Crisford yard unlucky as they brought Without a Fight down last year and track went against him , then he beats their West Wind Blows a lip in Caulfield Cup and wins today .
Owner has about four out in OZ now , Third Realm who was scratched today , Dubai Poet who has had a win and runs in last in 30 mins . He also has Legend of Dubai who will pay his way . Looking a his horses in UK I’d guess Royal Champion looks the next one to come down,,he could earn plenty .

Vauban was well placed and travelling well but the last furlong was like a 5f sprint and he could not compete.

The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.

Vauban was beaten before the home bend. Just not enough speed to go with them.

Id backed him in singles and doubles and was looking at well in excess of 3k for him winning so it’s a large kick in the knackers.

Onto my doubles of the paddy power and greatwood hurdle in a couple of weeks.

Imho ground was maybe bit too firm ( three finished lame ) , when Serpentine quickened he was committed to keeping tabs on him and had nothing left as those from rear ran on late . Top 5 rear or rear of midfield in run ,first three took turn in next to each other rear of field .
That race might take a bit of getting over for Vauban , ive got half a feeling he won’t be same horse again . Hope Iam wrong as I like him .

Didn’t look like a sprint finish to me

They’ve gone way too fast in front and the pace has collapsed

Vauban was too near the pace and didnt stay, leading the chasing pack and being way too near the very fast first 2 or 3f and had nothing left for the finish

All the placed horses came from plenty far back which says all you need to know

I have similar opinion to FF91 about Vauban position and the pace.

Also the paddock observers said Vauban’s winter coat was coming through/had come through – I’m not sure if that can affect a horse’s performance.
