Chapman at it again this morning on The Opening Show- apparently, Stradivarius has beaten nothing but Battaash is up there with the all-time greats on yesterday’s performance.
Hmmmmm… what did Battaash beat, Matt?
August 4, 2018 at 09:58 #1362187Chapman isn’t there to be mr boring or mr sensible like Stewart Machin or Peter Naughton he is there to provoke the viewer and cause debate by controversy or his actions.
If itv want to have a dull show with no personality they can employ the two above and give the viewers an instant cure to insomnia.

To the point where they reach for the “off” button?

I’d be far happier watching Stewart Machin anytime unlike Chapman who is an a***August 4, 2018 at 14:13 #1362255Chapman has already been involved in a bit of a contretemps before the first televised race at Goodwood .
It looked for one moment that he might lose his rag with the five young men who had apparently annoyed him .

On good to firm going manages a time 0.40a under the standard, on the clock it was a good performance but nothing special, I did like Matt sucking up to Hamdan after the race, champion sprinter of 2018 my arse…

August 5, 2018 at 00:37 #1362285Thanks, Mike.
I know that you put a lot of effort into your time ratings; perhaps Chapman should spend more time thinking and less talking.
Having said that, he’s apparently employed to talk nonsense. Easy job if you have the right contacts.
August 5, 2018 at 09:56 #1362293How many people have to pause the TV to give enough slack to wind it forward to omit Chapman. If I pre-record, which I nearly always do these days, I am taking huge chunks out to avoid his silly face and his even sillier comments. I must say that some of the owners and trainers are very tolerant at the moment, I look forward to seeing some stressed out trainer floor him, that might make watching him worthwhile. He is ruining TV racing for me, okay we are lucky to have terrestrial TV and TV of racing with good pictures, but he is awful.
Incidentally do any women who watch the racing like him or even think he’s okay? I get the feeling that his fans are men.August 5, 2018 at 11:10 #1362300I’ve stopped watching ITV entirely now. RUK all the way for me.
August 5, 2018 at 13:48 #1362313I’m grateful to ITV for the coverage but it’s been pre-record, fast forward and pause for me for some time.
A few weeks ago I received a text message from a friend who does not follow racing but had ITV racing on before the football was due to start. It said “Who is this Mike(sic)Chapman ? taking it right down market. Pow.” I don’t think he’s been won over.

Best of luck putting up with Naughton and his monotone nonsense that he has been spouting this afternoon if that is what you like enjoy.
Naughton & Machin on same channel spouting which song the presenters should have played before they appear. How interesting….
Two people this boring should not be allowed on tv especially not at the same time hopefully Sky Sports Racing will put someone more interesting on for their coverage of Chester.
August 5, 2018 at 17:17 #1362337I too have given up on ITV for the flat season for RUK but sadly I may have to return next summer as all the Irish racing will ruin RUK for me.
August 5, 2018 at 17:39 #1362340Any time any racing presenter appears on screen, I smash my television into a thousand pieces and then I set fire to it.
It’s an expensive business.

I certainly wouldn’t describe myself as a “fan” but I’m possibly unique in being generally ambivalent. He certainly annoys me from time to time and undoubtedly oversteps the mark on numerous occasions. However, I do welcome the addition of a voice that isn’t just sucking up to jockeys the whole time. Lost track of how many are the “most popular in the weighing room” (they can’t ALL be!) and at least Chapman will, for example, call out a really rubbish ride. Prepared to tolerate him as, when he IS being serious, he often comes up with some useful comments. I find Luke Harvey far more irritating (though, to be fair, he sometimes also talks sense in his rare lucid moments)
August 11, 2018 at 03:57 #1362692Give me Chapman any day over the a standard pundit.
I like his passion. He at least looks like he’s enjoying himself. The rest of them sound like they’ve just come from a funeral!
August 27, 2018 at 13:59 #1364659Doesn’t seem in the best mood today in 15 mins insulted the City of Hull, sneered at the crowd numbers at Ripon, had a go at the 80s song Amadeus by Falco, the field for the first at Southwell and Simon Mapletoft.
If you don’t wanna work Bank Holiday Matt you should have told then you didn’t want to do it lol.
August 27, 2018 at 17:39 #1364666Would be far better concentrating his talents to sports like darts or wrestling than to the sport of kings, but hell bent, unfortunately, on lowering the prestige of racing.
