Its not wrong to have an opinion saying one will beat the other, shes a cracking mare but beating darver star and PM a length or so over 2 miles i honestly believe that even though it wouldnt suit her atall that benie would have pissed that going backwards today, that was such a bad irish champ hurdle, so bad, sharjah obviously never ran his proper running, but bar him youd assume everything else was pretty close, honeysuckle probably value for another length or two given the mistake, an extra4f might suit honeysuckle a bit better but its bang on benies distance, hasnt a prayer of getting near her, and the fact that skybet/PP have shortened her for the champion hurdle to 7/2 is unbelieveable
February 1, 2020 at 15:42 #1481618If honeysuckle jumps like that again it’s very hard to see her beating benie des dieux
She has a lot of work to do in that area as stormy Ireland will ensure this is run at a good gallop so honeysuckle cant afford to be so slow at the obstacles
February 1, 2020 at 15:55 #1481621Jumping dont worry me its a drop down in class over 2 and a half. Different race.
February 1, 2020 at 15:58 #1481622Ham your opinion says banker which is a bit nuts. Its a cracking head to head that im looking forward to.
February 1, 2020 at 17:12 #1481640In my opinion racing benie des dieux is a considerable step up in class from facing petit mouchoir like today or epatante in the CH not a drop in class
Will be a fascinating clash that il be confident benie would prevail in
But I think honeysuckle will run in the champion hurdle still
February 1, 2020 at 21:59 #1481676Did i say banker? Dont think i did, but its a certainty that bar an injury/fall or anything other than a fair race, that benie would absolutely dust away honeysuckle after today, over this trip over any ground
Honeysuckles a cracking mare but i doubt shes anywhere near benies level, but we shall see soon or maybe notnif she swerves this
February 2, 2020 at 07:50 #1481684It’ll be a fascinating clash I hope it happens. So you will all be able to see that Benie will have to fight for it not this myth from some that it will be a cake walk.
February 5, 2020 at 19:43 #1482087Honeysuckle confirmed for the Mares Hurdle.
March 3, 2020 at 12:37 #1484501Honeysuckle confirmed for the Mares Hurdle (again today).
March 3, 2020 at 12:55 #1484502Another case of how the four day festival has ruined it. At least one viable CH winner is running 40 minutes later and possibly two if BDD goes here.
Sad, mad, bad.
March 3, 2020 at 18:52 #1484523The great thing about Honeysuckle lining up in this is you may get a better price on Benie de Dieux. Imo the absolute banker of the week if she goes here. Wins on the snaff.

Peter Savill will love this reply.
March 3, 2020 at 21:04 #1484546Makes sense to me. Honeysuckle run against Petite Mouchoir shows she not really a 2 miler so right decision. Run your best distance against 1 horse to beat rather than an inadequate distance against a few to beat.
March 4, 2020 at 09:29 #1484558Mike i can see that view, but alternatively, what mark will she probably have to run to in both races?
I’d say she’ll have to run higher in a Mares.
That was her first run in ages over 2miles, and was on dry-ish ground, she wouldn’t have had that at Cheltenham. It would be daft to think she can “only” run to that level over 2miles. Considering it wasn’t far off her best on ratings anyway….

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 5, 2020 at 05:55 #1484620Not a lot to find on the ratings if any. Honeysuckle was 1 pound higher than Benie before their last run.
Benie went up to 3 miles and produced what I said at the time was awesome and that has put her ahead on the ratings. Back down to 2 and a half where she was rated 157 and Honeysuckle 158. Benie is regarded as a banker for many but I don’t think it’s that clear cut on the numbers at 2 and a half miles. Honeysuckle is also unbeaten in all her starts. Hoping for a cracker of a race.In the CH it’s usually a performance in the 160s that wins it so Honeysuckle would have to have improved again I think to win it over a trip short of her best.
March 8, 2020 at 20:20 #1485002Not a race which adds an awful lot to the Festival in my opinion as main contenders end up avoiding stronger contests. Would love to see Lady Buttons up there, and she will give her running, but I expect BENIE DES DEUX to see off Honeysuckle with the rest held.
March 8, 2020 at 20:52 #1485005Lady Buttons at 20/1 is plenty big enough for a bit of each way fun.
