This looks an ideal opportunity for Our Girl Salley to extend her winning sequence. She boasts some seriously smart form in bumpers and hurdles, and if she can handle this quicker surface it’s very hard to envisage her getting beaten. The way she won at Leopardstown over Christmas really caught the eye and she looked like she could take high rank among the best novices that day.
Golden Sunbird was mightily impressive last time out when beating Definite Class by 18 lengths. She’s improved no end as this season has gone on. There would doubts about her ability to handle the ground also, and she has the form to reverse with Knockfierna too.
Knockfierna gave Golden Sunbird 12 lbs and a 3 length beating on her penultimate run, but her head beating of Start Me Up last time may not be good enough to trouble Our Girl Salley in my opinion.
To be honest the more I look at this race, the more I see Our Girl Salley as the class act, and the 5/2 available looks like good value. I’d see her as more of a 6/4 shot personally. Shop Dj, who was behind her at Leopardstown, has since franked that form with a cracking effort at Newbury.

I know Belle Brook let the form down somewhat at Downpatrick but this mare was a 7/1 chance antepost against the mighty Quevega before she had to miss Cheltenham. She’s now 11/4 against Golden Sunbird (who took an age to break her maiden) and Knockfierna (who only scrambled home against that pig Start Me Up). The prices make no sense. Brave Beauty on a line through Belle Brook is the only conceivable danger as far as I’m concerned and I’d be surprised if she was good enough.
Geraghty thinks the world of this mare.
