This is coming through on the news wires:-
Two people, understood to be apprentice jockeys attached to trainer John Quinn, are believed to have been killed in a fire in a block of flats in Norton, near Malton overnight.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police has said, "At this stage it is believed two people have died although this cannot be confirmed until the fire has been fully extinguished and officers are able to enter the building and carry out a full search.
"Two other casualties, two men believed to be in their early 20s, have been taken to York District Hospital where they are being treated for the effects of smoke inhalation and burn injuries."

My deepest sympathies go out to the families and freinds of Jan and Jamie.
Also to John, Sue, Sean, Kelly and Michelle who I know will be heartbroken by this devastating news.
September 5, 2009 at 14:36 #247306It’s sad when anybody dies, but for 2 kids who’ve not lived properly is devastating. And what they must have gone through, I can only begin to imagine.
All my condolences to the families involved.
September 5, 2009 at 14:51 #247310Awful news !

My deepest sympathes to the family and friends of all affected by this terrible tragedy.September 5, 2009 at 14:59 #247311Apparently the families haven’t been informed yet, so best you delete the names.
September 5, 2009 at 17:28 #247332The fire is being treated as arson and a man has been arrested – words fail me!!!
September 5, 2009 at 17:39 #247335Paul, after the 10 days this country has been through, I’m not sure why words fail you. The mentality of a minority in this country is despicable and they seem to be doing their damndest to turn this place into one huge vigilante state.
September 5, 2009 at 17:57 #247341Very Sad news

September 5, 2009 at 21:09 #247387The lads in the yard were talking about it this morning when I was doing my horses. Police and Fire engines were all over Malton.
September 6, 2009 at 00:09 #247412Brings our petty diferences on this forum in to perspective.

Value Is EverythingSeptember 6, 2009 at 01:44 #247434They have announced one of the dead jockeys to be Jamie Kyne. I don’t follow flat racing so know nothing about this rider, but still this is terrible news and my sympathies go to his family and friends.
It certainly puts the pathetic and ridiculous media circus regarding Kieren Fallon into perspective, please no more.
