It only came to mind Cork when De Boinville said is his post-race interview he was fully expecting Envoi Allen to loom up in the straight. So perhaps Skelton didn’t know either. Guesswork, of course.

Interesting to hear De Boinville say that. I wondered if the riders had heard the commentary in the absence of any crowd noise. I assume there is a commentary?

I was surprised too. Would explain Skeltons actions to an extent, if he did not know either. May have thought the only way to beat the favourite was stretch his stamina and use Shan Blues jumping.
Interesting point about the track commentary. I also assumed the jockeys perhaps had a chat or two between fences about important incidents like that.
