I once worked on a computer help desk, dealing with BT employees. One chap was having a problem with his website in that none of the text was visible.

Back in those pre-millennium bug computing days, much of the BT in-house software was still MS-DOS based. Once I went into the guy’s settings the problem became apparent pretty quickly. He too had gone for the classic black for his text but, rather less classically, had paired it with black for his "paper" setting.

    Numpty

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Amen a thousand times over to that! Amazing how many sites try to come up with a ‘novel’ colour layout, when black on white has been successful from William Caxton to the Kindle Paperwhite!

Blue-black text on grey is both very clear and easy on the eye This is the Microsoft Office Suite default, though I personally lighten the grey a bit

Black on brilliant white (this site) is tough on the peepers, especially when daylight has ceased

Off-white, High-white, Light-cream, Ivory – call it what you will is preferable and indeed aesthetically more pleasing than Brilliant

A Parker 51 ,blue-black Quink and Conqueror high-white laid paper. ‘Tis still a joy

I will divert from the pen to concentrate on
the sword. Daylight’s ladder has some faulty
rungs after fourteen years and it basic principle
of highlighting areas is good, and changes have been
successfully implemented, but it needs a re-think
    and overhaul.

We have one boss of bosses in here – he is a fair
man but he carries a lot of weight on his shoulders
and claims to have made the odd mistake.

Lucky Luciano re-modelled the Mafia to become
one of the most successful business units of all
time by flattening the organisation and forming
a commission of five families. We also have five
    predominant families.
Racing – Big Races – Cheltenham – Ascot
Systems – trends – Daily Lays and Plays
    other sports
    competitions
    Lounge

Mac The knife can run racing
Matron the gentleman shooter can run Systems
Nathan the nightime fixer can run other sports
Big Bad Rolfe can run compos
Ricky the rollicking Rickster can run the farm – phew

For any contract to go out on any one
    the majority of families would
    have to agree.

The other units of the mob
    memorials (we hope not)
will be placed under the main sections
or on a separate ladder on the
left hand side so the main families
    will have easier access

If we do delve into narcotics
Ginger the finger can do the math
and will be an excellent straight man cover
    to run it.
Wit the fix should be able to run our
legal set up in HK and
the bone man Drone can draw up
    the constitution

Lucky bought two hundred ringside tickets
    for the Jack Dempsey fight
    and distributed them to gangsters
    and officials –
    this act saved his reputation
So Mac – generosity pays

    final thought of the day…

    I didn’t get where I am today
by waking up and feeling like a hundred dollars
no I wake up and feel like a million
