Pretty nauseating this is my opinion. Fully agree with the backlash.

May 12, 2021 at 21:35 #1540565I guess, that’s what Racing is still all about…. Nepotism, White Power, ignoring the opinion of the general public and so on.
Why would we need Frankie’s daughter or Thady’s sister promoting themselves at all on Ladies’ Day 2021?
May 12, 2021 at 22:11 #1540567Yeah what is the point. Here’s a list of riders from the 2018 race – “from all walks of life” according to the article I got it from.
Lady Alice Manners – Columnist for the Sunday Telegraph and a personal shopperDr Amanda Cross – Cancer Researcher based at the Imperial College LondonCamilla Hickish – Training to be a doctor, cancer survivorEmily Baxendale – Founder and creative director of Emily-London, a luxury headwear brandHolly Thomson – The Director and Editor of In The Country MagazineCamilla Swift – Supplements Editor for The SpectatorRosie Tapner – British Fashion Model and Oxford Brookes University StudentSarah Cook – Daily Mirror Sport Secretary, rides Harrodian KnightShadi Halliwell – Chief Marketing Officer at ThreeAnna Rowlinson – Gallery Manager at the Osbourne Studio GalleryKatie Forrest – Managing Director for the Edit Design AgencyVictoria Gray – Lifestyle Director for the Sunday Express
I’d like to see a grooms’ race. Some of the women who are permitted to shovel the horses’ sh*t all year for minimum wage and travel hundreds of miles to lead them round the parade ring should be given enough training to sit on top of them on the racecourse, once, for about a minute and a bit.
May 12, 2021 at 22:48 #1540570I didn’t think it possible, but I think I have just been made aware of an event which interests me even less than the Shergar Cup!
Cheers!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 12, 2021 at 23:04 #1540573Tatiana, Candida? No wonder racing is still seen as a posh persons sport.
I think a grooms race is a great idea Greenasgrass.
May 12, 2021 at 23:19 #1540576I know, they sound list a list of Bond girls from the Roger Moore era.
What a story for racing, Daddy Gosden and Fun-time Frankies daughters somehow dragging themselves up from the gutter to get rides in this.

May 13, 2021 at 03:56 #1540586I love the idea about a grooms’ race…..
Great thoughts, mate.May 13, 2021 at 10:27 #1540600lol what an insane self indulgent proposition for racing to come up with, unsurprising really, keeping the good times for themselves – wouldn’t expect it any other way!
May 13, 2021 at 13:02 #1540613Agree with all the comments here, especially the excellent idea of a grooms’ race. There weren’t any Tatianas or Camillas at my school (probably just as well).
May 13, 2021 at 13:45 #1540627Racing is an expensive sport. You are always going to have lots of posh, rich people in it.
As for the diversity issue, will it really make any great difference if a few non white faces are in the Magnolia Cup? To be honest, I had completely forgotten about the 2019 running and I doubt it had much impact in the wider world.
May 13, 2021 at 13:51 #1540628Couldn’t do any harm if a few people had the day of their lives rather than the likes of this ultra-privelidged lot CAS. And if everyone had the same attitude regarding diversity, where would we be?

May 13, 2021 at 14:20 #1540636If racing is serious about diversity issues, it would be encouraging more women and non white people to be full time jockeys. A few non white faces in a race like this one but nowhere else would just look like tokenism.
May 13, 2021 at 14:27 #1540638Got to start somewhere, a thousand mile walk starts with a single step and all that. I stand by my comments in post #1540628, agree to disagree.

May 13, 2021 at 17:24 #1540702Nepotism and posh tarts. I thought this race was meant to stand out in some way?
May 14, 2021 at 18:42 #1540833Lass and Lads race (let’s not be sexist) is a good idea in theory… However, wasn’t the Magnolia Cup devised as a charity event? ie An event to get as much money from the ultra-privileged business, sport, fashion and media as possible. Which is why you’ve got what appears as posh tarts and upper-class nepotism. Lads and lasses and their friends, family and social circles sadly are not going to generate the cash.
Value Is EverythingMay 14, 2021 at 19:05 #1540841It’s the equivalent of a charity auction. You don’t invite lads and lasses to a charity auction that wants to generate as much money as possible.
Got no interest in the event myself and could argue it shouldn’t take place if you like. But it is for “charrity” and does every event need to “reflect society and /or Racing”?
Value Is EverythingMay 16, 2021 at 22:03 #1541296Johns thoughts from 13:50. Well worth a listen
