthier and brighter 2023..

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 2, 2023 at 15:57 #1629418Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!!!
May your year be filled with good health, happiness and more than your fair share of winners!I have created a stable for Godolphin so I wouldn’t forget. I think I spent all of 5 minutes on it.
Take Care!
January 2, 2023 at 16:03 #1629419Andre..that’s about 4 minutes more than I will..totally clueless at the moment.

Hoping all your New Year wishes come true. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 2, 2023 at 16:10 #1629422Okay so I have a freebet from Paddy Power today and as I think that David O’Meara’s horse could be a tad overpriced at 28/1 I’m having a little EW on him and another who has been a bit of a Newcastle specialist in the past ..just hope he has a good memory

NEWCASTLE 4.40 .. MUSCIKA .. 28/1 EW
NEWCASTLE 5.10 .. TATHMEEN.. 17/2 EWEach Way Double on both..
Fingers well and truly crossed..
Jac**********
No luck today but it was small Stakes with a freebet and nice to watch a bit of racing.
Muscika ran well for 5f and then faded and Tathmeen
also ran well and just missed out being 4th.
**********Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 2, 2023 at 20:43 #1629446Hi Triptych and all Meydanners.
I hope you are all well.
Good to see the new edition up and running.
Last year’s was excellent.
Heres to more of the same.January 2, 2023 at 22:43 #1629450Thank you Sam that’s very kind and all the best to your Threads also.
Look forward to seeing you here throughout the year and keep up that good work you are doing on the Alexander system. You certainly have put your heart and soul into that one and it is a fascinating system which could yield a high return I’ll be keeping an eye out for those bets as will Graham of course proud Grandpappy of the founder member.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 3, 2023 at 05:53 #1629460Thanks Jac. We settled for Granpa (keep it simple, is my motto, with good reason
)
I will set up my no doubt ill-fated 10 today and hope for the best. Meydan has been good to me,
punting wise, over the years, I’d very much settle for that again. Many thanks for the good wishes John, I’m lucky I’ve got a fairy sister who has been at my side
since day 1. She’s definitely taken the place of my mother, say no at your peril. Me and Marj
are still here but 1000% better with the flu. It’s back to dealing with the pain in Marjorie’s
hip and leg, quite awful to be honest, but we’ve rebooked for the 12 Jan. I hope to hell they
hit the right mark this time. 9 long days to go and enough painkillers she’s taking to bring
down a rhino.Hope you’re keeping a bit better John, you’ve had a bit of a torid time of late. No problems
not submitting a team, you can shout on from the sidelines mate. It’s good to see you in here
I’d expect the newly crowned King Nathan, to be putting on a regal show. I reckon your new
strategy of using all your swaps should have you in contention.Andre, 5 minutes to pick out your team, what a swat
I expect to see you up
there, your competition record is 2nd to none. Very best of luck mate
Would love to see Sam in there as well, if he can find the time between everything
else he’s involved in. Good luck if you do.There were a few others who had a few quid on Meydan last year, Tonge, Steve 75, Blackberry
Kid and my old mucker Darren93. I’d be delighted to see any of them, or anyone who just reads
the thread who might fancy the Godolphin Compy or just the ocassional punt.Well I think I feel the shutters getting heavy on my eyes so I’ll maybe get another couple
of hours and see how I’m doing then.I think this is going to be a good year, although after the last couple I don’t think
that’s asking too much. Cheers all
January 3, 2023 at 20:02 #1629549My daughter might be taking her family to Dubai at half term. Not sure if they’ll be going racing but I will have a word in her ear. Have had a lot of negative comments on another forum (which have really upset me) about how un woke going to Dubai is which is upsetting as we’re one of the wokeyist families in wokeland that I know but Dubai ticks all the boxes for a weeks holiday, not too near, not too far with lots to do for two teenage boys and with warm weather. It’s somewhere that they can get to and hit the ground running activity wise and plan to spend a night in the desert. It’s also, in an increasingly dangerous world, very safe. It would be quite surreal to know that they’re there. While I’m, as usual, at home looking after their dog…
January 4, 2023 at 05:42 #1629591Moe, people will have views good bad and indifferent. A lot is said about Dubai,
some of it true, and whilst they may be a regime with questions to answer. So are
we. We sell a shitload of arms to the UAE and also them point the finger at atrocities.
In other words we are effectively having our cake and eating it. Governments are murky
at best, all of them. Your daughter taking her kids to Dubai wont make a blind bit of
difference. Tell them to enjoy their holidays, and let governments kid on they are outraged
with a very small o whilst raking in the money from the sale of military equiptment to the
UAE. Dubai have lot to answer for in relation to the unfair way their own people are treated,
we on the other hand let people freeze to death in shop doorways (up 80% in 2 years) It’s hard
to know who the good guys are.January 4, 2023 at 11:15 #1629601Very well said Graham

Dubai is an amazing place to visit. We went there 4 years ago and will never forget it. We stayed in a beautiful Morrocan themed hotel on The Palm and spent one night at Meydan Hotel for a racenight, sadly not the World Cup.
Hope your daughter and family enjoy a wonderful experience Moe and look out for the giant Aquarium in the Emirates Mall, another Mall has an ice skating rink and ski slopes and a trip up the Burj Khalifa is a must and usually has to be pre booked.
As Graham says we have enough to feel guilty about in our own country .. I don’t know if you watch Call The Midwife but the episide on New Years Day was set in 1968. It revolved around the speech made by the disgraced MP Enoch Powell and reflected on the dire consequences it had on the very folk who had come to this country to help out..a powerful episode indeed.
Come back and tell us all about your daughter’s trip and enjoy dog sitting with your feet up watching the racing..Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 4, 2023 at 12:41 #1629605All the best to you Sam.
Ahhhh Graham, I can tell you’re feeling better – which is wonderful news. Hopefully the experts can figure out how to help Marjorie and her terrible pain problems. I can’t imagine going through that. Truth be told, half of the 5 minutes was spent remembering my password to the site

There isn’t a government in the world that isn’t corrupt to some degree or another. The US is a prime example.
I will stay off of my soap box today though, as I don’t have a lot of time. I hope your daughter has a lovely trip to Dubai Moe.I’ve never seen Call the Midwife Jac, but I do remember the infamous “River of Blood” speech from 1968 and the disgraced Enoch Powell. I imagine that was a very powerful episode.
Take Care Everyone & Good Luck with your Godolphin stables!
