may he have a long and happy retirement, what a great horse he was for his connections
vf
November 29, 2011 at 14:17 #380170A brave horse who owes his connections nothing.
He has looked as though he was falling out of love with the game in his last few runs and it is no surprised he has been retired – may he have a long retirement.
One of my favourite horses.
November 29, 2011 at 17:14 #380189Horses like him have no future under the new whip rules. A superb horse, he gave a lot to the sport. His victory at Fontwell unforgettable. Long and happy retirement Lough Derg, well deserved.
November 29, 2011 at 17:18 #380192Agreed, agreed, agreed
Lovely moment when he made Tom cry… (was that the Fontwell race?)
November 29, 2011 at 17:30 #380194Sad to see the old boy go, but definitely the correct decision – its two and a half years since he last won, and I think that he had had enough.
Lets hope that he has a long, happy and healthy retirement – he deserves it.November 29, 2011 at 17:57 #380198I wonder if they’ll still put him in the horsebox on Saturdays so’s he can still pretend to be going racing. Can’t imagine him without his red blinkers; like a state of undress.
November 29, 2011 at 18:38 #380204If memory serves me right Moe , many moons ago Fred Winter had an old stalwart in Sonny Somers who just didnt want to retire and he used to get loaded in the box to humour him that he was going racing
November 29, 2011 at 19:13 #380211One of those horses who always added an extra element, a real star. Pleased they made the decision, wouldn’t want to see him tailed off like that again.
Hope he has a happy retirement
November 29, 2011 at 20:08 #380217lovely to see such a fab horse retired safe and sound
November 29, 2011 at 20:16 #380218Sad that Douglas won’t be racing anymore, but probably the right decision.
November 29, 2011 at 21:24 #380229Lough Derg was a lazy xxx who needed plenty of driving. Could have a hissy fit at half way before finishing with gusto.
Happy retirement LD
Value Is EverythingNovember 29, 2011 at 21:52 #380233Great to see this horse retired fit and well. May he enjoy his retirement. Just thinking of the races when he looked beat halfway through and then in the last furlong seeing him edging closer and hearing the commentator and the crowd cheering him on still gives me goose pimples.
November 29, 2011 at 22:05 #380238Long and happy retirement to him.
November 30, 2011 at 09:01 #380278He also ‘donated’ £10k to the Injured Jockeys Fund. Top horse

December 1, 2011 at 06:28 #380422I’ll add my good wishes too. One of those horses that makes jump racing what it is. I’m so pleased he’s been retired in good health. He owes us nothing.
December 2, 2011 at 01:36 #380601"Victim of the new whip rules"?
Oh please!

By god, he’s earned it.
