I really like a mare that runs today and have backed her for the Mares Novices race at the festival. The mare is Lesley Dawn trained by Jessica Harrington. She impressed me on her second start and Harrington has already stated she is being kept to Mares company this year with Cheltenham the target.
She’s 16/1 with William Hills which I’ve taken today.
She is second favourite to the odds on Mystic Theatre today who is 10/1 across the boards for the same Cheltenham race. I’ve decided to back her at 16s in the belief that she runs well today and possibly shortens.
As a side note, I really like this new Novice Mares race at the festival. Excellent idea to introduce it in recent years.
Lesley Dawn @ 16/1
November 3, 2017 at 11:01 #1324690I’m already on Mystic Theatre for the festival but I like the look of your mare too. Haven’t backed either today but hope it will be an encouraging race for us both. I agree that the mares’ novice is a good race for the festival to have and hope it will continue to improve in depth with more trainers represented.
November 3, 2017 at 11:55 #1324697With my girl getting 10lbs, I’ve had to have a small bet at 9/2 today. Done your mate to beat mine as a saver as I think both are going to be far better than the rest.
The worry today for me with Lesley Dawn is that she might just lack the experience of yours.
November 3, 2017 at 13:28 #1324718Mystic Theatre fell three hurdles out. Was travelling fairly well at the time but she stepped at it and ploughed straight through it. Incredibly, she looks ok. At first viewing, I thought that she wasn’t getting up. Thankfully, she’s up, albeit gingerly.
My mare was travelling powerfully but ran out of steam pretty quickly in the last furlong and ended up fading into third.
Encouraging and dissappinting in equal measure id say.
November 3, 2017 at 14:00 #1324723Very very impressive performance from Hendersons new French mare Dame De Companie. Had a quick look through his comments since she arrived over the summer and he really likes her.
Upon then looking through her French form, she was second in a big field auteuille race worth £48k.
Her win at odds on today without coming off the bridle has really impressed me.
There’s still a bit of 14/1 available and by the end of the day, I would’ve taken it I think.
No more antepost bets on the race for me now.
These two will do.
Lesley Dawn @ 16/1 and Dame De Companie @ 14/1
Before I back DDC, I’m gonna try and get her intoroduced in the ‘To win any race’ market, just in case Henderson wants to run her in the supreme instead.
November 5, 2017 at 11:41 #1325282Got offered 10/1 for DDC to win any race so took that rather than the 14s for this race
December 16, 2017 at 16:05 #1332420Countister was much improved today. I think Henderson now has the top two horses in the market with Dame De Companie and Countister. The fact that Countister is owned by McManus plus Apple Shakira’s performance today probably means Apples Shakira will go for the triumph leaving some value in the market here.
December 17, 2017 at 15:00 #1332651True Self was looking good today before the ground got the better of her. Runs like that often offer up betting opportunities. She looks like a good ground horse to me.
December 28, 2017 at 22:07 #1334601Not a whole lot of juice in 14/1 right now but I was quietly impressed by Crackerdancer at Limerick yesterday. Might be underestimated for a small yard if turning up on the day.
December 30, 2017 at 15:31 #1335036Maria’s Benefit 8/1 after her Taunton demolition job. What a mare.
December 30, 2017 at 15:35 #1335039I can’t ever take heavy ground form into account to be fair on Maria’s benefit. I can’t have her for that race but you never know she could be just as good on good ground
December 30, 2017 at 15:38 #1335040I thought it was the other way round TBH Jaschlong. She has shown a preference for a decent surface in the past and deep ground was a bit of a question mark today. Very impressed.
December 30, 2017 at 16:46 #1335049She looks classy does Maria’s Benefit and her hurdling’s the slickest I’ve seen aside from the champion hurdler. But she’s just one from four left handed so I’d want to see that form today repeated going left and preferably on undulations.

10/1 on hills and I make this one the biggest antepost bet I have at the moment.
Will only get better.

I have two small stake bets on Lesley Dawn and Dame De Compagnie already.
However, by my antepost standards, they are tiny bets. I was similarly impressed like you with Maria’s Benefit and, potentially could have a proper punt on her for this. Will see what the trainer says about her target and also where she will have a prep.
January 10, 2018 at 10:38 #1336718Quite impressed with Canelie yesterday. She won with plenty in hand off 124 despite being weak in the market and covering more ground than her rivals. Possibly a 140+ horse, which wouldn’t leave her with a huge amount to find if taking this route.
I’ve added her in at 14/1.

I’d say this race is, year on year, the worst race at the festival for quality.
Even the handicaps are full of class 2 animals at least.
Barring a Mullins hotshot and two or three others, this field is usually of pretty poor grade young Mares.
So I’d agree 145ish would probably be close to winning this.
