Ouch, judge – painful stuff!
August 24, 2017 at 14:33 #1315273Worst thing about that is I’m not really a form person anyway so don’t care that Actress was the form pick.
Must be a self destructive thing to have gone against my original selection and backed Actress.
Oh well only cost me 275 quid.

Totally mate will be getting the razors out later.
August 24, 2017 at 14:35 #1315276Also had Great Prospector in the first race- second- couldn’t make it up really my luck.
August 24, 2017 at 14:37 #1315278Well I had the first two just… just in the wrong order! Didn’t lose anything and I think the first 3 are horses to keep on side with.
You were spot on about Happy Like A Fool Judge – she needed much quicker ground and a furlong less to be seen to best effect. She’s clearly talented though and I’d be interested to see if she’s back on these shores for Royal Ascot 2018.

“Saver”, Judge. You know it makes sense.
Value Is EverythingAugust 24, 2017 at 15:34 #1315291Wouldn’t have needed a saver Ginge if I had gone with my original instinct.

I was going to follow Great Prospector after his run behind Gustav Klimt, a race I had anticipated he would run well in. However, I felt it was potentially a mistake dropping him a furlong in trip and didn’t back him for that reason today. I thought I was going to regret it but he didn’t quite get there. To my eyes he was doing all his best work in the closing stages and I think he needs further than 6F.
I was surprised to see De Bruyne Horse tipped for that race last night. He was on his 8th start already today and the Hannon’s are sending him all over Europe and running the guts out of him. A good winner of the Woodcote, I am surprised to see him still sitting at 33/1 for the 2000 Guineas. That ship sailed long ago and at this rate he will have run a dozen times at least by season’s end.
Obviously delighted with Threading today, I doubt it was a good Lowther and I would need to see her at 7F next time regarding the Guineas. She’s lean and lanky at the minute and needs to fill out. Happy Like A Fool was a different unit altogether and despite the slipping saddle, her tank was emptying anyway, as several people felt it might.
I was shaking my head when Jason Weaver stated that Happy Like A Fool was one filly who would be suited by stepping up to six furlongs. Predictably, he rapidly back tracked after the race and opined that perhaps 5F would have been better. “No Keech Sherlock” said Inspector Rebus
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Point is Judge; before the race we don’t know who’s going to win. Had you been going to change your mind to Actress, thought better of it, kept with Threading and then Actress won… You’d feel just as bad.
With a saver winning still doesn’t feel great, but at least you don’t lose plenty of money when something you fancied strongly wins.
Value Is EverythingAugust 24, 2017 at 17:20 #1315317Yes you’re right Ginger. anyway I put myself off threading for the wrong reasons, it won’t happen again.
Totally agree there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with backing more than one runner although you don’t want to back too many as that plays into the bookmakers hands; you want to at least ensure you make a decent profit if you do get the winner.
four bets today and the only one who won was a jumps horse.
onto tomorrow where I like talaayeb in the 7 furlong race. Think she’s a very nice price at around 14-1. Even an earthquake won’t put me off backing this one
August 24, 2017 at 18:41 #1315340I backed ACTRESS and she finished lame!!
Having backed threading at Goodwood I maybe should have stuck with her but the Johnston factor completely put me off!!

Get in. Didn’t change my mind this time
August 25, 2017 at 15:09 #1315567Well done, Judge…some game this, eh?
August 25, 2017 at 15:15 #1315568Some game mate. One day you’re down in the dumps, feeling like life can’t get any worse, then the next day you’re riding the surf of a wave feeling like you’re unbeatable.
that’s gambling for you.
